Lovely stay, great location and very close to amenities.

Cottage is lovely, the bed so comfortable and big. Everything you need. The owner left out extra towels and bedding as we stayed for three weeks. Thank you

Tidy comfortable cottage.

Only slight fault was weak shower pressure. Otherwise excellent.

If booking with pets, be aware that pets aren't allowed in the master bedroom - wasn't a problem for me, but not clear from the listing (it's mentioned in the property booklet when you arrive).

Absolutely lovely property - clean, spacious, and well equipped. The picnic bench shown in the listing wasn't there, but there were chairs in the garage to use. Nice firm bed and ludicrously warm goose down duvet let me have the heating off and windows open and still be too warm in November! Everybody I met out and about here was friendly, and there are many interesting places to visit. Ham radio folks: S2-S3 noise 40-10m, other than OTHR.

comfortable cottage in quiet cul de sac. Very good location, within easy walking distance of shops, tearooms and pubs. Easy drive to Hexham and the various the Hadrian's Wall sites, including Vindolanda. Hexham station has easy parking and a direct train to both the Metro Centre and central Newcastle

A peaceful, comfortable cottage in a quiet setting.

This was our second visit to Buttercup Cottage. The bungalow is spotlessly clean and the beds are the most comfortable we've had in a cottage. We had a relaxing week. The shops and cafes/pubs are only a couple of minutes away and the people are very friendly.

An ideal place to stay for visiting Northumberland.

This is a lovely bungalow in a lovely setting.

The bed was comfy and everything was clean. A small welcome pack was a nice touch. A bit overpriced in my opinion and unfortunately a late check in time after 5pm.

Lovely cottage , good position , easy to get in/out of town .

Be careful parking though at property but easier to park just over road in parking spaces . Great village for facilities , try the TEA ROOM next to Emma’s in the square … great food and portions…belly buster breakfast is one big challenge !! Both pubs excellent customer service and draught beer ( hawkstone on draught!) we were so lucky that the MORRIS DANCERS turned up one evening for an hour’s excellent entertainment..wow…sold some beer that night ! ( ask at LION if they are coming at all ) Overall a very good place to stay and close to many excellent hamlets/villages with good walking

A relaxing stay in this cottage in a quiet location.

The cottage was very comfortable and was spotlessly clean. We had everything we needed here even the weather was good. The shop and cafes were nearby so that was a bonus. We are coming back in September and can't wait!

Wonderful stay at Buttercup cottage.

Bed especially comfortable and the cottage was a real home from home. Everything you could possibly need was provided. Owners very helpful. Seeing deer in field from garden was highlight for me. People in village so friendly and also dog friendly. We hope to return.

Very nice comfortable cottage close to the centre of Allendale enjoying a pleasant view from the back over a field, having stayed in this cottage before, the new larger TV is a welcome addition and completes the requirements as this was the one comment renters made before.

We love the area and go once or twice a year to enjoy the queit rods, charming scenery, lovely small towns and of course Hadrians wall, I can recomend the Allendale tea rooms small cafe in the centre, their breakfast is a proper full English, with fried bread on offer too. Hexham and Corbidge are well worth visiting and eating at The Sill is highly recomended, the drive from Hexham to Blanchland is spectacular and the White Monk refectory tea room has a choice of 20 differnt cakes, but in my opinion, their home made pies are the real winners, corned beef for those who can enjoy it and Christmas pie for those needing a nostalgic meal, this pie has turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets and carrot swede mash, with roasts and sprouts on the side, what more could you ask for.

Great base for visiting surrounding attractions. The cottage was so homely, well equipped, clean, you could want for nothing more. Only a short distance to local amenities/pubs. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family.

A lovely liight, airy bungalow in a secluded corner of a quiet cul-de-sac.

We're not dog owners so were grateful that the place had been thoroughly cleaned leaving no trace of four-legged visitors. Moving the comfy chair from the bedroom to behind the sofa provided an ideal spot to sit and read while watching the birds in the small garden. My only gripe was that getting out of the shower, which is over the bath, there is an unexpected drop of about 8" to the floor so care is needed.

