““We arrived at your very beautiful cottage - the sort of place you walk into and smile!”

    - Mr Holway, Dec 2019

This property is part of the Heart Of The Lakes collection.
We are a Local Lake District business offering a wide range of Lake District cottages, apartments and houses; some old, some modern and something for every taste, but ALL within the National Park and therefore in the heart of one of Britain's loveliest corners.

The property

Fern Cottage, located in the heart of the Lake District, offers a number of fabulous walks and amenities on the doorstep making this the ideal home-from-home.

This terraced cottage offers spacious and affordable accommodation for a family and their dog who want to recharge their batteries in the Lakes at any time of year.

As soon as you step inside you will feel the warmth of this welcoming cottage which has a sitting room to relax in after a day of exploring.

Relish a challenge of cooking for the group using the gas oven and hob, set within the sleek kitchen with tiled flooring, and let the pots simmer away as you sip on a glass of wine perched on the work surface.

As the evening draws to a close, discover the two neutrally decorated bedrooms, including a double room at the rear with lovely fell views and a twin to the front which is ideal for children.

Outside is a patio area with garden furniture where you can sit back and relax amidst the picturesque fell surroundings.

With a number of walks from the door, Fern Cottage is an ideal choice for any outdoor enthusiast – you can walk to the summit to begin a trek up Red Screes or explore the Fairfield Horseshoe for some fine views looking over much of the Lakeland.

Ambleside is the perfect location for a Lake District break – not only is central to the Lakes, it offers an array of boutique shops, traditional inns, restaurants, three cinemas as well as mini golf, tennis courts and a bowling green.

Take a walk to Waterhead Pier and catch one of the famous steamers to Bowness or take a scenic drive over the picturesque Kirkstone Pass to romantic Ullswater and Wordsworth Country around Keswick and Grasmere.

For those seeking greater outdoor activity, Grizedale Forest is well worth checking out, with a variety of mountain biking trails, off-road Segway adventures, horse riding and Go Ape Tree Top challenges on offer.

Fern Cottage is a lovely, well-furnished cottage from which you can explore the Lake District National Park, all-year-round.

About the location

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
