Fairfield Cottage

Had a wonderful stay at Fairfield.

We wanted peace and quiet so being a 10-15min walk outside the village was ideal. 5 min walk to a lovely pub. The accommodation was lovely and comfortable and we enjoyed our morning coffee on the bench looking out at the view every day. We all slept very well and great walks from the doorstep. Would love to come back one day. Thank you Fairfield!

We have stayed at Fairfield 5 or 6 times now and always find it clean, comfortable and a great location.

Lovely cottage with an amazing view of Grasmere.

Very clean and comfortable. Water in the family bathroom is rather brown and full of sediment. Filter was changed while we were there but this didn’t resolve the issue. The owner and Lake Lovers team were very speedily to help. Would stay again.

Fairfield Cottage provided a very comfortable base for our autumn holiday - it’s in a great location being just a very short walk into Grasmere but far enough away to feel you’re away from the crowds and with really lovely views from most windows.

The house is very well equipped for self catering, although the lounge would be a bit small with six adults (we were five) - an extra armchair would help and the leather sofas are not very cosy but some throws would sort that. We would have happily swapped the TV for a log burner, which we’re used to, but the house was warm. We didn’t get the weather to enjoy the outdoor seating but it would be lovely sitting outside, especially with the frequent visits from red squirrels. It’s also in a great location for making use of the excellent (every 20 min) bus service from opposite the Swan - we didn’t move our car all week until we went home but used the bus to get to Elterwater, Rydal, Ambleside and Keswick to enjoy visiting and walks in those area. We ate at the Swan Inn a couple of times - very reasonable for good food and we always enjoy a visit to the Badger Bar at Rydal before walking back over Loughrigg to Grasmere.

Fairfield Cottage is set in a quiet and beautiful location with lovely views.

Grasmere village is an easy ten minute stroll away. Having three bathrooms is a game changer with six adults - and happily there was plenty of hot water and great water pasture. The beds were comfortable (though the master bedroom mattress was too soft for my preference). A few basics, such as salt and pepper would have been nice. Overall, Fairfield Cottage was a good find and I would stay there again. Thank you!

Second stay here, lovely home in a beautiful location with stunning views from the front windows

Having stayed at this property many times we were most disappointed that on arrival at 1610 the cleaner was still in the process of cleaning and left at 1710.

The cleaner agreed with us, and said she would report, that the previous people had clearly been smoking/vaping in the property and we had to leave windows open for many hours. The property , as usual, warm and the kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils. There is plenty of hot water but with more than two occupants the water pressure is a problem. I have to say that the management of the property by Sykes/ Lakelovers was not good especially with being there for two weeks. I was offered a full mid stay clean when booking but said that would not be necessary but to change bed linen and replace towels. They did not leave clean towels in the bedroom that had been used! This is a lovely property with stunning views but a little bit dated and would benefit from some upgrades But the biggest problem is the hot water system if one person is taking a shower and someone as much as flushed a toilet the water went cold and to say that there’s 3 bathrooms in the house and it sleeps up to 6 it’s substandard.

THE WATER SYSTEM NEEDS UPGRADING URGENTLY. For the money you charge it’s not good enough

Best points - loved the location, the views, the beautiful comfortable bedrooms.

We didn't really use the living room as it was not very inviting on a cold winter day but would happily come back in the summer so we can sit outside and enjoy the views.

Very warm and clean and lookin forward to our next stay in 5 Weeks.

Please note that the only grocery store (Co-OP) in Grasmere is being refurbished and is closed until the end of Nov.

The cottage was beautiful, comfortable & very well equipped.

Views from the cottage are amazing. Lots of beautiful walks from the doorstep & handy bus stop at the end of the road. The Travellers rest pub along the road did excellent food. Our only problem was that the bins outside were overflowing, so we had nowhere to put our bin bags until bins were emptied on Wednesday. We had a fantastic family holiday & would certainly stay in your beautiful cottage whenever we visit the area again.