Although we didn't need any heating we did not know how to turn it off when it started up obviously on presettings.

Cottage was clean and the facilities were good also

The cottage is on an estate of small retrirement bungalows, but once you are inside, or in the back garden, you are presented with a view of the garden, then a low dry stone wall into a field making the aspect open an light, you would not know you are on an estate, the area is quite dark on a night so stargazing is good from the garden, the cottage is clean and warm and comfortable and everything works, a bigger TV would be nice and unusually you are not given a key for the front door?

This means all your kuggage has to be squeezed past the car, through an outward opening gate that risks denting the car, down some steps and into the back door through the kitchen, when it should have been simply out of the boot, through the front door. We have stayed at Buttercup cottage before and thought that the front door would have been fixed by now.

Beautiful place to stay, just an observation things like, plate on front door lock hanging off, decking needs a step, most plates in cupboard have chips, was not happy with 5oclock arrival time as we had traveled a very long way to get there, but all in all we enjoyed our weeks stay.

the property is not detached as in your details but is a semi detached.

still just as peaceful as no noise came from next door. very safe dog friendly garden. very clean property inside and outside. shops within a very short distance from the bungalow. many places to visit but mostly long distance ,the bungalow is larger than it looks on your site. shared drive but was no problem at all. slight downside. patio doors hit and miss to try to lock it. cistern over toilet needs a strong push to flush toilet. i you press it too soft the water will continue down the toilet. all in all a great bungalow in a very quiet cul-de-sac. loved it

The welcome tray was very much appreciated after a long journey. Our dog appreciated the safe garden for him to play in.

Nice clean small bungalow in a group of similar properties, great location for exploring Hadrians wall, south and west Northumberland, north pennines etc.

I recomend the breakfast at both the cafe/arts centre in Allendale and at the Sill. Property could do with a little maintenance, the front door lock is damaged so all access is via the side door which is difficult when your car is parked as recomended. The toilet fails to flush properly and has a broken lid. The TV is far too small for comfortable viewing.

Cottage was as described with everything you would need. Great for our cockapoo with the enclosed garden. There are lovely walks from the cottage. The information book was helpful. I would highly recommend.

Very neat and tidy cottage - had all we needed for the week.

Location was ideal for local amenities and our adventures to the Roman - the weather was kind; all be it a chilly wind - we didn't really expect anything less in mid-October.

There was supposed to be a washer/dryer - there was only an old washing machine.

The cottage was clean but a lot of maintenance was needed.

Sykes cottages were helpful and answered any queries we had before going. Our hosts were only a phone call away if we had any problems whilst there which was very reassuring. The cottage was lovely and clean, very homely and everything required for a relaxing holiday. Thank you very much to all concerned we will hopefully be returning next year.

This is an excellent holiday property with a nice garden, especially for a dog, in the lovely village of Allendale.

All local facilities are available in less than 10 `minutes walk, except petrol/diesel.

Only complaint was that when I made the booking the description on the site said it was a detached property when it was a semi detached property this was what first attracted me to the property

Lovely little cottage in a very peaceful location.

We loved seeing the sheep in the adjoining field every day. The garden is neat and secure for dogs with an attractive seating area. Allendale has surprisingly ample shops and hostelries for such a small village.

Peaceful, clean, warm and very comfortable.

The welcome pack was unexpected and a nice touch. Perfect for walks with our small dog, from the front door. Sheep in the field next to the cottage was nice to wake up to.

Fabulous property in an ideal location.

Maintained to a high standard with comfortable furnishing, all essential equipment and effective heating. Lovely little private garden with a pleasant outlook. Allendale has all facilities required to meet day to day needs. The added bonus being a very friendly community.

The property is in a good condition the garden is well maintained, we actually stood in the garden and watched deer in the adjacent field, the location is excellent should you be the walking type, we don’t walk as a pastime but enjoyed what we did take on we wanted the peace and quiet and this property was exactly that, we really enjoyed our stay at buttercup cottage.

