  • "When we arrived at the property the curtains in one of the twin rooms were on the bed."

This must have already been reported as maintenance had turned up to fix them. However he was unable to do this and said he would return in Tuesday he never did. The floor on the kitchen was dirty by the step leading down into the kitchen hadn’t been brushed or washed properly. The living room hadn’t been hoovered properly I found toe nails on the floor. The parking permit had expired which I had reported. This was such an inconvenience as we had to continuously move the car. We had left the car parked outside the property overnight and received a parking ticket which we paid £25. I raised it with yourselves had made 3 phone calls also sent a copy of the ticket to yourselves. I am still waiting for a refund nearly 4 weeks on. I was told you are trying to get hold of the owner and would forward the ticket which is absolutely no use to me, my contract is with yourselves not the owner. I would be grateful if you could please forward the refund.

It is an overall a comfortable property and the beds are very comfortable. The bathrooms are all in good shape & some nice design features. The halls / stairs /landing & doors need renovation, rather tatty No welcome pack and surprisingly no hand soap in the kitchen or bathrooms on arrival which isn’t acceptable. You are overlooked and so privacy blinds would help a lot The garden needed weeding & better garden furniture would be good Microwave needs updating

A little shabby in places. Worst was a drain smell, especially in master bedroom. Very disappointing response from Sykes Cottages in response. Previously booked through them and customer service waa fantastic. I can only imagine they've been bought out by Lake Lovers. I won't use them again. Communication terrible.

.. There was no property info, how to use or operate information, no emergency help numbers, no info if things got broken or damaged etc. The kitchen utensils were not complete, saucepans had no small or medium. Fridge door doesn't close properly at times. The main big bin outside was full to the top on our arrival and we couldn't establish when due to be collected, when we added our first bag the birds came and broke into it. The visitor book (Feb) also noted our comments.... No changes then... Overall whilst location is good the property experience we felt is below our usual experience. Sorry for lengthy feedback... But trust this will enable you to improve our expectations and experience next time.... Thank you...

Very quiet! Comfortable home for all the family. Family games provided. TV remote didn’t work, no DVD player, thankfully our son had brought his Xbox so used that for entertainment. Garden could be looked after better. Bins were full on arrival and no information regarding bins/ recycling. Hand soap in the master en-suite but none in the other 3 bathrooms so had to purchase it. The unexpected good weather made the holiday.

Beds were comfortable and bathroom facilities were good and clean. Kitchen was functional. Down sides were the dirty carpets on the stairs, a bit of a musty whiff when we first entered, woodlice everywhere and the need for plumper pillows. Getting the keys to the cottage was a little challenging and shame there is only a parking permit allowed for one car directly outside the property when the house is big enough for 2 families.

I base it on “would I live here “ “ yes I would 100%” I expected it to be top drawer but it went further than that. Every bedroom was very well appointed with comfortable beds and bedding & towels, plenty of storage space too. Two rooms have gorgeous en-suite while the two twin rooms are a few steps away from their own personal bathrooms. Again, very well appointed. Downstairs didn’t disappoint with plenty of comfy sofas and chairs plus a large dining table that easily can fit up to 8 people. The kitchen was well stocked for what we needed plus a little court yard which was a fab place for out little dog to have a quick run around. Heathley house is also right in the centre of Ambleside with an abundant of cafes, bars & restaurants along with lots of boutique shops. The use of permits for our cars made it perfect for us. I would highly recommend a stay here.

The cental location was ideal and parking was very straight forward. The only minor issue we had was that there was no recycling box/bag at the property and the information folder did not have any instructions about what to do with the rubbish/recycling. The information folder also didn't include the WiFi code. I guess it may have been removed or misplaced at some point.

We really enjoyed our stay! A couple of things that did take away slightly from the experience was the lack of firewood, which was a bit of anticlimax on arrival on the Friday evening. Hand wash/soap in the bathrooms would also have been helpful. Otherwise, it was a great stay and very well situated in the town. Thanks!

It is a great place for our family of 6, plus dog. Fabulous location in the centre of town. We did notice a smell of drains in the lower en-suite double bedroom this time, which was quite strong at times so we had to keep the window open for most of our stay. We also noticed it wasn’t as clean as it was previously. There were hairs on the bedding and the floors in the bathrooms weren’t clean. The house however is well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. We did have to buy a frying pan as the ones in the house were well used and everything stuck/ burnt to the pans, so these could do with replacing.. It would also be useful for another set of keys, as only one set between 8 people and no key safe proved tricky at times. Having said all this, it’s a great house and good value for money. We would definitely stay again.

