  • "Cragfell Cottage is spacious, comfortable and had everything needed for our stay."

It’s set in the most beautiful countryside, with gorgeous views and is so peaceful & quiet. There are lovely walks from the front door, we walked to Masons Arms which serves great food. The cottage is a great base to explore the Southern Lake District. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely book again!

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Cragfell and look forward to welcoming you back at some time in the future. Property Owner

The cottage is in a beautiful location with stunning views. An ideal couple get away and only a 15 minute drive to the town of Bowness-on-Windermere. Highly recommend!

Thank you for coming back to stay at Cragfell. We have done some drain clearing so that should be sorted now. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. The cobwebs should also be gone! We hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely fortnight at Cragfell Cottage."

The weather wasn't that good, but most of the time, we were either in the cottage or at some attraction that was indoors, so it didn't really stop us from doing anything. On 2 occasions when the weather was particularly bad, it wiped the WiFi out, but once we reported it to the owners, BT were out very quickly. I would say the only 2 tiny criticisms we had, there was no iron or ironing board & as we were there for 2 weeks, we really could have used one. And the other thing, we didn't know what all the symbols around the oven dial were. We use gas at home so we had absolutely no clue.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are pleased to be able to say that from the middle of October we will be switching to B4RN internet so hopefully that will resolve the impact the weather has on internet access! We take on board the comment about the iron and ironing board and will put one up there in the cupboard. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and the bad weather didn't spoil it! Property Owner

  • "Overall the cottage was above my expectations."

It had everything and more. We did miss our boiled egss as there were no egg cups and an iron and ironing board would have been handy. There could have been more information as to the location. The drive to and from the cottage would challenge a nervous driver. You need to buy all you food essentials in one go as there are no supermarkets or small shops in the local area.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave feedback. We are pleased that in the main Cragfell Cottage exceeded your expectations. We think it is in a rather special spot and although the surrounding lanes are narrow, they are very quiet. With the bustling centre of Bowness only 5 miles away, many of our guests find they have the best of both worlds - chance to access shops, theatre, cinema and restaurants and then return to the peace and quiet of Hartbarrow. Thanks also for drawing our attention to the fact the egg cups had disappeared! They will be replaced as soon as possible. Property Owner

  • "Very comfortable cottage, with amazing views."

Spacious for a two-person cottage. Facilities in cottage excellent and welcome pack a great touch. Great base for South Lake District and Cartmel peninsula. We enjoyed fabulous weather during our stay and as such missed having comfortable sun loungers to fully appreciate the evening sun. Would highly recommend the cottage to other couples.

Thank you for your lovely feedback for Cragfell Cottage. It is lovely to hear that you enjoyed your holiday and the fabulous weather! We generally are not so lucky in the Lake District and usually the outdoor seating that is provided is adequate for people to enjoy the view and fresh air. We hope to welcome you again. Very relaxing and peaceful, it was the perfect break from our city lives. Very clean and facilities were good, it had what we needed for our weekend away. Only issue was one of the outside chairs was broken, however that never spoilt our trip. We would definitely recommend it and will be coming back in the future.

The house was absolutely gorgeous, the bed super comfortable and the booklet for information was very helpful. It was a home away from home. We did one of the recommended walks which was brilliant despite the weather. Thank you for such a perfect honeymoon stay, we'll definitely be back again!

Was a lovely place to stay but would have liked an iron and ironing board and no kitchen roll was non present no full length mirror or a wardrobe in the bedroom otherwise a fantastic place to stay Geoff

Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback and we will take your comments on board. We do usually make sure there is kitchen roll available so I'm sorry about that. There is no wardrobe but there is good quality clothes rail with hangers which is not uncommon in small cottage holiday lets. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and I hope you both got home OK. • "The cottage was beautiful, the scenery was spot on."

The only let down was that when we first arrived it smelled of tarmac/burning quite badly, we later found out it was the boiler near the bedroom which is awfully strong. Smelt of tarmac throughout the whole week. No dressing table was available.. I had to use my phone camera as a mirror and sit at the dining table downstairs. Although as we were getting ready to leave we found a small cosmetic mirror in the bottom of the chest of drawers. Didn’t think to look there for a mirror. Started to cook dinner on our first night to find some of the plates, utensils were still dirty, had to wash up before we could use. Food was left over in the freezer from the last residents. No oven gloves The shower was brilliant, bathroom was beautiful but where it’s a “open shower” the floor of the whole bathroom gets soaking wet. Overall it was a lovely stay with a few issues.

Thank you for your feedback. We will look into the boiler smell as this is not normally noticeable. We will also take up the issue of the dirty plate etc with the cleaner who is normally excellent as previous reviews have testified, however that's no excuse so we can only apologise for that. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay in the beautiful Winster valley. Property Owner

Would we book again, oh yes, cannot recommend enough - you really have to stay in this cottage to appreciate the location and facilities - absolutely amazing

The location just cannot be beaten and is conveniently situated with three public houses and restaurants at the neighbouring Strawberry Bank, Bowland Bridge and Winster.

These are within a 25 minute walk or a short drive.

It is also close to the bustling village of Bowness.

After parking your car in one of the two parking spaces, step into the large and spacious open plan kitchen/diner with its exposed wooden beams and vaulted ceiling, the kitchen/dining area is fully equipped with everything you need to cook that hearty breakfast or indeed have a romantic ambient dinner. Just off the dining area is a downstairs cloakroom with WC and basin. The sitting room has floor to ceiling windows and French doors, enabling you to admire the views.

Sit and watch the TV or relax and read a book.
