  • "Having read previous reviews, we were aware that you have to bring your own wood/logs etc to use the open fire but would be a good idea to make this clear when advertising the property to avoid disappointment."

The house was a real home from home with excellent beds and enough space for our family. One point to note is that whilst the wooden floors are lovely, it was very slippy under four in the hall area and one of our party (a pregnant lady) nearly suffered a fall as she slid along the floor. Possibly a notice to caution guests would ensure extra care is taken when entering. Would definitely look to book in the future.

The property is spacious and beautiful. Rooms are light and airy. Everything we needed is provided. It would have been nice to receive a small welcome pack but this is the only thing I would suggest for improvement. Parking was good. Location great. The house was warm. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. We will be returning next year.

  • "The kitchen and conservatory floor had not been mopped."

The conservatory floor had broken bits of biscuits under the conservatory table. The conservatory settees had a thin layer of dust on them. The staircase hadn't been cleaned either! All these jobs had to be done by me! We've payed 2k for this place for a week! I shouldn't be cleaning a property on the first day - absolute disgrace! However, the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy though! There was also two fag ends outside by the front door! This is a beautiful property that's been let down by poor cleaning!

We had to call the support number a few times but they sent out the plumber within an hour and he had to remove the washing machine to get to the pipe valves to re pressurise the boiler. (He didnt fully re fit the washer as he said the valve was dripping and needs fixing). Due to the snowfall the cars were snowed in on the property but luckily i carry a snow shovel in winter. It might be good though if the property had a shovel available on the premises for such emergencies ?. Obviously this was extreme weather so not a bad feedback isdue but just an idea. Overall our stay was brilliant.

  • "Overall the house was clean and tidy and facilities fairly good."

For us, it was just too enclosed and dark inside, especially at the back in the kitchen/dining room and the third bedroom, (which by the way only has a toilet and basin ensuite and you have to travel downstairs past the front door for a shower! The details on the website are not completely clear on this point) I know it mentions being set in rock but the photos do not show how close and oppressive it is! The window frame in the main bedroom is completely rotten now, I'm surprised it is able to hold the glass and you certainly couldn't safely open it. I think we were all just a little disappointed, it didn't live up to our expectations. We actually came home a day early. On a positive note, it's a nice walk into town and down to the lake but sorry we won't be returning.

  • "Lovely place great location we had a good stay there."

There were a few minor maintenance issues: 1. In the main bedroom one of the window frames at the bottom was rotten and needs replacing, 2. There is a wasp nest in the roof eves above the conservatory that needs attention. We were pestered by wasps in the conservatory all week, 3. A light bulb in the main bedroom en-suite was flickering and needs replacing, 4. The dishwasher tablet mechanism does not work. Lastly, it would be useful when ringing Lake Lovers who manage the property that there were 3 hairdryers provided, a cleaning welcome pack was provided and its contents, there was no washing machine powder provided so bring your own (we were told there would be some), fairy liquid was provided, rubbish sacks provided and there is a well stocked kitchen including cheese grater and slow cooker. There was also 2 cafetières.

The welcome packs were such a nice touch, All occupants slept so well and I’m sure we all checked what mattresses were being used on the beds. Bathrooms to die for. Shops easy to reach by car or a slow walk. We just fell in love with the house and setting. Nestled in slate and rock luminous moss is a true dream of a house. • "We had such an amazing time at this absolutely stunning house."

The house was easy for us to find following our Sat Nav, We have a large 7 seater car with a long wheelbase and managed parking fine with a little manoeuvring at the bottom of the lane and reversing in. Extremely well presented and immaculate when we walked in, with absolutely everything you could ever need for a break away. From books and games in the lounge area to every cooking utensil you will ever need in the kitchen. Bedrooms big, spacious, comfortable and extremely clean. Reading previous feedback we could tell that the owners of this stunning Lakeland home listen to feedback and take huge pride in making it perfect for us to enjoy. Everything slightly negative we had read had been resolved making a perfect stay. Our only teeny tiny problem was the main oven wasn’t working, our guess is no one has thought to mention it on leaving so it couldn’t be fixed. We are already looking at next year and can see this being our annual location, just perfect, thank you.

