  • "This is our 7th/8th time staying at Chapel Hill as it has everything we want and is in a perfect location."

Still has the comfiest beds around! There have been other reviews which have mentioned the students, we did not hear them at all apart from coming and going, no bother. The cottage is well-equipped and has most things needed - beware the cooker and grill take a while to warm up but I think that is power in The Lakes in general! No gripes at all and have booked again for next year. If anything, it could probably do with a touch up and slight upgrade of TV equipment and the bin lid in the kitchen has been broken or missing since we started staying there over 8 years ago! But I a being pedantic. Can't wait to come back.

  • "We have stayed at this property many times previously and have already booked again for March next year."

We always enjoy staying here but can we suggest that the Chimney is swept ASAP as there is a very strong acrid overpowering smell emitting from it? PS: We did not use the stove during our visit this time. A new gas boiler has recently been installed in the property which is a welcome improvement. One thing we would recommend is updating the lounge TV to a newer model with a High Definition picture as this would be a welcome improvement.

The owners have clearly undertaken a lot of improvements since last year, including a new thermostat, and new domestic appliances, as well as repainting. The cottage looks and feels much better for it. Now, if they could persuade the students next door to be quiet between 1 and 6 am ....!

Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed the property and the recent grades to décor and amenities. We hope to welcome you back again. Lakelovers Owner Team Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Everything supplied for a self catering base. Our only problem is the parking spot at the property. Being parked on gravel downward we were unable to get our car off as the wheels were spinning on the gravel. Think this as happened to previous guests as a plank of wood is available on the patio to help to get off the spot. Not ideal, should really be tarmac.

  • "A really lovely cottage, close to all of the shops, restaurants and cafes in Ambleside."

It had everything we needed for a 4 day stay with a really comfortable bed in the main bedroom as well as being spotlessly clean throughout. The only downsides, as mentioned by other guests, were the size of the courtyard which was much smaller than anticipated and a damp smell throughout the cottage which we got used to and didn't marr our enjoyment of the stay. All in all a well maintained cottage which we would have no hesitation in booking again.

The only improvement we would suggest is to put up curtains in the bedrooms as the blinds are not sufficient to keep out the light resulting in us waking up earlier than we would like.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at chapel hill."

3 adults and 2 children. Perfect location a couple of minutes walk into Ambleside and great for travelling to nearby villages etc. The cottage had nearly everything we needed. The listing says room for a small car however we comfortably parked our Range Rover in the parking space by the house. There is also parking at the top of the hill that is free. The beds were comfortable and the rooms and bathroom were clean. A few points to note, there can be noise from people leaving the pub nearby but it didn’t bother us. The house is dog friendly and The outside door mat had dog wee on it that in the sun really smelt but we moved it and washed the paving. The house is damp so it is disguised by air freshener plug ins that are really over powering. We just turned them off for our stay and didn’t notice a smell. So I don’t feel they are needed. We would return for sure

  • "We have stayed at Chapel Hill 3 times before."

The cottage kept us warm and cosy during a very cold (but very sunny) week, and there was ample room for 4 adults and our outdoor gear. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. However, the cottage was less clean than expected when we arrived (dusty surfaces, hairs on the floors of both showers, and more hairs and dirt under the kitchen table). We cleaned this up ourselves and reported it to Heart of the Lakes, who offered to send out a cleaner (which we no longer needed). At the end of the week, the microwave stopped working and the kettle socket began to work erratically - both these faults we reported when we handed back the key. Hopefully these problems have been fixed. The cottage seems to be generally well maintained and cared for, so I hope that the problems that we experienced are just a blip. We would certainly stay there again.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of the cleanliness issues that you found upon your arrival. We will ensure that our high standards continue to be met. The issue with the microwave and kettle appear to be working fine now as no further issues have been reported. We look forward to welcoming you back again. Property Owner

The property was warm, spacious and very comfortable for our family of four and our dog. I was really impressed with the kitchen, which was really well furnished with all the pots, pans, ovenware and utensils that you might need to cook up a Christmas dinner. The location is perfect, close to the heart of Ambleside, and easy to walk straight out into the hills. We had a really special Christmas in Ambleside and would love to return in better weather!

The cottage was ideal for us the bedrooms were a great size a bathroom upstairs and an en suite in the master bedroom. The living room was a good size and the television came with an app which enabled us to log in to Netflix and Disney plus etc ideal for the kids on an evening. The kitchen again a good size with a dining table for 6, a big fridge freezer dishwasher, washing machine, plenty of plates, cups, glasses and almost every kitchen utensils you can think of which was great. Only negatives were the downstairs cupboard had a bit of a damp smell, one night (Sunday) the neighbours were a bit loud I'm assuming this was the students from accommodations close by and the parking space located at the property was very tight more suitable for a smaller car. we didn’t park there. The cottage was is in a superb location and its only a few mins walk if that into Ambleside. I would definitely consider using this cottage again and visiting Ambleside.

