Description
This whitewashed character cottage rests in a quiet location close to the village of Bowness-on-Windermere, within the heart of the Lake District.
The cottage is the perfect choice for a couple or a small family with a child and will charm in any season, with its cosy woodburning stove for the winter months and sunny patio to enjoy in the summer.
A traditional wooden latch door brings you into the compact but well-equipped kitchen, holding everything you could need to rustle up a delicious meal for your loved ones and with a convenient dishwasher you barely have to lift a finger to wash up!
Gather at the dining table to enjoy a hearty breakfast and plan the day’s events or use this space to have a romantic meal together over a well-deserved glass of wine.
Step into the cosy lounge where you can look forward to relaxing and unwinding in the evening whilst catching up on your favourite shows or enjoying quality family time.
Upstairs you can retire in the nicely-presented double bedroom while there is a smaller single room with 4-foot double bed and pleasant views onto Claife Heights.
Completing the interior of this Bowness cottage is the family bathroom where you can recover with a soothing bath after a day of sightseeing or freshen up with a shower in the morning.
Back on the ground floor, patio doors from the lounge lead to a large enclosed south facing patio where you can sample a fine al fresco meal with a glass of wine in the evening.
The amenities of Bowness are only a short walk away, including a choice of unique shops, bars, pubs and restaurants to try if you fancy a night off cooking.
Additionally, Lake Windermere is only a short walk away and is where many water-based activities can be enjoyed such as kayaking, boat tours and cruises, or you can take the car ferry across to the ancient town of Hawskhead and explore the collection of higgledy-piggledy houses, archways, and squares beloved by William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
Avid walkers will be sure to enjoy the superb walking opportunities while taking in the beautiful nearby viewpoints of Post Knott and Brantfell from where views up and down the lake and even over to the coast are possible on a clear day.
If you are travelling with younger guests or literature fanatics, spend a day exploring The World of Beatrix Potter and discover the history of Peter Rabbit and friends.
Further afield, venture into the picturesque town of Ambleside, where you will find plenty more shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés to fuel your excursions; a scenic drive will take you to the magnificent Wray Castle, a National Trust property encompassed by well-kept gardens and grounds, a tranquil day out to suit all tastes.

Wonderful cottage with everything you could need provided.
Very much home from home. It is in a wonderful location only a few minutes walk from the shops and lake Windermere. I would strongly recommend staying there.
The cottage is ideally located, clean and well equipped.
Parking was good and close to the property. Some wardrobe space in the 2nd bedroom would be good although l appreciate that would mean only having a single bed. Overall a very good stay.
A nice relaxing couple of days .

Parking wasnt a problem at all. The garden was fab and secure for dog and sitting out mornings and evenings. Bit disappointed no smart tv as we normally log into our netflix when away and sure lits of people do nowadays. Comfy beds and plenty of cutlery/equipment for use in the kitchen. Would definitely stay again

Great location. Turn right out of the cottage gate, walk along the back lane which brings you out at the bottom of the hill by the Beatrix Potter attraction. Turn left out of gate, down the gravel path (looks like a driveway) this brings you out at the top of the town by a sweetshop. Town is full of restaurants and cafes. Highly recommend King of Siam for an evening meal, dog welcomed. And the flying pig and Village inn pub with the family and dog. Tesco express and Co op both in the town. We are a family of two adults and a teenager. I think the cottage would be a squeeze with 4 adults. Sofas are small two seaters. Beds are doubles. Front bedroom was compact for one and lacked storage space. The wooden doors are a feature but you can see through all the gaps especially the bathroom door, drafty and very noisy to open and close and tricky to hold the latches. Garden was fine for our dog. Parking: permit given, got a space 6/7 days, one property was trying to hold a space for their guests, bit awkward. Handy to have items provided ie dish soap, toilet roll, condiments, laundry tabs (it's only a washer not a dryer) bath towels are huge and luxury. Ideal location as a base, we drove to lots of National Trust places, Keswick, Kendal, Ambleside, Grasmere, Hawkeshead, Coniston. Definitely got our steps in. First week of Easter hols was actually quite quiet. We had a very enjoyable busy week.
The cottage was perfectly situated a short walk from the centre of the town in a quiet row of cottages.
The owner contacted us prior to arriving to make sure we got a parking space. Inside was spotlessly clean and actually better than the photos! Everything you could possibly need was on hand. A lovely quiet and peaceful stay even though the weather was AWFUL! We will return :)

Very quiet area and yet super close to many great restaurants, shops and short walk from the lake. We will definitely be back.

