  • "Our family loved this big, roomy, friendly, old family home and its excellent position so close to lake but suffiently far from main road not to notice traffic noise."

The bedrooms are large with plenty of hanging space. Beds are all a little on hard side but otherwise all ok. Family bathroom is fine with big shower and lots of hot water and the bedroom with en-suite is also generous and comfortable. The Large lounge has good and comfortable seating enough for everyone and the satellite TV is great (but for size of room a bigger screen would be nice!). We also liked the big kitchen with its large farmhouse table, the boot room by the front door for shoes and coats and the utilty room with its big butler sink. The garden is smallish but well maintained grass and borders and we found our two spaniels were not tempted to go through the fence but would have liked a mesh between ground and first or second rail just for piece of mind and truly secure. Couple of niggles…the door handle catches on four or five of internal doors up and down need attention so they don’t “clack” when opening door (and waking rest of house at night), the family bathroom shower tray drains very slowly so the tray fills (flow was just enough to stop tray overflowing onto floor though), some of bedroom curtains have lost plastic hooks attaching curtain to rings (so closing them to prevent sunlight in morning quite tricky). The nice new frying pan won’t work on the induction hob (wrong type) but the older frying pan Teflon is coming off and consequently shouldn’t be used. Lounge and dinning room carpets are a bit stained in places and detract from what are nice rooms. One thing the website didn’t mention was the Lake District National Park visitor centre called Brockhole on Windermere which is only 100 yards from entrance to Ecclerigg Farm and marvellous attraction with activities for youngsters, trips on Windamere, restaurant and cafe at the old house, garden walks (perfect for dogs on leads) and wildlife…really lovely setting and entertaining.

It is so close to Windermere and Ambleside so amazing walks so close no need to spend ages in a car getting to places. 6 mins from Booths supermarket in Windermere which was very handy The garden was lovely - I imagine in the summer that would be such a treat. Great parking, easy to find, plenty of room. Real fire Overall I loved it and would definitely stay again. It’s not ‘fancy’ but for the Lakes and dogs it is just perfect and with modern bathroom and kitchens honestly I can’t recommend this place enough

  • "The property was perfect for our holiday needs, 4 adults and 3 children."

It was really warm and cosy, very spacious with all amenities and facilities you could wish for. As mentioned in the visitor book the shower does feel like it's going to overflow the cubicle but it doesn't. Bedding was comfortable, plenty of pillows and more than enough towels for us all for the week. In a perfect location to explore the area with the added bonus of a short stroll with free entry to the Brockhole visitor centre.

The family bathroom shower needs a blitz, black mould in shower.we were disappointed that we were not told that we needed to bring our own toilet paper, and there were no cleaning products to clean bench tops or anything. The house is well equipped otherwise and we enjoyed our stay there.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to read your review. Unfortunately, were unaware of your housekeeping issues during your stay so were unable to resolve these for you. This property is self-catering accommodation and so only a starter amount of toilet roll is provided. Lakelovers Owner Team Property Owner

The cottage was comfortable, and cosy. There was an issue with the shower which meant baths only, and I couldn't report this on arrival as it was the weekend. However, this didn't lessen the enjoyment of staying at Ecclerig.

Very pleased to discover that the sofa and chairs in the living room had been replaced. Great facilities from kitchen equipment to books, board games and dvds! There was an extremely strong smell of smoke from the log fire which the previous guests must have been using. Nothing that the owners could have done about it but it did have us all coughing a lot. Beds were extremely uncomfortable so the mattresses could do with being replaced. Apart from the smell of smoke and the beds, it was a really lovely stay in a great location.

  • "The cottage was beautiful."

Lots of space. Everything provided including plenty of crockery, cutlery, pans, etc… The one thing I would say is that there is only one double bed in the en suite bedroom, the rest of the rooms have single beds. At least one more double bed needed. The single beds were a little uncomfortable ( bit hard). Other than that, perfect. We had a very special Christmas here (Christmas tree and house decorated). Lovely touch.

We found the property with all its facilities very much to our liking and the proximity to Brock Hole, the lake and bus services couldn't have been much better. Given how spread around the UK we are, this was the first time we had managed to holiday together. It could not have worked out better.

  • "Firstly as this was a last minute booking for us, the service from Heart of the Lakes was excellent."

Having not been happy with our first holiday home and not having a positive start to our holiday, you quickly turned it around for us so thank you. What works well for Ecclerigg Old Farm is it's ideal location close to Ambleside and easy access to other popular places in area. Great walks on the doorstep. It is spacious, clean and tidy. The cloakroom and large fully equipped utility room, an ideal place to store coats, boots and walking gear. The best thing was the modern, clean kitchen well equipped and plenty of storage space. A very pretty enclosed garden safe for a dog. I really loved the window seats. What could do with improvement is the decor - it was obviously furnished in the 80s. It is looking a bit tired and needs some re-decoration and modernising. The sofa is old and wasn't very comfy. Bearing in mind this is a property for 8, there is only a small sofa and two armchairs. I didn't like the stag horns above the fireplace. . It is disappointing that there is no recycling at the property and if guests want to recycle they are advised to visit local recycling facilities. What would be useful is a child gate across the bottom of the stairs or a portable one that could be used to stop children and dogs going upstairs. We used chairs but I have stayed in properties with one and it makes a difference. We had a lovely week staying in this property and would definitely recommend it to others.

Thanks for your feedback - we will certainly see about getting a child gate installed at the bottom of the stairs - the layout of the airing cupboard at the top of the stairs prevents us fitting one at the top. As far as recycling is concerned, there is a notice on the board in the cloakroom which covers this. We have a commercial refuse collection service (as do all the holiday lets) which takes everything in one bin and the rubbish is sorted at the depot which handles it. Property Owner

The house was fairly simple but had everything we needed, especially the open fireplace and ready supply of logs. Only drawback was that getting out onto the main road sometimes took a while as that road was so busy .. even in November. I’d also say that 10am checkout is an hour earlier than I’m used to.

  • "The house was reasonably good for what we needed."

It was spacious, reasonably comfortable and in a good location. It was marred slightly by the previous people having left an overflowing bin (which, after the foxes had ripped apart, the owner himself came and cleared up), a lack of peeler so we had to buy another, missing usb plugs in the kitchen and bedrooms (couldn't work the radios otherwise), a mis-matched bin and lid in the kitchen so the lid fell off every time you opened it, TV controller which didn't work (one TV aerial wire had been ripped out of its socket and I had to re-connect it to get it working), and finally, the induction cooker hob failed three days before the end of our stay. To be fair, your service team managed to replace the hob with a temporary hob fairly quickly although unfortunately only one of the four rings worked properly. We can only assume you managed to replace with a new hob after we left.

  • "There were positives and negatives about Ecclerigg."

The problem with the washing machine was an issue and was not resolved whilst at Ecclerigg, and was handled really poorly. The cleaning of the house was questionable- a mask had been left on the floor by the previous renter and not removed. The splash backs in the kitchen were dirty and the fridge hadn’t been cleaned properly. Do I think it was cleaned to current Covid standard, no.

We would like to thank you for your feedback. The housekeeping manager is aware of your comments and is looking into these cleanliness issues to ensure that this does not happen again. We apologise that the cleaning was not up to our usual standard, particularly in these times and we really appreciate you informing us. We hope this does not deter you from visiting Ecclerigg Old Farm again. Property Owner

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