It is the second time we have stayed at Heatherly. The first time we had to clean the bathrooms as they were not clean and did not feed this back thinking it was a one off. However on our last visit there was the same issue. Toilet brush with excrement all over it, the rim of two toilets had dried faeces on. The headboards in the 1st floor twin room were dusty. The lounge carpet had not been hoovered under the chairs. Also the towel rail on the fist floor bathroom was not working. The bath plug on the 2nd floor did not seal.

  • "To be honest I was disappointed."

I was so excited, the building is beautiful. Really looking forgot building some memories with my newborn and daughter and my parents. ( my mum has dementia so we are making the most of what is left) It is well furnished. Plenty of space and bathrooms. On closer inspection. Not clean. It had been cleaned but not in to the corners. For example there was still crumbs under the table. I though no big deal. And cleaned up, I did not clean the windows or all the cobwebs or the mildew on the tiles. That you need to check. Also it would be good for the cleaned to move the equipment in the kitchen as the was food under the microwave. On the Monday someone came in to fix the loo on the fist floor I also sent him to the top floor to fix the temp tap in the shower. When I turned the shower on. The temp tap fell off and landed on my toe braking the nail . Not the best for a walking holiday. For you next guests please give them mor than one wooden spoon to cook with. And if the house is advertised for 8 ther should be 8 of everything like glasses please. After mum was finding the holiday hard and with not a lot of sleep with my 3 week old baby I did not have it in me to ask for these things to be fixed while I was there ….. oh and there is a horrible smell of poo in both en suite bathrooms even after I had really cleaned them. And the copious amounts of oust made me think you Already know about that. Not good.

Good accommodation and lots of space for the whole family. In comparison to previous visits the property was lacking in cleanliness. The bathroom sink has toothpaste stains, dining room table still dirty, window sills also very dusty, other place only superficially cleaned ie a quick wipe round. The property is a credit to the owners. It’s in a prime position, just a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside. The photos do not do this house justice, as we found it to be very clean, spacious and extremely well equipped with good quality furnishings and 4 excellent bedrooms and bathrooms, which suited our family of 6 perfectly. The kitchen had every utensil you needed for a very comfortable week long stay, with plenty of pans, plates, cups and glasses etc. A utility room housed a washer and dryer which was perfect for washing our walking gear throughout the week. Each bedroom had a comfortable bed, large tv, led lit mirrors in the bathroom and plenty of storage. Having a bathroom to service each bedroom was a bonus we don’t usually find in a lot of holiday cottages. Two parking permits worked perfectly for us all, and we didn’t have any problems finding a space either outside or close to the property throughout our stay. We all agreed, Heatherley was one of the nicest places we have stayed in over the years, and we will certainly look to book again in the future.

It didn’t exceed expectations as the professional photos made it look amazing. There are stains on the fabric sofas and grouting needs replaced in bathrooms, so the property is showing it’s age. There wasn’t any basics left for us (tea/coffee/sugar/egg cups), we own our own holiday let and provide a welcome pack with eggs, milk, buter, biscuits, bread, wine, local newspaper, tea & coffee pods. We also provide a dog bowl, treats, dog bed and toys for when customers bring their dog - none of which was provided (especially when we had to pay to bring our dog) as we allow dogs free of charge). Heatherley was spacious enough for our family of 4 but compared to other properties such as “Skyfall” it was a little disappointing for the price of £1476 for a week. The parking pass for SLDC car parks was very handy when out and about in the area, although parking outside the property was somewhat difficult.

Firstly ill equipped kitchen to cook a proper meal for 6 people, fridge door still broken from when we stayed last year. The house was lovely and clean but the back yard was a disgrace full of weeds. Why only 1 key? Great location but I doubt we will be staying with heart of the lakes again due to the lack of personal service and never being able to get through on the phone to Sykes. Plus a 35% increase for the same week next year is a disgrace

Thank you for your feedback. Your feedback has been passed onto the owner who will take a look at the equipment in the kitchen and will also be attending to sort out the weeds on a changeover day. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