  • "Loved the cottage."

Very comfortable and well equipped. Really good value too and ideally located. Would definitely recommend the cottage. We were less impressed by Lakelovers (first time booking with them). We had a few issues on arrival - the master bedroom shower door had been broken. A maintenance man came to fix it not long after we arrived (and before we reported it) but he was unable to do so. He was lovely and did his best but it would have been good had we been contacted in advance to warn of his arrival. When we attempted to use the dishwasher (an important feature for us and one which we consider an essential criteria), the tablet compartment was broken. We went to the Lake Lovers office the first morning of our stay. We were able to enter the office but no one was present. We waited for approx 5 minutes shouting for someone but ended up leaving. We later phoned and were advised to just put the tablet in the bottom and run in. This hadn't worked previous and we later found there was no rinse aid or salt and we found the filter to be blocked as water wasn't draining and full of food stuff we hadn't used. We were asked if we wanted someone to come out and said that we would but no one came and there was no contact. We appreciate it's difficult to identify and deal with problems created by previous guests but expect much better communication.

  • "Silver Howe was exactly as described."

It did not disappoint. When we arrived there was definitely a wow moment. The 9 year old with us couldn’t wait to explore and had a great time investigating the books and cranny’s. It was wonderful to see her imagination come to life as she discovered more and more. We were extremely pleased with how well stocked the kitchen was with crockery, everything has been thought of. We could have baked if we wanted to (but we didn’t have time). The rooms were spotless. Spacious and beautifully furnished and the beds were so comfortable. It was like being at a home away from home. We walked into Bowness everyday with pushchairs (I have a double) we took three infants with us, and all the accessories they require through the day. Although harder towards the middle it was absolutely achievable. This was something that worried me reading different feedback. I do imagine that someone who isn’t in the best of health may struggle. However, the other couple who came had their baby by C-section 12 weeks ago, and, even after major surgery managed the walk with little difficulty. Brilliant stay. Would highly recommend.

Foldable wash basket could be stored in cupboard above washer/dryer as needed to use machine due to travelling with 2 small children. Everything else was great, the only downside was car access to property as travelling with 2 family cars and unfortunately this is a deal breaker for me. I managed to off street park and remained there till end of holiday as this is a really busy street. If only drive was couple of feet wider you could get more swing on car as drive itself ample space. Saying this the owners have a beautiful home, not only in looks but comfort and I cannot recommend this property enough for anyone with more guts than me to attempt access road. The beds are comfortable and I think we benefitted from new sofas which were also really nice. Each bedroom has an en-suite facility and they are beautifully dressed with good quality furniture. It is in a fantastic location and easy to walk to shops etc., only a small incline as based nearer bottom of hill than top. All in all a house that the owners should be proud of and that holiday makers can feel totally comfortable and at home in. Loved it.

The settees in the lounge are extremely uncomfortable. My husband doesn't complain about much, but even he could not get comfortable. Not good when you want to relax! Both of the ovens were dirty (greasy) including the oven tray which had not been washed. The kitchen floor appeared to be unwashed. The fridge freezer needs replacing. The bottom drawer of the freezer does not pull out, therefore you have to remove the drawer above to put food into or take out. I put our freezer packs in and when I removed them at the end of our stay, they came out with big chunks of ice attached from the bottom of the drawer. The freezer then leaked on the floor as has been mentioned by several other guests in the guest book. The house is extremely dark being built right next to large rocks in the back garden and having a porch right along the front. You need the lights on during the day!

Lovely comfy beds (we slept like logs every night), but the sofas in the lounge could do with replacing as not very comfortable (a bit lumpy in places). Nice and quiet location but only 5 mins walk from the town centre and main attractions, so no need to hunt for a parking space to enjoy the local area. Plenty of room for cars in the courtyard, along with a surprisingly large gorgeous garden to relax in.