A welcome pack was greatly appreciated. Lots of fantastic scenery and places to visit within easy reach. We would be more than happy to return.

Good Points were fantastic welcome pack which included the children; enclosed garden; good garage with washing machine etc; hot water great; good bath towels.

Bad points were dirty kitchen cupboards, smeared glasses; some kitchen equipment needed replacing as been over used; needs an extra big saucepan, not 100% cotton linen; better all round quality of furnishings; recycling and general waste bins full of other people’s rubbish. As a Sykes property owner myself I would have seen to all these bad points.

Very comfortable beds & sofa and very clean. Lots of nice additions (deck chairs, clothes line + pegs etc). Only downside was lack of cooking equipment.

Used this cottage as a base for a cycling holiday, the garage was very handy to keep the bike in.

It has everything you need and is in a lovely quiet spot just on the edge of the main town. Wifi was excellent, would be good for dogs as the rear garden is nice and secure. Regularly saw Red Deer in the buttercup meadow. Beautiful part of Northumberland with County Durham and East Cumbria on the doorstep. Reasonable price for a two bedrooms bungalow. Highly recommend.

I was most impressed with this cottage, lovely and quiet, well thought out and had everything you need.

I used it as a base for a cycling holiday and the large garage/bike store was ideal. The wifi was excellent. I am considering re-booking for next year which says it all. Northumberland is a beautiful county, I loved Kielder forest park, great escape from city life.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Buttercup Cottage.

The cottage was comfortable, peaceful and immaculate. The location is perfect being a short walk from all of the amenities in the centre of Allendale. The well stocked Co-op is excellent for food provisions. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property, 5 stars.

Allendale is the furthest west we have stayed over many holidays in Northumberland.

The cottage is in a quiet location on the edge of the village, which has a Coop shop, pubs and a gallery/coffee shop. The cottage is really comfortable with all the usual facilities. If you’re lucky, you’ll even see the deer in the adjacent field!

This was a very comfortable, very clean and well equipped cottage which we really enjoyed staying in.

The location was convenient for visiting Scotland, tha lake district and County Durham as well as Northumberland.

The cottage was quiet and private even though it was near the centre of Allendale. The cottage provides all you need for a relaxing holiday.

This is a great cottage, full of everything you would need for making your holiday home very comfortable, plus lots of little extras that you wouldn't normally expect.

The location is fantastic, within walking distance to Allendale, but not to close to be intrusive, great little shops and cafes, plus 3 pubs. This was all in all a fantastic holiday home and location, beautiful countryside and very friendly people.

The cottage was just as described: well equipped, clean and comfortable.

Minor improvements could be made as follows: Provide one or two small tables in the lounge to put cups on. A grab rail in the shower area would have helped us old'uns getting in and out the bath. A garden chair or two would have been welcomed. Otherwise a very nice stay here.

The cottage was beautifully furnished.

Everything was perfect including the location. There was attention to detail and extras. It felt like home from home.

It was such a quiet place to stay and we loved it.

Lovely to come back to and rest after being out during the day. Loved the patio doors to watch the birds in the garden, we must be an exception as others before us seemed to all have dogs. Still, we could not smell dog so well done to the owners for keeping such a clean place.

Buttercup cottage exceeded expectations by some way, a beautiful; furnished cottage with every amenity , we've stayed in quite a few holiday cottages but this was far the best .

we had a problem with the Wi-Fi, our fault not there's but the owners sister came round and sorted it the next day, for which we were very grateful. all in all a lovely place to stay, I hope to go back in the near future.

Buttercup cottage is situated in a quiet cul de sac but only just a short distant from local amenities including three pubs which all are dog friendly and serve meals at varying times.

What the description doesn’t make clear is that there is a shower over the bath. (I enquired on Live Chat before booking and told there wasn’t so it was a pleasant surprise.) It is well equipped, although at the moment I would say four adults would be a bit squashed on the three seater settee and chair. The owners are putting a lot into making the cottage comfortable and welcome feedback and I was informed that they are addressing that issue. It is very clean and furniture and furnishings are of a very high standard. Would definitely recommend.