Lovely house and furnishings.

But Would have been nice to have dish soap for washing dishes in kitchen, more than one dishwasher pod ( we were 6 people for 3 days), more soap in bathrooms (2 of bathrooms had soap dispenser less than a quarter full (for two people each for three days). Also please supply salt and pepper and a roll of paper towels and set heat a bit higher snd for a bit longer. We felt cold in house in the afternoon. Otherwise, we enjoyed our visit.

Comfortable settees and beds. Slept well for the entire stay. A little hilly if you have a disibility.

Lovely comfy cottage in a great setting.

Great beds, views, outside areas and 10-15 mins stroll from Grasmere which is beautiful. Garden was stunning in May and the birdsong amazing. A great introduction to the Lakes for us first timers

We were so happy with the property and the location we have booked it for next year before we left!

It was so comfortable, ideal for 3 couples, everything we needed was there. So close to Grasmere, we walked in each evening for food, and so close to so so many walks. I would highly recommend this property.

Very comfortable , warm and well equipped cottage.

Perfect for a family or group of friends. Loved the ensuites and separate bathroom. Very comfy beds. Lovely peaceful location , gorgeous views .

This was the perfect base for our very rainy family Christmas break .

Clean and spacious and warm and cosy.Always a pleasure to return there after days out walking or site seeing. Cottage was very well equipped and we missed nothing at all! The Christmas hamper left for us by the owner was a lovely surprise. Thank you! We are definitely considering a Spring or Summer break there in the near future!

Loved the cottage, the views were amazing.

We were very comfortable and warm. And reasonably well equipped. The negatives are :- The downstairs toilet door wouldn't close due to the lock being broken. No hand-wash in any of the bathrooms, most unhygienic. No washing up liquid. These are small things that give the impression of miserlyness.

Everything was lovely, can't think of any negatives.

Beautiful house which is very comfortable and well equipped and the view from the house is amazing.

Good local facilities and exceptional walks. We would highly recommend staying at this property and we would return again.

Excellent view, privacy, walking distance to Grasmere, nice rooms and facilities.

Ver good location and a nice spacious cottage with great views.

A few minor issues need attention as follows: front porch coir matting carpet is soaking wet. Unable to leave boots there overnight as they got wet. Needs looking at. Would be good to have a trivet stand for hot pans as there is nowhere to put a hot pan other than back on the hob which is not very satisfactory when you're still trying to cook a meal.

We loved our stay.

The weather was very wet but this didn't detract from our enjoyment because Fairfield cottage is so cosy and comfortable to relax in. The cottage was really clean and spacious and exceeded our expectations. There are lovely views over fields towards the hills and it is only a gentle 15 minute walk into the centre of Grasmere, and less than a 5 minute walk to the nearby pub (The Swan).

It was lovely.

It was advertised with bike storage which didn't exist.

A great property in a superb location.

We had a wonderful time in the house which perfectly accommodated 4 adults and 2 young children. We visit The Lakes 3 or 4 times a year and mainly stay in Western Lakes. It made a change to explore the more southerly side and appreciate the range of mountains, lakes and tarns. Our walk up Fairfield from the house was delightful and Alcock tarn was a delight and great for a swim in June.

We enjoyed a 4-night stay at Fairfield Cottage in March.

The house was spacious, clean and comfortable for 5 adults and it had everything we could want or need. The views from the front were beautiful and a highlight of the holiday, we loved seeing deer and red squirrels in the garden! It was a great location to walk into Grasmere and drive to nearby areas. We can highly recommend and would happily book again, thank you.

The cottage was perfect for what we needed.

It was very comfortable, well equipped and provided plenty of room for all of us. The location is superb with Grasmere village and many walks within easy reach.

This was our third visit to Fairfield Cottage which is comfortable and central to The Lakes and ideally located for our fell walking needs.

Absolutely stunning location and first class facilities.

