  • "This is the 3rd time we have stayed at Edgemere."

    The property is just what we need. Dogs welcome, en-suite bathrooms and 3 bedrooms. We love it although it is a bit out of Cartmel. About a 25 minute walk. My only complaint is I felt the bedding not up to standard of house. The mattress and pillow protectors were stained and pillows need replacing. Also no welcome pack and a radio wouldn't go amiss. Otherwise very enjoyable.

  • "The maintenance low score was the long drive up to the house full of huge potholes."

    ..but as we were leaving someone arrived to start filling them in! A sign at the entrance would be good my friends gps did not get them to the property l had to go to Cartmel and they followed me !!! Small detail some coffee filter papers would be good local shop didnt sell any !

  • "Beautiful property although the location was extremely hard to find the satnav kept missing the entrance."

    I expected an easier walk into the square but it was down narrow country lanes and you took your life in your own hands. The house had everything we needed was very comfortable but the stairs although beautiful were slightly hard to navigate for us elderly folk my foot went through the open tread at one point but we managed. We would recommend this property and would book again. We thoroughly enjoyed our break.

  • "Had a pleasant week."

    Warm and cosy house. For us it was a little too far to walk into Cartmel so a car ride took a couple of minutes. Teapot and baking trays would have been useful.

  • "A great week staying over Xmas as the property provides loads of room for the family especially our nearly two year old grandson Arlo and the two dogs Milo and Ted."

    We had contacted Sykes before our stay to check there would be a Christmas tree, which they confirmed the owner said there would be and it looked great when we arrived along with a few other decorations. The house is great for quick access to Cartmel and fantastic pubs like the Cavendish Arms one of the best Sunday dinners you will get. Good walks on your door step without needing the car which was great on boxing’s day to get out as a family. Unfortunately some issues that still haven’t been addressed by the owners despite other guests reviews advising them and that we mention previously after our last visit: - Having previously stayed at the this property in June, where we gave feedback about cleanliness, floors were better this time but cobwebs are still an issue throughout and some of the windows and doors especially the door at the back need a good clean outside. - When we stripped the beds all the mattress protectors had stains on and some pillows protectors too. They need deep cleaning or replacing! - One lamp in lounge is broken on the neck and has been taped, goes off when you touch, really needs fixing correctly by an electrician or binning as not safe. - Heating locked so could not adjust and at times each day was very cold given the temperatures in late December, especially with a 2 year old. (Reviews show previous customers have complained at about the same issue) - Not enough glasses or champagne flutes for 6 people at Xmas this was a real disappointment and annoying. Only 4 flutes and 3 glasses for 6 adults! Overall we would stay here again, however we feel the owners do need to address the issues guest are raising and ensure who ever is looking after these properties for them, cares as much as I’m sure they do about their property.

  • "Stayed for 2 weeks before Christmas."

    The house is very modern and massive with 3 en-suite bedrooms. The living room and dining room are also massive and the only thing that lets it down is the relatively small kitchen. The garden is fenced and secure for dogs. The location has nice walks around up the hill behind and into Cartmel which takes around 1hr. If you’re going to walk after dark take a torch as your walking in the un lit countryside. We arrived in heavy rain with two dogs with no mop for the vast expanse of floors. We asked the day after for a mop which never arrived so had to use the supplied towels to clean the floors!

  • "Initially the house looked good looked lovely and was well equipped."

    But we discovered one of the bed bases was broken meaning one of our party had to sleep on the sofa as the bed was too uncomfortable. This was reported straightaway to the owner via the app - NO RESPONSE. On leaving we stripped the beds (as requested in the owner info book). 2 of the mattress protectors were heavily stained and hadn’t been properly washed. The cleaners arrived as we were leaving so we reported the broken bed as not to be told they were already aware and it had previously been reported to the owners. A further notification was then sent to Sykes through their app which was followed up via their online complaints WhatsApp chat but still I have had NO RESPONSE from anybody. Such a shame as it was a lovely house. However the customer service has been non-existent - it’s just not good enough!

  • "Location and cottage could not be faulted, have stayed previously at Edgemere Retreat in 2022 and loved it."

    Cottage cleanliness was well below what would be expected when paying the best part of a thousand pounds for a week. We felt it pointless to complaint as our neighbours at Edgemere Retreat had also complained about the cleanliness with very little satisfaction. The owners of the properties felt offering a 10% discount on next stay would suffice the fact that both properties were dirty. Back to our stay….floors all dirty so that our socks were brown coloured when we walked around, dirty mugs present in kitchen cupboards, cobwebs in most rooms, blinds covered in thick dust, mattress protector on my bed covered in a brown stain, throws on two of the beds dirty, mirrors in all bathrooms smeared, bedroom ( with veluxes) shower glass covered in watermarks, toilet brush full of tissue and faeces, fluff pooled in corners of room. Walls needing re-painting as covered in scuff marks. I could go on……… Not good enough for a property that alleges such a high-end finish.

  • "First time staying here, with my wife, my mum and the two dogs Milo and Teddy."

    The cottage is very nice and spacious with great views and easy access to the south lakes and Cartmel. Loads of pubs within a 10 minute drive for drinking and eating out. The only points that we feel need addressing are; cleanliness’s, down stairs floors in the hall needed mopping and attention to detail with regards to dust and cobwebs in top and bottom corners of rooms and the windows needed a good clean both outside and in. Secondly kitchen utensils for a high end property were lacking in quality, there is also no knife block or full knife set in the draws. Feedback above won’t stop us booking this property again and we will definitely be back.

  • "The property was top class & spotlessly clean."

    The outside area was lovely too. The location was perfect for visiting Grange, Cartmel, Bowness, Kendal etc etc etc. My only advice to other visitors would be to double check where your satnav is taking you. My son used Apple Maps & it took him straight to the house. I used Waze & it took me to a caravan site! My son had to drop a pin for me to find Edgemere!
