  • "A lovely, peaceful stay with excellent local connections I was made to feel incredibly welcome as soon as I arrived at Jubilee House."

    As someone with mobility challenges, I was so relieved to find they have a lift, which allowed me to get straight up to my room and settle in without any fuss. The room itself was absolutely beautiful, with wonderful views looking out over the garden, the sheep, and the river. The staff here are exceptionally friendly and helpful. It is a Fire Fighters Charity site, so you will see service users accessing the facilities like the gym. There is also a great games room, a spot that serves lunch, and a swimming pool (if you want to use the pool, just ask the staff and they will do their best to accommodate you). There are also several bungalows on site that look great for families, though you may need to check how to book those specifically. A vital safety note for families: The gardens are lovely to walk in, but please take heed if you are bringing children. The river is physically inaccessible down the bank, but a wayward child could easily wander toward it. Water always attracts children, but the water here is deep and leads to a beautiful, tumbling weir. Water is deadly, so constant supervision is an absolute must. If you sit quietly by the river instead, you might be lucky enough to spot the local heron or the grebes! (The sheep, however, are not into company—calling to them proves totally useless!) Location & Accessibility Tips: The location is a fantastic base for exploring. The 508 bus stops right on the main road and takes you straight into Penrith or out to Patterdale. The 106 bus will take you all the way to Kendal, making it easy to reach most of the Lake District. However, if you are a wheelchair or rollator user, please note that many of the nearby historic attractions are unfortunately inaccessible: Penrith Castle and Brougham Hall are not wheelchair friendly. King Arthur’s Round Table is accessed through a tight kissing gate, making it inaccessible for chairs. All in all, once I got used to how things worked, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. It is a peaceful, welcoming haven and I would certainly recommend it.

  • "What a find this place was."

    Jubilee House is lovely. Very comfortable. Beautiful setting so relaxing to walk along river or sit by in the grounds. Restaurant does lovely meals at 6pm Will definitely return again

  • "Everything we needed for a short break away."

    A clean and comfortable room with a lovely shower and comfy bed. Will book again if we return to this area.