We found Rustic Cottage to be fantastic.
Very warm on cold winters nights with the log burner and central heating. The beds were very comfortable and there is a lovely bathroom. It is in a great area for walking with plenty of amenities very close by. Everything you could need was in the kitchen and there are lots of leaflets about the area as well as books. We can highly recommend this dog friendly cottage.
Last minute booking , so happy it was a little hidden gem in a great location
The cottage was absolutely beautiful, cosy, clean, everything you needed was there, beautiful touches and the christmas tree was up which was extra special.
The location was perfect and we had a parking permit which was perfect and had no problem parking. We had all the instructions we needed for everything. It was so nice and warm when we arrived and the log burner was amazing. The hosts were just a phone call away if we needed them. We had a lovely surprise from them with a bottle of prosecco and lovely chocolates. We cannot wait to return.

Was as expected and quite pleased with cottage great location and great value for money the only small gripes we're kitchen utensils of very basic quality handles fell of two knifes and couches not very comfortable.
But on saying that we will definitely return to this lovely little cottage

The cottage was perfect.
Well situated for the town which had so many choices for bars and restaurants. Ideally located for travelling to visit different areas of the Lakes. Plenty of options for boat trips or boat hire within a few minutes walk. It was cosy and clean with all the amenities you could need for a short or long stay.

We had a perfect week in this delightful cottage.
Parked our car up on arrival using the parking pass supplied by the property and never used the car until we went home. All the amenities provided in the cottage are so well thought out - no need to rush out buy wash up liquid, cooking oil, salt/pepper etc - they are all provided by the lovely owners. You feel instantly at home here. Very clean and well maintained cottage. A very short walk takes you into Bownes where you can take your pick of restaurants, cafes, pubs etc. Most are dog friendly. Some gorgeous walks in the area and boat trips on Windermere to take you to other walking routes. Almost didn’t want to write this review as I don’t want this cottage to be booked up next time we want to go. Highly recommend this property and the owners are on hand for any questions you have.

Its interesting to note that more of our guests park their car and make use of the excellent local bus service. Avoiding the stress of driving and parking whilst on holiday. Absolute gem of a place.
Decided we wanted to get away for a few nights after Xmas and New Year, and this was perfect. Great location, immaculately clean and just perfect for a couple. Whilst the temperature rarely got above freezing for the 4 nights, we were lucky there'd been snow so with Crystal blue skies, snow on the mountains and calm settled weather it was a great break. We got parked on Craig Walk within about 20m but as the information says,there's free parking very close by, though how close would depend on how busy the area is. We left the car and bought a 5 day bus ticket which got us to Ambleside and Grasmere and I believe Keswick and Kendal if we'd have wanted.

We had a lovely holiday at Rustic cottage ,short walk into town though very peaceful and quiet at the cottage which was extremely well equipped,in fact one of the best of the many cottages we have stayed in.
The beds were excellent, so comfortable. The owner kindly kept a parking space for us ,use of permit available but we didn't use the car all week using an excellent bus service instead.

Very comfy warm cottage.
. Clean and well equipped..Although a parking perit is supplied you can hardly ever park in the road leading to the cottage. As i have difficulty walking this was a great inconveinience, so much so i would not book this cottage again.

Regarding the permit parking this is normal for most properties in the area, although we understand and sympathise with your personal circumstances free parking is always available literally around the corner.
A gorgeous little cottage in such a peaceful spot.
Bowness is really busy with tourists but this cottage is at the end of a cul de sac so no passing traffic. The owner kindly saved us a parking space really close to the cottage and texted us to let us know, it was so helpful for unloading! Lovely facilities and the shops etc just a short distance away including a Tesco express, very handy!! Local bus service is fantastic so you could park up and go everywhere on buses for only£2 a journey!

