The kitchen is well stock with cutlery and crockery and glasses etc and everything else if you want to cook homemade food like we did. I would highly recommend this cottage. A lot of review say and the position of the cctv above the hot tub but to be honest it didn’t bother us in the slightest and we just relaxed and took no notice of it really. I would give this cottage 10/10.

This matter was promptly resolved.seemingly there were outstanding maintenance issues from previous reviews but what impacted on us greatly was the excessive use of cctv cameras including directly above the hotub ! this was very alarming and we would not of booked had we been aware of this gross invasion of our privacy , we were advised cctv was not monitored ,which begs the question why was it there at all ?

  • "Our stay at Daisy Cottage over a number of days was lovely."

We have stayed in a number of various self-catering properties over the years, and whilst this stay was enjoyable - I would highly recommend that the owners check the feedback on this website and the guest book, as there are a number of items that still haven't been addressed. These include: 1) Bathroom door not shutting (the catch in the door is stuck). 2) Velux window not shutting fully upstairs (we had a look at this, and it appears to be one of the catches/locking mechanisms and therefore you hear a lot of traffic at night/early mornings). 3) Water marks on the walls everywhere on the top floor and stairwell (it looks like this was caused due to a previous leak which was resolved, but the walls were never repainted). 4) CCTV cameras above the hot tub and at the front of the property (the irony is that there is a link on Sykes Cottages website about how CCTV should be disclosed to guests - it is NOT in the listing - 5) No hairdryer. 6) No bath mat (we had to use a towel). 7) Check in too late (2-3pm would have been better). 8) No blind/curtain on the window on the stairs. The hot tub was lovely, apart from one of the jets not working. The kitchen and downstairs area is well equipped. We would return again, if the issues above were resolved.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Daisy Cottage."

It was very clean and ideal for 2 people. The bed was comfy, and we slept really well, bath tub and shower were good, Kitchen is well stocked and the cottage was very warm and cosy. We wanted a quiet place and that is exactly what we got There were however some issues which we didn’t like: There is a camera outside above the hot tub. We still used it however we were very aware of being spied on potentially. There is no mention of this in the description, despite it being mentioned in the guest book at the cottage. The sofa is comfy but far too low so this was an issue for me. When we arrived the toilet roll had nearly finished luckily we bought our own, as there are no shops within walking distance. Bathroom door did not close properly so we used the small fire extinguisher to keep is closed when in use. No bath/shower mat- however this was rectified when we called and additional towels were delivered 2 days later, still no bath mat so we used a towel. There was obviously a water leak at the cottage as there were water marks on the wall as you went upstairs and on the bedroom wall, which wasn’t nice to look at. I would recommend the owners look at the feedback in the guest book. The camera is really off putting and had we had known that we would not have booked the cottage, or an explanation as to why it’s there would have been appreciated It’s a lovely cottage just a few tweaks would have made it perfect.

Lovely location on the coast road, with easy access to Lakes attractions and good selection of local pubs/restaurants. Hot tub was a great addition. Underfloor heating needed given the snow and hail but took a while to get going. Lovely and warm once it did. Comfortable bedroom and spacious living area. Couple of snags with facilities that could be rectified but wouldn’t stop us from returning: bathroom door handle loose and came off, too oven door came undone on one side and bedroom TV didn’t work. Upstairs walls looked like wallpaper paste has been melting/running. Overall a lovely little place in a good area with some nice touches- just a couple of details need attention

Sykes were very helpful in solving an issue at the Cottage. The cottage itself was below par however in the standard set, looking in need of some attention and care. Oven door could come off easily, hot tub not working to it’s full potential, couch uncomfortable and paint work and stains on most walls. .the hot tub! It was freezing cold. I tried ringing the contact person twice and got no response so I sent a text message and didn’t receive a reply for over two hours! He said he would be out first thing the next morning to look at it and also said that we could put the outside tap on with the hose attached and keep hold of it in the hot tub, let it overflow till desired temperature was reached but it was far too late by the time he replied so we decided to try this the next day which was an absolute disaster! The pipe was so short and kept flying off the tap. We were extremely disappointed. It was 11:30 before anyone turned up the next morning and he didn’t seem very interested and said it needed a part and would be back..hours later it still wasn’t working so I contacted the person again asking if they knew what time it would be fixed and he said he’d come out at 5:30 as they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. He came out and got it working but by this point we’d had two days without it and was only there for three days. I would really appreciate it if somebody could get back to me and take this seriously.

My partner is allergic to cats and on the first night had very itchy runny eyes and was constantly sneezing (luckily we had taken some allergy tablets with us) the smell was so bad that when we went to get our shopping in we brought a bottle of fabreeze to try and eliminate it. It did not eliminate it but made it more bearable until we went out and came back in again and it hit you again. Also one of the pillows on the bed was misshapen and as there were no spares had to use it. I dont know how someone that goes into clean the cottage doesn't smell the smell or dodnt notice the pillow when changing the bed as it is twisted. Like I said as I started the review the cottage itself I'd beautiful in a lovely location and the things above were such a shame as they are such an easy fix to sort out. Because of the smell and allergic reaction my partner had whilst there we would not return to daisy cottage which is a shame as if it wasmt for that we would definitely of rebooked to go again.

