  • "We stayed at Jasper's Retreat in November for a week."

Weather wasn't brilliant but still found plenty to do. There was 6 of us and 3 dogs. There was plenty of room for all. The accommodation was big and roomy but still cosy. The underfloor heating and fire was great on the chilly evenings. The bathrooms were fab as was the walk in showers. Plenty of hot water. The bedrooms are a great size and the beds were very comfortable and all have good sized TVs. The kitchen had everything you could of wished for...plenty of cutlery, plates, dishes, mugs, glasses etc. The dining room table is big with plenty of elbow room and the furniture in the seating area is big and comfortable. Great size T.V too. The views are spectacular. I would love to go again in the summer months to be able to sit outside and look at those views. We did have a power cut due to storm Debi arriving but it really didn't bother us as we had torches and it didn't last that long, only around half hour. Great shopping in the town too. Good choice of restaurants and pubs. The dogs loved it too and didn't get under each others paws as there was plenty of room for them. They are biggish dogs too...Rottweiler, Alsatian and a medium sized rescue dog. Great field just up the hill for them to have a run round and also a park area down by the lake which is very secure and fenced off. Thank you for a great stay. We will no doubt be back.

It was a super base for our week in the Lake District. The house is very comfortable, well equipped and has been tastefully designed with lovely bedrooms and a lounge/dining area with views of Windermere and plenty of space for 3 couples to socialise. Our host was quick to address minor maintenance problems as soon as we reported them to her. We really hope to return in the future as we loved this property and its location.

  • "This is a beautiful property in lovely surroundings."

A nice welcome pack was left including a bottle of prosecco. There is a well laid out open plan kitchen, dining and living area with a veranda and seating with extensive views to the lake and the hills opposite. Our weather was unfortunately not good enough to let us use it more than twice. There was a good range of board games in the lounge. Having good views also comes at a slight cost in that the property is at the top of quite a steep hill. We didn’t find this a great problem despite two of our party being in their 70s. The three bedrooms were roomy and comfortable with 2 having en-suite bathrooms. We had some doubt about what the cleaners had done before our arrival. The bathroom floors had been mopped, but the floor still had loose mop strands or (dog) hair on the floor. One of our party spent an hour “hoovering” up (dog) hair and spider webs (some with residents) from room corners and along door frames. There was also a pair of pants that had been there for some time on one of the outdoor decks. The main TV in the lounge is a Sky Glass unit that I believe is directly connected to broadband. While we had no problems with laptops or phones using the wi-fi the TV regularly had sync issues between the picture and sound. Our solution was to watch it on “catch up” after the programme had been running for several minutes. As said above, this is a lovely property in a great location, and would definitely considerate it again for a holiday. We notice from the owner’s replies to other comments that they are planning some extensive upgrades next year. Can I suggest then, consideration be given putting full length mirrors in the bedrooms, preferably close to a power point, so ladies can use a hair dryer near a mirror. One bedroom only had a mirror in the bathroom with a razor point. Alternatively, a dressing table with a mirror near a power point would be good.

Thank you for your feedback .I am very sorry that you felt the need to hoover on your arrival ,this is totally unacceptable and I shall speak to housekeeping about this . However , I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at Jaspers Retreat overall .As previously mentioned ,we are doing renovations in January and your suggestions are greatly appreciated. I hope we can welcome you back to Jaspers next year to see the changes we have made . kind regards Martin and Lisa Property Owner

There were 6 of us and a dog, one couple both 60 and two couple in their early/mid thirties and we absolutely loved it (we were very lucky with the weather - hottest week of the year so far!). Facilities, views, position were stunning (could’ve done with air con though

Hi, thank you so much for your fantastic feedback! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Jaspers Retreat again and we’re delighted that you were there to experience our tropical climate. To be fair, you are the first guests in over 6 years that has requested AC, but given the recent hike in temperatures in the UK it’s actually something that we’re currently considering funnily enough. Anyway, we would like to thank you again for choosing Jaspers Retreat for your stay in the lakes and we hope to welcome you back again very soon…. Kind regards, Martyn and Lisa Property Owner

It was cosy and comfortable, and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. This is truly a home from home and we would definitely return. The open plan kitchen, dining and living area was a joy.. well thought out and with stunning lake views. The bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful and I can honestly say the beds were the most comfortable we have slept in over the 14 years we have been visiting the lakes. The outside balcony area was lovely, unfortunately we didn’t have enough of a dry spell to make much use of it, but a lovely place to sit and take in the views. One small point was that the decking felt like it needed a little attention.. and being so high up it could make you a little nervous to walk on. There isn’t much of a useable garden, which is a shame as we love a garden, but we knew this before we booked so it wasn’t a surprise. The location was great, and gave fabulous views, but those with walking difficulties would struggle with the climb back up the hill. All in all, Jaspers retreat is a joy. Thank you for sharing

  • "This is the second time we have stayed at Jaspers Retreat and it remains a fantastic property in most respects."

