  • "First class property in a great location, handy for Ambleside and Windermere and other local attractions and restaurants with a very helpful and welcoming host, lovely gardens and access via there jetty to Lake Windermere."

    Would strongly recommend it.

  • "We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing week in the beautiful Lake District."

Waterhead Cottage was perfectly situated being a 2 minute walk from the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole and a 30 minute walk from Waterhead in Ambleside. There was space to park our car right outside the cottage. Waterhead cottage was very well equipped with everything we could have wanted. The cottage was clean and tidy, and the bed was extremely comfortable. In the evenings we sat on the terrace by the lawn enjoying a glass of wine, warmed by the glow from the chiminea. The private area by the lake was also a great place to sit and take in the panoramic views and we were able to launch our canoe directly from the private jetty. Gas barbecues were available to us both at the cottage and by the lakeside. We wish to say a big thank you to our hosts John and Nicole, and their lovely family. We would love to stay in your fabulous cottage again some day. Richard and Miriam.

  • "Beautiful modern accommodation in lovely setting."

Everything catered for. Lovely place with a little private mooring area right on the lake to sit out and relax and enjoy the beautiful view on a nice day. Also nice patio seating area with bbq at the house although it was Winter so we didn’t use it. The property is just off the main road out of Windermere into Ambleside and a nice walking area. Would book again. Our only comment would be that we felt the 9 am time having to vacate is a little early, especially when checkin is not before 3 pm and 10 am would have been more appreciated. Otherwise a lovely stay and would recommend,

  • "Excellent property and location."

Smartly and simply furnished and well equipped. One area that does need attending is the bathroom grouting which needs scrubbing and some place re- grouting, otherwise no complaints.

  • "Listing didn't mention washing machine in the property."

Great that there is a vacuum cleaner, but it needs its filter cleaning. Also no toilet brush available. We had to ask for bath towels, which were promptly brought, but there were no bin liners for the kitchen, so we had to provide our own. The cottage is well equipped, but knives could be sharper. Although there is the facility to dock an iPod, nothing is available for those who use android. It would be good if the listing could mention what type of coffee pods will fit the machine. Overall we had a fabulous stay over Christmas and would thoroughly recommend. Just mentioning these things for improvement for future visitors.

  • "A fabulous cottage and perfect location between Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere."

The only reason I have not given 5 stars is because of the traffic noise which you get used to eventually.

  • "Hand sanitizer was empty."

Long black hairs everywhere. Inadequate door lock/latch to property. Loose window latch in bedroom. Broken toilet seat. Mouldy grout/sealant in bathroom. Loose shower head. Unhygienic toilet brush (Faeces remains from previous guests!). Supplied pots, pans cutlery weren’t completely clean (sticky frying pan, lipstick on drinks glasses etc). Furniture in lounge could be cleaned more regularly after recent covid problems as the arms on settees are showing signs of grease. On a whole, the cleaner or cleanliness at this property is clearly not being monitored prior to the arrival of guests who have spent a large amount of money for several days away celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary ( My wife and Me!)

  • "Myself, my partner and our young son booked Waterhead Cottage for last April, but moved it to this April due to the Pandemic."

The cottage was easy to find and in a perfect location between Ambleside and Windemere, both a short drive/bike ride away. The cottage itself has everything that you need, but the real highlight for us was the beautiful gardens and the private lake access. Unfortunately our son will be too old to book again next time we visit the Lakes, but if its just me & my partner we would definitely go back - I cant recommend it enough.

The owners are very welcoming and friendly and make you really feel at home. The grounds are very attractive, the icing on the cake being the lakeside seating area and private jetty. We were blessed with fantastic weather too which was an absolute bonus.

  • "Apart from a beautiful cottage and surroundings we were disappointed that we could not sit by the lake as advertised, all chairs and table etc."

were removed, although it was October we had several sunny days that could have been enjoyed by the lakeside

Thank you for your feedback and thank you so much for your review. We are happy you enjoyed your stay. With the water level rising significantly in the Winter, the furniture position is moved to avoid loss or damage. It is still available for your use, and can be moved to next to the Lake if required. • "Waterhead is a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting ."

Less than a 5 minute walk down a private lane takes you to private jetty and BBQ area which has everything you need for a bbq or just to sit and watch the boats on Windermere. Only disappointment was that there wasnt really anywhere suitable to place fishing rod rests and rods, so not a great place for fishing! I would highly recommend this cottage,it has everything you need for a lovely holiday in the Lakes.

  • "Just returned from a weeks holiday at Waterhead cottage and it was wonderful."

The cottage is very well equipped, tastefully furnished, light and airy and in a lovely position looking over the owners beautiful garden. We had our own private patio with seating, barbecue and heater. A short walk down the lane brought you to a private lakeside jetty with more seating and barbecue equipment. It was simply stunning. Have been to many holiday cottages over the years and this was one of the nicest. Will definitely return.