The cottage was more than equipped for our every need, the kitchen was fully equipped, having a washing machine on holiday and being able to keep on top of washing throughout the week was brilliant and meant I didn’t come home with several loads of washing. The 1st night we got there everything was as we had thought untill we had a few drinks and realised the half used toilet roll we had used throughout the day had no replacement roll and we had both had drinks by then and the closest shop was a CO.OP 6 miles away so in future 2 rolls would be better than 1 half used roll. The 2nd issue felt more pushy than anything on the the last day we were finishing off packing from our four days away by 09:55am there was a bloke at the back door smoking and pacing up and down the path on the phone to whom I can only think were the owners. Then at 10:00am knocked on the door and asked my Wife if we would be much longer we have other people coming. We thought this was a tad rude we believe there needs to be a 30 minute window from 10am to allow guests to leave comfortably rather than rushed out the door considering we had stopped four nights. The facilities are very good inside the cottage too, two good televisions, ample crockery, cutlery etc. The only downside as mentioned numerous times both in the visitors book and in the reviews on here is the sofa. Firstly Sykes show two sofas in their photographs of the property of which there are not, there is only one, their website needs updating to show this. Also the sofa that is there is seriously uncomfortable, you sit on it and sink almost to the floor and the struggle to get out of it. It made relaxing to watch the television impossible and was easier to lie on the bed and watch the TV in the bedroom. I would stay here again but only if the sofa was replaced and another one, or even an arm chair added. It's a shame because otherwise it was a quality cottage.

Just a few small niggles that I think should be looked into, firstly, the heating system seemed over complicated and the cottage was often too warm, clearer instructions on how to control the temperature would be useful. Secondly, we could have really have done with extra towels, one towel each just isn’t enough. A simple bath mat would be a good addition too to keep the bathroom floor dry after a shower. Finally we had an issue with the hot water, on our second morning we had no water for a shower and had to call the number provided, which is easier said than done with the low mobile signal at the cottage. We finally spoke to someone who was unsure what the issue was and suggested speaking to the maintenance worker who happened to be on site, it turned out the problem was low water pressure due to the maintenance worker filling up hot tubs at the other properties, this issue caused a significant delay in us getting out to enjoy our day and could have easily have been prevented by him knocking and asking us if we needed the water, especially given the fact it’s a problem they are aware of.

Pictures do not do this place justice. The cottage is raised high above road level and set back from the road so as to make the hot tub location completely private and secluded. The road is quiet most of the day and nearly unused after around 7pm so you can enjoy the quiet of the countryside out on the terrace or in the tub. The hot tub is at the side of the house sitting in the corner of a wheat field. The farmers across the road keep a few horses and cows but no bad smells while we were there. Great customer service, speed and responses from Sykes call centre support and from the owners. Cottage accurately described. Easy car journey with main roads all the way. A nice afternoon tea shop on a farm 2 minutes walk down the road. The cottage is about 30 minutes drive from the south of the lakes. Nearly all A roads leading to the bottom of Windermere. We drove to Coninston Water which is much quieter than Windermere. Not many supermarkets save for a big Booths (think Waitrose) and a small Tesco express both in Ulverston which is the nearest substantial town. Perfect for a peaceful romantic break.

The heating Athough we found the instructions in a draw and did a manual over ride, went up to 30 degrees every night which was impossible for sleeping even with the windows open blowing a gale. The window was smashed and the glass blinds were fixed in place presumably to hide them so we have no views from the bed or bath. The hotub was lovely and it was very clean

  • "Everything was great apart from the hot tub which did not work, even after someone came out to repair it."

This was not a massive problem but was disappointing as I had chosen the cottage based on it having a hot tub.

Had everything we needed. Highlight of the cottage has got to be the hot tub. Lovely spending time in it after a day walking the lakes :-)

About the location

Ulverston 5 miles.

On the coast looking across to Morecambe Bay is the small village of Aldingham, said to have once been a mile long but, as legend says, many of the early cottages were washed away by storms and tidal waves. Aldingham had the reputation of being a smugglers’ village, with brandy from France and tobacco from America supposedly hidden in the church crypt. The village is close to the spectacular Furness Abbey, and the ancient market town of Ulverston is just 5 miles away, and still has an authentic feel and community spirit. The town boasts a street market every Thursday and Saturday and many festivals throughout the year, including an amazing lantern procession in September and a superb Dickensian weekend on the last weekend of November. It is also the birthplace of Stan Laurel and home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world! With all the attractions of the Lake District National Park and the sandy beaches and good birdwatching of the Furness coast close by, this quiet and peaceful area has plenty to offer!
