  • "We had the best time, the location was perfect and the hosts friendly and helpful."

The cottage, although lovely, would benefit from some TLC, the kitchen and bathrooms were functional but a little tired, and small details that make all the difference were a little disappointing, and there was no usual essentials welcome basket, but the cosmetics etc in the bathrooms were lovely. All in all, a lovely week, but a few small changes would have made it exceptional.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Pheasant Cottage."

The bed was extremely comfortable and the toiletries were a nice luxury. It is a pleasant walk across the fields or down a quiet lane to Cartmel, approximately a mile and a half, where there are a number of pubs and cafes. We also did a lovely walk from the property taking in the views of the surrounding area. The gardens were lovely to relax in. We would definitely recommend Pheasant Cottage, the only suggestions for improvement would be upgrading the small and quite old TV set and perhaps a guest book for people to leave recommendations.

  • "The cottage was the best ever but the location had little to offer walkers."

0nly ourselves to blame should have taken notice of a previous review.

Perhaps we were remiss in not pointing out the maps available the multitude of walks from the door, two of which we regard as classics outside the high fell groups. It is a lovely 30-40 minute drive into the high fells. Property Owner

It was a flawless experience from start to finish. There's truly nothing to criticise. Our hosts were incredibly friendly, offered helpful suggestions for local hiking spots, and made us feel completely welcome and at home throughout our stay.

Thank you - we liked you too. I hope you'll come again sometime - it is nicer with sunshine, blue skies and flowers. Property Owner

Very tricky roads to and from its location. Walks not easy straight from the door. Good location quite central to most of south and west lakes. Lovely bedrooms very comfy beds. Could do with some larger tea cups!

Pheasant cottage was beautiful, beds were very comfy and the cottage was spotlessly clean. Our host were great, a lovely extra was the tasty loaf as a gift from them. The views we're breathtaking and waking up to such peace and quiet definitely helped us to unwind. Thanks again.

  • "The location was beautiful and such a pretty cottage, once we’d finished marvelling at this I was blown away by how practical it was."

The porchway was perfect for damp boots & coats and drying dog paws, so it kept the living quarters really clean. Very grateful for the bread, eggs, milk, and especially the cooking oil as this is messy to pack and wasteful to purchase. Great maps in the binder for guiding us to the village and delicious meals in the warm, friendly pubs there.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay , the location was perfect for us."

We walked into Cartmel most days and found some lovely places to have lunch. It was a cosy and comfortable place with everything we could want. We took advantage of the DVD collection for our evening entertainment and the maps for our walking adventures.

  • "We have just returned from a very relaxing stay at Pheasant Cottage."

The accommodation is clean and very comfortable with some lovely welcoming touches of fresh bread and milk, thank you. The grounds are beautiful to sit peacefully in and there are plenty of walks directly from the front door. Although the garden itself was shared with the attached property, there was a secure paddock very close by which we could exercise our dog safely in. Cartmel village is a short drive away (tiny roads but traffic is light) or a 25 minute walk across the fields and you can buy a range of delicious local produce from the shops. There are several coffee shops and pubs - something for everyone! It really is a superb location within easy driving distance to the Lakes too.

(She had also put fresh flowers out and left us bread and milk, a really nice touch). The cottage is furnished to a high standard and is in the most beautiful, peaceful location. The secure garden is gorgeous and secure for dogs, the views are stunning. Karen and Martyn were good sources of information on plants and wildlife. The walks were just what we wanted and it was nice to come back and relax in total comfort. There was absolutely nothing more that we could have asked for, it's a fabulous cottage, great location and we will look at booking again. John , Zoë and Pip the dog.

  • "This cottage is in a beautiful setting just outside Cartmel."

Lovely views and idyllic gardens, with a specific closed in field to allow your dog to have a run. It’s not for nervous drivers as has to be accessed via narrow lanes but is typical of the Lake District. Lots of places to visit nearby. Much thought has gone into comfort for guests. It’s cosy, but bright and airy and warm . The bedrooms are ample and beds very comfortable. Lovely duvets and pillows for a good nights sleep. Lots of thoughtful touches including freshly cut flowers , fresh local bread and milk and even skin care products, shampoo and conditioner so I came home feeling pampered. Although dog friendly the owners are clear dogs must be well behaved and I did feel hyper vigilant, and if it had been raining I would have wanted to ensure dogs were washed , but a dog shower is provided outside the main house. We had towels in the porch to dry wet feet etc. If I were the owner of this house I would want guests with dogs to respect the high quality standard of this cottage. The only minor niggle is the tv in the living room had poor quality sound. It’s not our priority as we were out late two evenings and I had a book to read but we found it hard listening when playing a dvd or watching any programmes. Other electrical goods fridge freezer, oven washing machine, and tumble dryer ( if needed) all excellent condition . We loved it and would come again. Best Sykes Cottage I have ever stayed in . My friend who came with us said it’s the best holiday cottage she has ever stayed in. Thank you Karen & Martyn

The cottage is lovely and, on the whole, was very comfortable apart from the settee which was pretty uncomfortable after a while. Location is excellent for a bit of exploring, we went to Grange over Sands which is an unexpected gem of a place and Ulverston, the birthplace on Stan Laurel. We`d have went further if only we had booked for longer but had a very nice break to recharge the batteries nevertheless. We have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone.
