  • "Loved the cottage but did a good dusting lots of cobwebs & living room furniture a little uncomfortable- Not much garden to sit in - & parking a bit hit & miss we had issues with the castle/Abby visits - car parking for disabled had to be pre/booked but was useless if the person was driving was the disabled one!"

!!- as you had to drop off the disabled person at the event then someone else had to Drive the car to a long distance private carpark !!! USLESS!!! Very un sympathetic towards disabled persons needs !!!!! One of the reason for the stay was to visit these attractions

Thank you for your feedback and for staying at Sunny Bank. I’m sorry to hear that you found the furniture uncomfortable. The cottage normally receives very positive comments about comfort but I will make sure to get more feedback on this and make changes if needed. With it being a 300 year old property with exposed stone walls, through the summer it is unfortunately difficult to catch all the spiders each week but I do spend quite some time at each changeover on this. The outdoor space includes a 15 x 5 metre mature garden with a good sized lawn, flower beds and raised cut flower beds which are professionally maintained. There are mature trees at the far end of the garden and a six-seater picnic bench on the lawn. Additionally there is a bistro table and three chairs in front of the cottage. The back yard is mainly used to store bins and recycling. It’s a shame you didn’t get to visit the Castle and Priory (please note there is no Abbey in Lancaster). I went to speak to the castle guards recently to check on accessibility. Visitors who pre-book a tour and who carry a blue badge are reserved a space in the castle’s private car park which is situated between the castle wall and the adjacent priory church. Unfortunately this does involve a two-minute walk around to the front entrance of the castle. There is also pay-at-meter parking directly in front of the entrance which is free for blue badge holders. It is worth bearing in mind that there are stone steps and walking involved on the tour itself as the castle is medieval so places like the dungeons, Shire Hall, hanging room and courtroom are on different levels. I noticed in your guest book comments that you were disappointed with your meal at the Station Hotel and requested a full refund which you received. They usually do excellent food and are very popular with the locals so it’s a shame they didn’t meet your standards on this occasion. Property Owner

  • "I stayed at Sunny Bank for a 4 week period, whilst searching for permanent accommodation in the area."

I had not long arrived from Australia & was working full time. I had also brought my pet cat over with me, & Sally (the owner) was very generous about letting her stay in the cottage with me. Sally is a lovely lady, who was helpful & kind, & her attention to detail in Sunny Bank is a testament to her thoughtfulness for the needs of others. In the 4 weeks I spent at Sunny Bank, I did not want for anything. The cottage has everything you could possibly need, for any length of stay. I imagine if there was something you might want, that wasn’t in the cottage, Sally would do all she could to try & help you out. I cannot speak highly enough of her generosity & kindness. Thank you Sally, for all the hard work & effort you have put into the renovation & modernisation of the 300+ year old Sunny Bank, & then sharing the fruits of all that labour with the rest of us. I highly recommend Sunny Bank to anyone looking for the comforts of a home-away-from-home experience, in a beautiful area of Lancashire.

Beds comfortable, shower wonderful and kitchen kitted out with premium equipment. Plenty to explore in the surrounding areas - we hadn't realised how beautiful it was, we were extremely lucky with the weather which included a couple of record breaking hot days. Local pub was welcoming serving very reasonably priced food which we sampled a few times during our stay! Thank you Sally for the very enjoyable treats in the fridge! The Beds are THE most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in considering I’ve staying in 5* hotels the beds at the cottage are so incredibly comfortable it’s like sleeping on a cloud. The area is quiet although close to pub and shops, there are walks and places to visit close by and I genuinely can’t say how much we really enjoyed our stay and can’t rate it highly enough. We had to be there because of a sudden death in the family and Sally the owners is the sweetest kindest lady I’ve ever known. Sally made sure that we were happy and comfortable and was ready to help with anything instantly and for that I will always respect her for this and also be a loyal customer as well as friend. If anyone needs a comfortable calm clean space to rest then the cottage is definitely the place is to unwind and recharge. Thank you Sally your amazing as your cottage is too
