  • "What a wonderful place to stay in Southern Cumbria."

A little off the beaten track until you got to know those narrow roads, but what a peaceful and idyllic setting. The cottage was beautiful, characterful, clean, cosy, very spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, warm and very well equipped. We will certainly return to see the garden and surroundings in a different season and enjoy this lovely cottage again. If I had to ask for an improvement, it would be some proper size mugs!! Found ourselves drinking copious lots in those provided

  • "We hired the cottage for two couples and it was ideal."

Beds so comfortable, each couple had their own bathroom facilities ( one bedroom ensuite and the younger couple had a bedroom upstairs with their own bathroom) so essentially it took away any waiting for showers, etc. Lovely Cottage in beautiful area.

  • "Just returned from a break in Pheasant cottage near Cartmel in the South Lakes area of Cumbria."

The cottage is lovely and, on the whole, was very comfortable apart from the settee which was pretty uncomfortable after a while. Location is excellent for a bit of exploring, we went to Grange over Sands which is an unexpected gem of a place and Ulverston, the birthplace on Stan Laurel. We`d have went further if only we had booked for longer but had a very nice break to recharge the batteries nevertheless. We have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone.

The owners were extremely welcoming and their cottage was lovely, with a beautiful garden and amazing views which we did not expect. The only suggestion I could make to improve the comfort would be to change the sofa, otherwise all excellent, thank you.

Very quiet and extremely comfortable. Cottage was well located with a beautiful and well kept garden and lovely rural outlook. Absolutely tranquil with no passing traffic. Weather was good with two exceptional days - sunshine throughout these days. Spent a stunning day at Tarn Howes - NT with guided walk at 11.00am on Wednesdays. Followed by a visit (and lunch) at Brantwood - home of John Ruskin - overlooking Lake Coniston.

  • "Such a delightful Cottage very well equipped and lots of extras not expected when hiring accommodation, comfortable beds lovely bathrooms with underfloor heating in the downstairs en-suite."

our only reason we have not given a full 10 in recommendation is the very uncomfortable settee and chairs ,this did really spoil our stay, the nights being darker earlier and the very narrow roads we spent our evenings in the cottage.such a pity this let the cottage down.

  • "This is our first time with Sykes and the booking through to the payment system and directions to the cottage was a seemless operation."

The cottage is located just out of Cartmell so not only is it within a two minute drive you can if you wish come out of your front door go through a farm gate and walk to the village. We were met on arrival by Pam and like everyone we met within the Lake District she had a big smile and was very helpful. The property is spotless both inside and outside . We would highly recommend a stay at pheasant cottage and this comment is reflected in the guest book. Well done Sykes we enjoyed our weeks holiday.
