  • "An absolutely stunning place."

We met our friends who drove down from Scotland and we drove up from London. The cottage had everything and more that you may need. The garden was lovely and our dog loved the freedom of going into the garden. It was very comfortable with more than enough space for us. The log fire was a perfect addition to the chilly evenings. We would definitely recommend Wdwn Corrage

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, which was our first Xmas away and it did not disappoint. Great location and all amenities close to hand. Pleasantly pleased to find a well equipped kitchen, but needs a Teapot

Hi Paul Thank you for your positive review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your Festive stay in our cottage. I note your useful suggestion regarding a teapot - we will endeavour to get one asap, and look forward to welcolming you again in the future. Andrew & Bernadette Property Owner

The cottage was decorated for Christmas and looked stunning. The area was dog friendly which was great. We are planning on returning to the cottage in the summer to take advantage of the beautiful summer house and garden.

  • "Would love to have seen a teapot!"

We’re British and need one!! Shower door on ensuite stiff, handle came off (looked like already repaired), reattached but for how long? Garden needs some TLC (thanks for apples!) but a super space for dog and we used summerhouse too, delightful. Access to lovely river walk through gate at bottom. Lounge, some of bulbs had gone and need replacing on arrival, housekeeping need to check. Room was quite dark but comfortable. Overall, great stay and location, shame no Visitors Book to write reviews and recommendations!

  • "Excellent, very well appointed period and character property."

High quality fixtures and fittings. Spotlessly clean. Luxury kitchen was amazing and so well equipped. We loved the little summer house and rabbits in the garden. Unfortunately the weather was atrocious most of the time and so we spent minimal time in the gorgeous garden. Just one observation, the grass was very long all during our stay but this could have been because of the constant rain even before we arrived. Would have looked much nicer with a trimmed lawn if this could have been arranged before we checked in. Very responsive host, we needed a clothes airer due to bad weather and this was sorted out very promptly and was much appreciated thank you. A welcome pack would have been a lovely touch as it was quite an expensive break and we've had this elsewhere when staying just for a long weekend. All in all a brilliant place to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday.

Great base to explore the Eden valley , but also northern lake district , we walked along lake Ullswater Saturday in the sun (great stuff ) , were already planning to book again , we had a great weekend thanks

  • "Loved the cottage - really well presented, so comfy and great garden and summer house."

There is a gap in the fence so the dog did get into the field next door but only the once. Loved Appleby and so close for all you needed. Found some great walks nearby and really felt we chilled and had a great time. Parking worked out great for us as well. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us.

  • "Fantastic cottage ,very clean ,modern kitchen with every kitchen utensil and appliance available, unfortunately there was no table to eat a meal, small individual fold away tables were available in lounge but we missed sitting around a table eating our meals ."

The kitchen was large enough to accommodate a table and chairs ,also a standard lamp or more lighting on the beams in main room would be great as reading was very difficult.

Thank you for your feedback and useful suggetsions. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. Regarding your comments about the need for a dining table, we understand and agree, and consequently have now bought a dining table & chairs for the cottage. We have also bought an additional lamp for the lounge to provide additional illumination for reading. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage and garden, mix of old and modern, comfortable beds, warm and welcoming."

A little unfortunate that after making use of all the kitchen facilities, to produce a 'culinary delight', we were disappointed to find the only place to eat inside, was sat on the settee with our meals on small, folding tables. A shuffle around of furnishings in either the living room or kitchen might afford sufficient space for a drop leaf dining table and at least a couple of chairs. All in all we had an enjoyable stay in beautiful surroundings.

Thank you for your review and the constructive comments regarding the need for a dining table.. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. We have now purchased a dining table & chairs Property Owner

About the location

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
