  • "Brilliant location."

    Well equipped and homely.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

Our only criticisms are that the description suggests there is a garden but there is not. It is just a shared slabbed area at the front of the property which is not enclosed. Secondly on the day we arrived i received a message to say that there was scaffolding on the property but not to be alarmed as it would be removed on the Monday. Unfortunately it was not removed until the Friday and made the cottage seem very dark inside during our stay

  • "Property very comfortable with all the facilities listed."

We enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider booking again. The property would benefit from a lick of paint and a good clean. A description of the 'smart hub' feature on the tv should be included in the property description fixed to the kitchen wall and in the Lake Lovers folder.

  • "As previously mentioned not dog friendly at all gate needed."

Full refurbishment and deep clean needed. I pulled the drawers out in the bedroom to plug in MY HAIRDRYER and there was plaster and dust behind not just recent looks like months. There’s an inflatable dinghy or paddle board but not a simple thing like an hairdryer. WHY it has been mentioned in review’s many times . The drain in the shower cubicle needs cleaning out as it’s like a paddling pool also the wall behind the cooker needs cleaning thoroughly as it’s covered with cooking fat splashes not very hygienic. I would say get different cleaners in as they are not doing their job thoroughly. All skirting boards need cleaning I didn’t move the settees as I was afraid what I would find. All in all it was handy for the town and commuting when we actually found the cottage not too easy.

  • "Lovely location."

House needing a bit of TLC! Would be ideal if there was a closed gate between Holly Cottage to give a bit of privacy and separation, especially with dogs so you could sit outside .

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us at Yew Tree Cottage. Thank you for your suggestions regarding the gate. We will pass your thoughts on. The owner relations team - Heart Of The Lakes Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely property, and is well appointed throughout."

We really enjoyed our time there. The only details that need some improvement have been mentioned before by previous occupants, and we have experienced them on previous visits ourselves too. There is a damp issue in the main bedroom. This may be in part because that room never has sunlight on it(?), but something needs to be done, the smell is noticeable. The double bed needs replacing, and has needed replacing for a couple of years. Neither of us got a good nights sleep. The only other thing to point out is that water drains very slowly out of the shower. We were very happy with our stay there apart from the details outlined. Hopefully they will be resolved, and we'll be able to return in future.

  • "A lovely central location but the cottage is in need of updating and maintenance."

There is a serious damp problem in the double bedroom and en suite bathroom which needs addressing. Mould is growing up the walls in the bathroom and on the carpet in the corner of the bedroom. The bathroom blind was broken when we arrived and not replaced during our two week stay so it was very difficult trying to ventilate the bathroom. The walls were running with moisture after every shower in both rooms, hence the problem. The en suite shower didn’t drain well, even after being looked at to address initial serious over flow onto the bathroom floor. The kitchen could also do with some modernising and some thought given to how it is organised to allow space for food storage and some of the equipment could do with updating as some crockery is chipped. We still had an enjoyable holiday but won’t be booking this property again if it remains in its current condition. It’s condition isn’t reflected in the rental cost we paid for a two week stay.

  • "This is a nice cottage and in a very good location, but it suffers from damp and is in need of a deep clean particularly around radiators and skirting."

There is mould growing under the carpet in the double room and there is a definite musty smell throughout the cottage. When we arrived, the bedding and towels did not feel totally dry. Also, if you would like customers to keep the kitchen and bathrooms clean, perhaps supplying some cleaning products would be helpful.

  • "Yew Tree Cottage is a lovely cottage for families."

It is compact, but well appointed. Very close to Ambleside centre and parking for two cars. The cottage was nice and clean and had all the amenities that we needed. This is the second time we have stayed in Yew Tree and I am certain we will go back in the future. The HotL staff in the office are very kind and efficient. Thanks you for having us!

Both single beds were recently soiled with urine, luckily local HOTL changed both mattresses and bed linen before the next night. Hoover was full to overflowing, to such an extent that the hoover hose had become fully blocked too. There was no bag in the hoover either. Flat was not very well cleaned prior to our arrival, probably due to state of the hoover. Boiler broke down on Friday, so no hot water to wash, shower nor wash up with for 2 days. Again local HOTL staff tried but failed to remedy. Maintenance asked me, the guest, where the thermostat was! They were as surprised as me that there isn’t one. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
