  • "Fantastic place, very central and yet quiet."

We did many hiking and paddling trips and all no further than 30 mins from Ambleside. The house layout was perfect for two families. Highly recommend.

  • "Very convenient for Ambleside with helpful info about walks and places to eat etc."

Very good to have parking permit and extra permit for some local car parks. Heating worked well, we needed for couple of evenings. Very well stocked with sensible sized mugs, plates and cutlery. Surprised no dishwasher tablets left for us - or we did not find them. Great to have good size and screen quality TV plus DVD player and DVDs, had iPlayer but did not have eg ITVx. Main shower is very easy to use and worked well but small. All in all -super place to stay

Many thanks for the positive review! The small pack in the kitchen on arrival should have contained a few dishwasher tablets as well as other necessities, sorry if that was not the case. Property Owner

Millans Garth offers everything and more we could ask for immaculately clean, so well stocked and comfortable and in perfect location. We used as a base for days out on the buses and boats as is centrally located and offers great access to so many places. This is as well as the lovely Ambleside itself with fab eating, drinking and cinema options. Te great bright sunny weather helped too! Hoping not to have to wait another 2 years to return x

Many thanks! We look forward to welcoming you back again! Stephen Property Owner

It is very spacious and comfortable, and well equipped. We were just 2 people, but there would have been plenty space for more. We highly recommend Millan's Garth.

  • "One cannot fault the cleanliness, the closeness of the town center, the facilities on offer and the whole ambiance of the house and the area in and around Ambleside, but there are two health and safety warnings: (1) The step in the kitchen needs a white line to highlight it to prevent people tripping up on it (2) More importantly the faulty ring on the cooker needs repairing instantly."

It is an accident waiting to happen. There is a notice next to the cooker pointing out the faulty ring, but this has clearly been there for some time and as it is a front tring that is permanently on it is within reach of 'tiny hands' or distracted people and can therefore cause serious burns It is for this reason that I give them the lowest score for the last question

  • "A very good base for Ambleside."

The property is well maintained with just a couple of minor exceptions. The Slabs leading from the Back door would be a lot safer if they were cleaned with a power jet. As you know they are quite slippery after rainfall. The broken dial on the cooker urgently needs replacing. Even with the warning notice its a safety issue. Overall though, Its a fine property, and we may well revisit in the future.

  • "We had a great stay at Milan’s Garth, it more than lived up to expectations, being comfortable and maintained to a high standard."

We have already recommended this cottage to others & will be hoping to stay again. We enjoyed being able to leave our car, doing a few walks from the cottage. Ambleside also has a really good choice of restaurants, cafes and bakeries. We found Ambleside & Millans Garth to be an ideal central base for both walks and exploring other villages of note, so hope to stay again & highly recommend.

  • "What an amazing location."

So easy to walk into Ambleside to enjoy the lovely shops. We had no difficulty parking although went before the English school holidays. The property was easy to access ( permits in the house not at the Heart of the Lakes office as mentioned in emails so no need to rush before the office closes like we did) and very nice. Comfortable living room with great TV and lovely big dining room table. Kitchen excellent ( only thing that would have made it better was a pair of oven gloves). The bedrooms were lovely with good views. Service from Heart of the Lakes was also excellent. The shower leaked on our first day and flooded through the ceiling. We called and a plumber came out within hours and fixed the problem without us needing to be there. We would definitely love to return one day.

Our advice is to communicate with them and NOT Sykes Cottages if you book through them. For a start their customer service people (Sykes) communicate with a “no reply” email address and after no fewer than 19 to a fro telephone calls they failed to help us with a parking permit problem whereas Heart of the Lakes were super helpful.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
