  • "Directions were difficult to follow to find the property."

The property was clean and adequate with some essentials provided. being new to the area, some suggestions for good walks as a dog friendly lodging would have been helpful. During our stay it was extremely wet and we wanted to have the log burner on to dry out and warm up, but were told that logs were not provided. I felt this was a bit misleading when the property contained a log burner. The location was very quiet with beautiful surroundings and there was a lovely walk around the Esthwaite to the Boathouse café which was worth a visit. It is within walking distance of a couple of pubs too.

  • "The cottage was very disappointing."

The WC and cistern were loose and dangerous when we arrived - why had no one noticed it before? There was no plug or washing up bowl in the kitchen sink. The carpet was covered in thick dog hair - so the carpet had not been hoovered sufficiently. The fridge was broken and we had two replacements. Very little was supplied in the way of cleaning liquids cloths rubbish bags etc. The casing to the electric shower was loose! The only good thing about it is the location but even that will not make us return.

  • "This first floor cottage had everything we needed and the location was stunning."

A great shared garden space, a very handy laundry room and surprisingly good WiFi. It was comfortable, but probably in need so some modernisation in areas. Overall a great stay, thank you.

There was a lovely pub serving good food all within walking distance. Hilltop home of Beatrix Potter was walking distance too if you like Beatrix Potter. Lots of beautiful scenery and walks around the area.

  • "Was chilly during our stay & was unsure how storage heaters worked (instructions not clear)."

After one phone call, it was clearly explained & for additional comfort an electric heater was left for us. Excellent service. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was the note left on car - I do think the wording should be altered in the first instance.

Fantastic that we were able to take both our dogs and that other neighbors were in the same position. Allowed for a mutual understanding and relaxing week!

Lovely location and easy to arrive and depart. A couple of things weren’t fixed from previous groups but they didn’t spoil the holiday.

  • "Crummock at Esthwaite Farm is a lovely place."

The views over the fields and the lake are absolutely breathtaking. Oud children and the dog loved the big garden and fields around. Never have i seen my children play that much outside the house. Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top house is just around the corner wich stirred our childrens immagination even more. Definitly worth the drive out of Belgium for us. Hope to be back soon.

  • "We were disappointed with the cleanliness, the sofa and chair were that dirty I had to sit on a towel as I didn’t want my clothes to get dirty."

My son’s double bed was extremely uncomfortable and his under sheet was filthy. The living room carpet also needs cleaning. When we looked at the photos before we booked, the cottage looked lovely - never judge a book by its cover! The kitchen however was well equipped and clean.

Many thanks for your feedback, we have fed your comments back to the owner in order to maintain our property standards. Your views are as valued as your initial booking so that we can keep providing the best UK holiday experience. Property Owner

  • "Some simple things could be done to improve."

Valences on beds, not having them with box beds just looks un homely. Make sure batteries work if you are going to advertise a DVD player and sky etc. Two remotes no working batteries. Would be Nice to have a basket with some logs and kindling at least adequate for first night after arrival - there was one log, no kindling. We had to find the nearest coop. It was clean with well fitted kitchen though, just lacked that welcoming feel really.

  • "The property is beautifully positioned, with lovely views."

Sykes give the property a true description, so no disappointment at all. It was very clean with a good supply of kitchen equipment. The only small negative was that there was no remote to operate the blind within the sky light, in the 2nd bedroom. Hopefully this will soon be replaced. Would definately recommend this property. It was our second visit here & we love it.

  • "The directions on the paper from the Newby Bridge road turn off to the holiday cottage were a little vague."

I did have to phone Sykes offices to get the key code for the box which was not sent to me. Other than that, Crummock was absolutely fantastic, it was clean, as spacious as the advertisement had suggested and everything was welcoming right down to the coffee and tea sachets. The decor was in good repair and everything worked. There was ample linen and towels and dishwasher tablets which would be an oversight to a visitor. The bottle of milk on the doorstep the first morning was a brilliant touch. The gardens were well kept and mown regularly and our children and dog enjoyed playing there. The facilities such as washing machine and tumble dryer in the laundry room were very useful too. Every effort seems to have been made to welcome guests. The views were fantastic and the location ideal for our planned activities and visits. We would definitely book this again.

About the location

SAWREY

Hawkshead 2 miles.

The village of Sawrey is situated two miles from Hawkshead down the eastern side of Esthwaite Water, overlooked by the woods and tarns of Claife Heights. Sawrey consists of two separate hamlets - Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey - both with a cluster of picturesque cottages, tea rooms and pubs. Near Sawrey is famous for Hill Top, the 17th century farmhouse where Beatrix Potter wrote her acclaimed children's stories. Now a museum, owned and run by the National Trust, Hill Top is one of the most visited houses in the Lake District. Far Sawrey is the hamlet furthest away from Hawkshead and the nearest to the ferry point on Windermere. It offers a church and pub/restaurant with a beer garden. There are good walks in the area, including those to Claife Heights and in Grizedale Forest. It's also a great base for enjoying a wide variety of typical Lakeland pursuits - with watersports close at hand on Lake Windermere, fishing on nearby Esthwaite Water and, of course, fell walking.
