  • "This is a charming and very comfortable 'home from home' for dog-lovers and walkers."

The cottage is generally well-equipped (lovely ceramics, too!) and warm. It's a peaceful and scenic spot, an easy drive from some of the most stunning landscapes in this area, but without the crowds tramping past your window. The lovely Sun Inn is just a few minutes walk away for a friendly drink and good food. We did not find the turnpike stair a problem (we are middle-aged and reasonably fit). A full box of matches to light the wood burner was the only thing missing! Definitely one of the loveliest places we've stayed.

  • "Lovely stay at Camellia Cottage, third time staying!"

Beautiful cottage and very homely. Crook is a wonderfully quiet place to stay away from the more busy areas of the Lake District but Bowness/Windermere/Kendal are all within an easy drive (eg 15 mins) and nearby pub is nice. Lovely walks around the lanes and surrounding area in Crook, saw lots of rabbits and deer! Especially in the evenings. Parking space is handy. Cottage very clean.

  • "Had a wonderful stay at Camellia Cottage, everything was as described perfectly."

The only thing I noticed and it didn’t affect us was that the freezer was frozen over (needs defrosting) We ate at the pub at the top of the road The Sun Inn every evening. Lovely walks, Windermere not too far drive away. Derwent Water and Borrowdale were stunning. We enjoyed Fell Foot park with our Spaniel.

  • "Fantastic property in a fantastic location."

Very quiet yet within reach of many popular areas/attractions & great walks nearby. Cottage was very clean, had all the amenities one needs and was very comfortable. There was also ample parking directly outside the premises and our dog enjoyed the walks and the enclosed/secure rear garden.

  • "The location of the cottage is quite remote and there was a problem with road closures when we visited it."

Because there isn’t a shop close by it would have been nice if the following had been in the cottage. A welcome pack with, milk, butter, bread & marmalade. This would be nice for people arriving late in the evening. Also shower gel would also be nice to have. The roads around the cottage are very narrow and visitors should be made aware of this. The parking area is quite small. These weren’t an issue for us as we came prepared. Some of the cooking pans could do with replacing and also the microwave. These suggestions would make the cottage a excellent place to stay.

  • "Stayed a few days in this lovely cottage."

It had everything we needed with comfortable chairs and bed. It is also in a good location not too far (in a car) from supermarkets in Kendal, a couple of decent pubs which were dog friendly and the attractions around Windermere. It was handy that there was a parking space outside. Pity someone was in it a couple of times. An alternative spot was nearby though, so not a huge issue. The spiral staircase was not an issue for us, but as the listing says, it is steep. It leads to a nicely spacious upstairs. I would definitely recommend Camellia Cottage if you are looking for somewhere quiet.

  • "My husband and I stayed at Camellia cottage with our dog in early October 23."

It was exactly as described and perfect for our needs. We cooked a few meals in and also ate at the local pub, the Sun Inn (walking distance, definitely recommend)- kitchen was well equipped, plenty of space in the fridge, appliances good. We had plenty of hot water and were toasty warm. Bathroom fabulous. All very comfortable throughout but as explained this is not suitable for someone with limited mobility due to spiral staircase and 2 different levels on the ground floor. We didn't need to use the beautiful log burner as the weather was reasonably kind. Location is fabulous if you want to be away from crowds but close enough to get into the main touristy spots. We got to Langdales for our usual walking favourites very easily but roads were quiet due to term time. Staveley is about 10 minutes away for closest convenience store, chemist etc. Ulverston is the other way and about 20 minutes or so for bigger shops such as Booths. We visited new places for the first time such as the Kentmere Valley- what a stunner. We will return to this cottage and that is a first for us- perfect for everything we like.

Across the road from cottage is a public footpath with a short walk which we did first thing to help our young energetic dog run off some steam - a lovely stream too. Everything you need is there. 4 bed but in spare room there is a kind of temporary bed which could be used but not too comfy so our 2 teens slept in same room on twin beds - they would have preferred their own room. Lovely clean fresh towels and sheets. Handy porch for drying and for dog to sleep in. Overall a great cosy base for us to explore the Lake District.

  • "Camellia Cottage is an absolute gem of a place and we will definitely be going back."

The cottage is in an ideal place if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle as you are in between Bowness and Kendal, which is a 10 minute drive. There is a pub that you can walk to which does food. The cottage itself has a lovely open plan layout with the chimney and log burner separating the kitchen and lounge as feature. Just remember to bring some kindling, firefighters and logs as these are not provided and we had to go out and buy some. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs all with duvet covers that are provided. The third bedroom has lots of books so, if your looking for a place to go/walk, there are OS maps and books with lots of information which we thought was very helpful. The bathroom is modern and looks brand new with a decent size bath and powerful shower. The spiral staircase is beautiful but, I would recommend you bring slippers as it is not as soft on your feet and also, the kitchen floor is stone. The cottage itself is well equipped with an oven, hob and microwave if you like your cooking and has lots of kitchen utensils. The garden itself is a stone courtyard so, if you have a dog like we did, we found she didn’t like to go to the toilet on it and she preferred the field opposite. The only thing I would say is that the check in times should be altered slightly as a 4pm check in seems too late considering you have paid for 5 days. Overall though, we had a pleasant stay and enjoyed the cottage 100% and we would recommend to friends and family.

A gate at the side of the courtyard garden would make the garden secure for a dog. The fireplace had no kindling and/or logs so when we, arrived we were unable to use the fire. We left the cottage with a fire ready to light and also left kindling and logs.

Good for dogs. We explored some new walks from here- first day 11 miles from the door & we also ventured further afield too. We visited Hadrians wall & Carlisle Castle for a nice change in addition to our beloved Lakeland walks. light & airy accommodation with nice big windows to view the abundance of pretty anemones in little gardens. Comfy sofas & good sized TV & reception with Netflix for movies after our days walking. Glad we brought slippers for the unique spiral staircase up to very comfy beds, beautiful linen & large modern bathroom with plenty of hot water for the three of us & room to dry our wet clothes after walking. Nice to sit & read in the upstairs spare third room if you don’t want to watch TV with the the others. Parking for our large saloon car at the door pleased my husband. , Double glass doors leading onto the large enclosed courtyard was nice on our first couple of warm days.Loved the large side porch entrance to hang our coats & store boots & dog stuff & the open plan kitchen/diner was nice to cook in & well equipped. A large under counter freezer was great for my weeks food delivery on our arrival & I loved using the high wall oven. A bonus was pleasant neighbours in the mill hamlet who gave us some tasty freshly picked home grown runner beans. We had a fab week here!

Did also some nice walks from the cottage in the surrounding countryside, with beautiful views. We enjoyed the lovely view onto the budding flowers in the garden from the diningspace. Our dog loved the rug in front of the fire place. Fantastic shower, ideal after long walks. We had some trouble with the radiator in the bathroom, did not always heat up. The elevation in the floor, the stone step, between living room and kitchen was a hazard. As the tiling is the same, it is hard to see there is a sudden step down. Thanks for a lovely stay!
