  • "A wonderful combination of an old building, tastefully adapted to modern day requirements."

While located in the centre of the village the cottage is very quiet en especially the small courtyard at the back is a very nice place to relax. The only (minor) suggestions for improvements are: - more wardrobe space in the bedrooms: the current "antique" storage is not very practical - a wifi amplifier so that there is also a strong signal in the courtyard

  • "We had a great week staying at the Old Toffee Shop."

Comfy beds, great showers, big smart TV for using our own Netflix account on the couple of evenings we stayed in. The property was of a high standard throughout with a well equipped and up to date kitchen. Having rear access to store our bikes security outside at the back was really helpful. Parking was no problem at all, King St car park was literally less than a minute away and we always found a space, not that we used the car much! Quiet location but very close to all the shops, bars, cinema and restaurants. I always take ear plugs on holiday but never used them once! The owners have thought of everything to make a holiday stay comfortable, the cottage was spotless, the welcome pack went down very well as did the good quality toiletries and I honestly can’t think of anything to improve it. Highly recommended and would love to stay here again. If only all holiday accommodation could be like this!

  • "We had a wonderful weeks stay in the Old Toffee Shop."

The cottage is beautifully presented and lived up to our expectations. The location is excellent. We managed to park right outside to unload and then moved our car to local car parks utilising the permit provided. We only struggled to park on a couple of occasions at the end of the week which was the beginning of half term when the car parks were full! The facilities in the cottage were excellent with everything we could need and high quality pots, pans and cutlery etc. There was a good selection of games which was a bonus and the welcome hamper was one of the best we’ve ever received. We could have done with some storage space in the master bedroom en suite as we had to pile our toiletries on the windowsill. This wasn’t a problem but will likely cause damage longer term to paintwork etc. A second permit for guests would also be welcome as the cottage is suited to 4 adults (albeit it would be a bit cramped for a full week) but parking is only provided for one car. There is no storage in the kitchen for food so a spare cupboard would be helpful, and a bath sheet would be good too as the towels were too small to wrap around. Tiny quibbles that wouldn’t stop us returning as overall the cottage was wonderful and we would recommend to all.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments about the cottage. A parking permit is currently £650 annually, which like other goods and services has risen in price dramatically in the last year. We do let guests know that there is only one provided by the cottage prior to booking. We will look into providing additional storage space in the master en-suite. There is some space in the kitchen cupboards for storing food, a little in the sideboard and in the cupboard under the stairs. However, we will have a look if this can be increased further. Please do come back and visit the cottage again. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely fantastic!"

We had a brilliant week in Ambleside staying at this little gem of a cottage. Old Toffee Shop is situated in a quiet but central area of the village. The cottage is recently renovated to a very high standard with beautiful fixtures and fittings throughout...and has everything you could possibly want. It was spotlessly clean with a few unexpected welcoming touches! We can't recommend this cottage enough and will definitely be back!

  • "Minor issue with towel radiator in bathrooms which was quickly resolved by a very helpful call from owner."

It seems a previous occupant had turned off the electrical isolation switch to each radiator. Otherwise, absolutely no problems. Highly recommend.

  • "The cottage was excellent and the facilities provided were of a very high standard."

The temperature of both showers was set far too low and we were unable to regulate this to a high enough temperature for both showers. Also, given the time of the year, i.e. early spring, the heating was difficult to regulate to a satisfactory temperature. Aside from this, excellent stay and would recommend to anyone wishing to visit Ambleside and the Lakes

Many thanks for your feedback and lovely comments regarding the cottage. Please be assured that we have checked the heating and hot water system and found the cottage to be lovely and warm and both showers hot. Please do come back and visit us again Property Owner

Do not need a car, stunning walks from the doorstep and bus stop and restaurants just over the road.

  • "Simply excellent!"

The Cottage exceeded our expectations as a homely place to stay, right in the heart of Ambleside. The owners have fully refurbished fairly recently and everything has been done to a very high standard using quality equipment - not always something you find in a holiday rental. I simply can’t find anything to fault. The location is also excellent for walking out to pubs, restaurants or shops and there are also many good walks you can do from the cottage without taking your car. We certainly would not hesitate to try and book the cottage again when we next visit the lakes. Thank you! Trevor Rees

  • "Lovely property, well located close to all of the local amenities."

Great base for walking in the Lake District. The property is very clean and presented beautifully. Lots of lovely finishing touches like slippers, chocolates and ground coffee beans left for us on arrival which made our stay even more special. The parking permit left inside the property made parking in Ambleside and in most of the villages we visited in the Lake District much easier and cheaper. Would definitely stay at this property again.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

. The cottage is decorated beautifully and it is very comfy. The information on the parking available was a little confusing and it wasn’t clear if the pass meant we could stay in the car parks for long stay/ duration of our time there. Usually when I have stayed in Sykes Cottages before that have a log burner it is set up for at least one fire on arrival. A little disappointing that there was nothing at the property to use. Also there was only one bag provided in the bin, this easily split and there was nowhere else to put rubbish.

Very clever use of space so that two couples could stay if required. Everything needed is provided - only comment would be nice to have provided logs for wood burner. fantastic location in centre of Ambleside.

  • "Exquisite property - we appreciate cleanliness, attention to detail, comfort and modern conveniences."

Beautifully decorated, well furnished and just steps away from shops, pubs, and restaurants. Parking was not a problem for us - we parked just outside the flat on the street and unloaded and by the time we were done it was fine to leave the car on the street until 10am the next morning. We parked on the street between 6pm and 10am every day and outside of these times we parked in the local car parks when we weren’t touring the lakes. This space was a home away from for us and we will definitely book again!

It is small but perfectly formed. It feels luxurious, it’s beautifully decorated, the en suites are generous and the under floor heating means it never feels cold. We absolutely loved our stay, it was so relaxing and so close to shops and restaurants.