Fantastically situated with great views over the lake and access on to Brant Fell literally from the end of the road. The property is very spacious, with great bedrooms and bathroom facilities. Our only negative was noticing just a few minor elements, which could do with some TLC and addressing. For example some corners of the showers looked a little "shabby", cutlery and kitchenware could do with updating etc. On their own, just small things but with a property this impressive in most areas you would expect it to be followed through in all aspects and it would be a shame for it to be let down by what are very easily fixable things. Overall, though, another wonderful stay.

Hi Kevin, firstly, we would like to thank you for choosing to stay at our holiday home again and for providing such fantastic feedback. However, we are sorry to hear that you found a few minor issues and we would like to assure you that they are being addressed. As you will be aware, Jaspers Retreat is such a popular place to stay in the Lakes and we like to think that its luxurious surroundings (not to mention the views) is what sets it aside from anything else. We are genuinely blown away by its ongoing success, but as a result we sometimes struggle to find the time to keep on top of those special little touches that we know mean a lot to our guests. So you will be pleased to hear that we have booked the house out for 6 weeks in Jan/Feb 24 and we intend to give it all of the TLC it deserves including fitting a new kitchen and replacing all of the plates and cutlery, refurbishing all 3 bathrooms/bedrooms plus all of those special quirky little finishing touches that make Jaspers Retreat so special. Again, we are sorry that we didn’t quite meet all of your expectations on this occasion but rest assured, if you choose to stay again next year you won’t be disappointed. Thank you once again for choosing our holiday home and we hope to see you next year. Martyn and Lisa Property Owner

  • "Overall the property looks stunning with beautiful views and a great style."

The location is central and parking was not a problem. Beds were comfortable and amenities were good. There were a few things that were disappointing and would benefit from improvements. when we arrived we had to get the vacuum out to hoover the living areas as there was bits, dust and crums all over the living area floor. Used Soap and fluff balls behind the bath in the master bathroom. Handles missing off the wardrobes and some of the bedside tables, toilet seat was loose in the downstairs en-suite room. There was dog mess in the garden which I stood in when taking my dogs out. Cheap plastic hangers in some of the wardrobes and not a sufficient amount of hangers for multiple guests. No extra pillows other than those on the bed. For the price I would of expected better, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed or resolved for future.

Dear Guest, we are sorry to hear about the issues you experienced whilst you were staying at Jaspers Retreat and firstly, we would like to assure you that the issues have been passed to the Maintenance team and they will be addressed immediately. As the owners of Jaspers Retreat, we strive to make everyone’s stay at our holiday home as special as we can and that involves striving for perfection, but from time to time things get broken or stop working and they don’t always get reported and/or get missed during turnover. As you will be aware, Jaspers is very popular and the quick turnarounds makes it difficult to check everything. We do have 2 weeks every year set aside for decorating and major maintenance activities but as you have experienced, some of the smaller issues can sometimes get missed. So we would like to thank you for raising the issues and apologise again that we didn’t quite meet your expectations on this occasion. In terms of the dog mess in the garden, we allow guests to bring their furry friends on the basis that they clean up after them and 99% of them do, but unfortunately there’s always one or two that don’t. At the moment it’s just happening on the odd occasion but if it continues we may have to consider stopping owners bringing their pets - which would be such a shame. However, until then, please accept our apologies on behalf of the guests that stayed before you for leaving such a mess. We sincerely hope that this doesn’t deter you from booking Jaspers next time you’re coming to the lakes with your family and thank you for or all the positive feedback you provided too. Kindest regards, Martyn and Lisa Property Owner

Definitely experienced some luxury. The only constructive comment I can offer is regarding the wood/kindling - considering the size of property & staying for a week I think being a little more generous with this would be something to think about ( we were actually left with 7 pieces of kindling) however I would stay here again in a flash.

00 after a long journey on a congested M6 tired & hungry, no wood present for the log burner was rather disappointing. Also, the marketing details for the spa is somewhat misleading as I feel it should clearly state that the spa /leisure facilities is 2.4 miles down the road. Again, this was a disappointment which resulted in the facilities not being used.

Thank you for your feedback; I am sorry to read that you had a long journey to reach the Lake District. I don't usually leave logs in the property until the beginning of October but I take on board your comments and will consider providing them earlier. Property Owner