Unfortunately, the neighbours,as other have described, are loud. On our first night they were partying until 4am! I do not feel that as a result that the property can be described as quiet. It is such a shame because it really detracts from such a lovely property.

There was ample room for 4 adults, though the good weather didn't test its ability to cope with lots of wet gear! Parking for 2 cars was fine (but including a picture of it on the website would be helpful for people with bigger cars). The only issue was that the students next door were talking quite loudly on our patio at 2am one night - a real disturbance for those in the en-suite room. The students were otherwise well behaved, but guests to this cottage certainly cannot guarantee peace and quiet anymore.

The location is ideal, close to town and on the doorstep to incredible walking. The property itself is furnished to a very high standard and felt like a home from home. Having read previous customer feedback we were a little concerned about noise from connecting property and the parking, we chose this property because we like to park close by. We didn't hear anything at all from the connecting property and parked our T5 camper on the drive with no problems at all. Incredible 5 * property. Would we stay here again, absolutely. In the past we have always been very pleased with all the properties we have stayed in, standard of cleanliness was always excellent, facilities were good and information provided was accurate. On our last visit the general standard of cleanliness wasn’t good, there were problems with the central heating and the lock on the main entrance to the property wasn’t working. When we have visited this property in December in the past there were always Christmas decorations, although this is not a necessity it was disappointing that there weren’t any this time.

We would like to thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you found the property was not cleaned up to our usual standard. We will be passing your comments on to our housekeeping manager to investigate. Meanwhile, the owner has attended the property to do a deep clean and to make sure the lock has been fixed. We apologise that the property did not get decorated in time for your arrival, Chapel Hill Cottage is now decorated for Christmas. We thank you again and we hope to welcome you back in the future! Outside relaxing space is a little limited, but that is offset by the fantastic location, just a 2 minute walk from the centre of Ambleside. Having read reviews about the poor parking space I would have to disagree; I have a family sized estate and was able to get in and out of the space without a problem, while leaving sufficient space to get past the car and into the property. Again, noisy neighbours were mentioned in some previous reviews; I would disagree and say that the neighbours were a little loud on the Saturday night, but it was a Saturday and we only heard them on 1 night out of 7. They weren't rude or offensive and didn't intrude on our stay. If you are in the back of the cottage you would be unlikely to even hear them. Overall a great cottage and we would return again.

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Cleaning of the cottage before we arrived seemed to have been rushed, crumbs and dust etc under sofas and cleaning products left out on fireplace in living room. Massive downside to this property is the fact that it joins quite a large property with multiple occupants around student age… although very friendly there was zero consideration or respect when it came to keeping the noise to a minimum. Incredibly noisy at night and into the early hours giving us disturbed sleep most nights. Also dogs in the adjoining property that use chapel hill cottages driveway as a toilet. Definite fire hazards in the adjoining property with plastic carrier bags being placed over lights as dimmers. Very much enjoyed our holiday and love Ambleside but incredibly let down by the lack of good quality sleep in the cottage.

Thank you for taking the time to provide additional feedback following your stay at Chapel Hill Cottage. We are delighted you enjoyed the close proximity to the local amenities and attractions. On behalf of Heart of the Lakes we would like to apologise for the standard of cleanliness. We have spoken with the housekeeping manager of Heart of the Lakes who service the cottage on our behalf and they have assured us measures will be put into place and attention to detail will be improved upon for the benefit of future guests. We can only apologise if any disturbance was caused by the neighbouring property. We have owned the cottage for 3 years and have not experienced disturbances of this nature until very recently. We have spoken with the landlord of the neighbouring property and informed them this feedback, the tenants have been made aware and we would hope further noise disturbances will not occur. We do hope that despite these issues you had an enjoyable time in the Lakes as we hope to welcome you back in the near future. Property Owner

  • "If one of your requirements is guaranteed parking I would not book this cottage."

Although the cottage has a parking space it is also an access for the adjoining property and therefore is not big enough for a medium sized car and access. In addition as the space is in-between two cottages it is impossible to pull out of the space if there are any cars parked close by as the road is narrow and therefore no room to swing round the parked vehicles. While the description on the listing appears factually correct it is misleading regarding the usability of the space and any available parking on the road outside which is on a first come first served basis. I would suggest the owners provide clearer information on the listing in the first instance and perhaps apply to the council to have a white line across the access to prevent vehicles parking too close. Alternatively they could invest in a permit for the car park.

However the off street parking was completely inaccessible and there wasn’t any local parking near the cottage. As parking was a key factor in choosing accommodation, this was very disappointing. After a 6hr drive, arriving at your accommodation which you had selected for off street parking to find that you could not access was a real sour note. To have the same experience when trying to vacate the property took the shine off what would have otherwise been a lovely holiday. On the parking, even if there had not been rubbish bins and rubbish bags blocking the entrance or other cars parked up to the entrance thereby removing any chance of turning into the space, the space is so small that only a small town car could access not a large family car. Please remove from your website any reference to off street parking