Nice and quiet. Very comfortable rooms and very cosy.The best sleep ever.The beds and Pillows are brilliant.Our disabled Daughter wanted to bring it home.Coulnt believe how well equipped the Cottage was The owners have thought of everything for their guests incase they've forgot it.Would recommend to anybody visiting Windermere.The location is Superb for the lakes

Such a lovely stay at number 3 Rustic Cottages.
Of all the holiday homes we have stayed in over the years, this has been the best equipped. We were met on arrival and helped to find a suitable parking place. The cottage was spotless and comfortable. The bed was super comfy. This is a perfect base to discover the lake area. We even had lots of fine weather.

A lovely warm and cosy cottage with very comfortable beds and everything we needed.My only little gripe was that I thought that there were logs supplied in the rent for the log burner for which there was 1 log!! It wasn't a problem as I went to the Booth store and bought some and the log burner worked a treat! A lovely cottage and would love to stay again maybe in the summer months.Thank you.

Absolutely beautiful cottage, had everything we needed and the Christmas tree just totally set the scene.
It was lovely and warm and had everything we needed for a lovely stay. The only negative we could say was barking dogs. A dog constantly barked every morning and throughout the day in the bedroom adjoining the main bedroom in our cottage as my wife isnt well with pain she has to dose sometimes throughout the day if she hasn’t slept at night but this was impossible with the continuous noise. There was also a dog at number 1 which seemed to be out in the garden early morning and left to bark and late at night. We have a dog and she can bark a couple of times if someone knocks on the door but otherwise is kept in check and certainly wouldn’t be left to bark bark. Bark continuous!!!It was disappointing and annoying and did spoil the stay unfortunately, some people don’t seem to have respect for other people.

We are sorry the issue of barking dogs caused a tarnish to your stay. Unfortunately this is out of our control. Normally our guests enjoy the peace and tranquility which our cottage provides. Lovely cottage clean and very well equipped,and the perfect location close to shops and restaurants but still nice and quiet.
The only down side was the parking although a permit is provided, its on a first come first served basis and can be a long walk to the cottage when unloading luggage, and as there's no where to turn the car round you have to reverse out onto the road.I would definitely stay here again despite the parking as its a lovely cottage.

Although it’s first come first serve there is always parking literally around the corner. The central and quiet location of the property in Bowness out weighs the initial parking issue. Very comfortable stay, was well equipped.
We didn't find in the cottage where to contact Dr, dentists etc and some of the leaflets were a bit out of date. Apart from these minor things we thoroughly enjoyed the location and that it was so close to where we wanted to go

Lovely cottage with everything you could need in the kitchen to make a nice meal for a change from eating out.
Comfy beds with quality linen and towels provided and the cottage was in a good position for both Bowness centre or a short walk into Windermere. Also had a nice enclosed back garden for our dog to play in. Had a lovely week and hope to return in the future Thanks Graham.

Location for Bowness is perfect and lots added home comforts in the cottage to enhance your stay (my daughter loved the hot water bottles).

very warm and comfortable well laid out very clean and tidy great position close to the heart of Bowness but without the commotion that comes with the hustle and bustle of a busy town you have peace and quiet, with thanks to the owners for their attention to detail.

Cleaned to a high standard & very comfortable with everything we needed. Central in Bowness but tucked away just off a side street so very quiet. The permit parking is a bonus. Highly recommend this little gem. Cant wait to return again! Thanks Graham & Hazel

My wife is very particular about cleanliness where we stay and the cottage looked and smelt clean and fresh the minute we walked in. Would recommend to others and stay again if we visit the area again

Main problem was lack of parking, on arrival we had loads to unload, arriving on a Saturday when Bowness is still so busy it was not surprising to find no parking slots.
This lead to upteem trips back & fro to off load & although the cottage well caters with lots of extras, milk would have been good, there was everything else to make a cuppa apart from milk. Great touches like torches, hoover being available, cling film, foil etc, door mat inside kitchen would have been useful Overall a lovely cottage, would not return due to parking problems (& although no fault of anyone) the low flying jets, which we experienced last year as well, they petrified our dog, which meant us walking with her off lead almost impossible).
Many thanks for your comments. We appreciate that Permit parking is sometimes a little difficult,as you know a simple map is available in the cottage on the kitchen table. This directs guests to parking which is always available around the corner. Unloading on arrival( if no Permit parking is available) can be done at the entrance of the cottage and your vehicle can then be parked around the corner. Please note most properties in the area have the predicament. Your comment regarding supplying milk is a worthy comment and we will act on this.
The property was a little small for our needs and the stairs were very steep with a bend at the top, a small rail would help.
The parking was very poor.
Sorry you were disappointed with the size of our cosy cottage, please remember the property is nearly 400 years old and the interior ambience reflects this. In our opinion the stairs are no more steeper than an average household. Your comment regarding the additional rail at the top of the stairs is appreciated and certainly gives us the opportunity for improvement. Most properties in this area have Permit parking. Again we appreciate your comments.

We had a lovely stay at Rustic Cottage.
The owners couldn't be more helpful and assisted with parking in the area as soon as we arrived. We were lucky enough to be let into the cottage early too. The cottage itself is very nice and superbly located in the town of Bowness. The cottage was full of character and quaint but also had modern facilities and was spotlessly clean. The cottage also has a lovely back garden which we all enjoyed using. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and I have already recommended this place to friends.

Really wish I could give higher ratings!
Graham and hazel made us feel very welcome - looking out for us the minute we arrived and letting us know they were there if needed. The property is brilliantly located near the centre and lake. Very private and cosy. The cottage and garden were secure and super clean. My dog could safely explore without worry if escaping. All the little extras we kept finding tea, coffee, torches, tissues, reed diffusers to name a few showed the care and thought put in to make guests feel welcome and at home. Only downside is it only sleeps 3 as I am planning a break with my friends later in the year but we won’t all fit!! Thank you for helping to make our visit to the lakes a lovely experience
It’s extremely satisfying to receive such a heart warming review, it confirms we are achieving a cosy relaxing base when exploring the lakes. Obviously our location central in Bowness certainly helps. If you ever wish to return it would be an absolute pleasure.

Contact to advise us cottage ready early and some great little touches (diffusers, torches, condiments) that made you feel instantly at home. Super location that makes just a short walk to lake and shops. Could not be better fully recommended.

Rustic Cottage is just amazing, has retained its rustic charms but also has some modern twists & nice touches.
Cleaned to a high standard ready for our arrival. Had everything we needed a proper home from home. Beds are very comfy, shower over the bath very powerful, perfect after a days walking. Location is central in Bowness but also peaceful & quiet. A lovely little garden where you can sit outside too, lovely to watch all the different birds that visit. All in all a perfect place to stay, can’t wait to visit again!

The bed was so comfortable and bathroom was lovely. A nice garden to sit out on a summer evening. A short walk into town with an abundance of shops, pubs and eateries. Definitely recommend this cottage as a base.

Such an efficient booking system which immediately sent us all the information we could have needed instead of us having to search a website.
A scarce delight to use and will definitely book again. The cottage was exactly as listed - wonderfully clean with lots of unexpected extras provided. Although this was a lovely surprise it might be helpful to give details to save people packing unnecessary essentials such as cleaning / dishwasher tablets. But one cannot complain about going above and beyond! To have thought if everything and more it was just a little surprising bit to have a mirror in the bathroom. But a very minor point. Location was great and we had a super few days. Thank you.

We thouroughly enjoyed rustic cottage for the second time.
However I do think the bathroom since being decorated is in much need of a mirror for shaving/make up application. But this is a small, minor thing we will definitely come again and recommend it to others. Thanks Mr and Mrs Robin Evans.