This cottage is a little gem of a place to base a visit to the lakes around. There really is everything you could ask for here (ok, maybe a hot tub for the evening - but that was just because we were basking in 30+ degrees). Such a shame the local pub was closed for renovations, though the walk into Grasmere takes no time at all and is thoroughly enjoyable on a warm summer’s evening. It’s a big thumbs-up from us. The cottage is large, very well appointed, well laid out, perfectly located and excellent value for money. Cannot recommended it highly enough and it will be our go to stay when we next visit the Lake District.

Lovely cottage, so well equipped, think the best since been to on terms of what was provided.

Definitely would go again. Fantastic views. Only negatives - would say twin bedroom less good, very musty in wardrobe and boiler in there a bit noisy. Dishwasher packed up, someone came to fix it but not done properly so had to call again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Fairfield Cottage.

We were a group of 3 adults and one child and it was great to have a bathroom for each adult. I could lay all my toiletries out in the main bathroom which was great. The beds were super comfy and cozy and there was plenty of room in the dining room and sitting room. There were just a few very minor things which might have just perfected our stay. It might have been good to have a couple of kitchen rolls in the kitchen and some soap/ shower gel in the bathrooms. Other than that I think this cottage is in a lovely location- with easy walking distance to Grasmere and is very comfortable indeed. I think we will book again for next year!

We thought the accommodation was excellent. Very clean, tidy, everything we needed was provided and the location is brilliant. We had 3 cars (as we arrived from 3 different places) so the parking was a bonus. Some years ago we stayed nearby, so we knew the area and that we could walk to the Traveller's Rest for a meal, which was great. Many thanks and we would highly recommend. Best regards, Clive

Fairfield Cottage was terrific.

Great location, just a short walk (about 10 mins) to the centre of Grasmere. Being on the sunny side of the valley, it had sun throughout the day and great views. We did a lot of walking from the property, almost completely off-road. The cottage was well equipped and the beds were comfy. The showers were good, with decent pressure and plenty of hot water. The kitchen was well equipped. Could have done with a few more cooking knives and some tongs, but that is me just being picky (constructive criticism). The cottage was as described and met all our expectations. There is plenty of outdoor space to enjoy a glass or two before going out for dinner in the village. We stay in the Lakes at least once a year and this cottage is in our top two at the moment.

All bathrooms smelt of drains, very unpleasant.

For a cottage for 6 people, the saucepans were small and inadequate. Not room for 6 people to sit in the lounge, only seats for 5. Surprised there was no milk in the cottage on arrival, especially for a 4* Gold Aware property.

Would definitely use the same cottage again. Just a pity it was not dog friendly.

Property was in excellent location and very well presented.

It had everything we needed and we would certainly stay there again.

Property was excellent but a couple of things- the lighting in the en-suite was inadequate in particular no mirror lights.

We tried to ring Sykes 15 times on the arrival day during opening hours but could not get through so very unhappy with this

Fabulous location, spacious and well equipped.

Only criticism is the standard of bedroom 3. Two of bedrooms are lovely, comfortable beds and modern en-suites. Third bedroom smells damp has 2 mismatched single beds with plastic mattress cover and poor one poorer quality duvet. Felt my son and partner had drawn the short straw! Other than that an excellent place to spend a walking holiday and would use it again.

Lovely cottage which provided plenty of space for 4 adults and a young child.

The layout of the cottage offered plenty of privacy to couples and numerous bathrooms. The setting of the house is ideal, being walking distance to grasmere, several pubs/restaurants and the public bus all while being surrounded by nature. The peaceful setting made for a good nights sleep. There is also the added bonus of the health club access which we enjoyed. Would definitely return to Fairfield Cottage. To improve the kitchen facilities further additional larger glasses, wine glasses, baking trays and a few more sharp knives could be supplied. Otherwise it’s a well equipped kitchen. A few more plug adapters could help, especially in bedrooms and lounge. Might also benefit from a regular deep clean in those hard to reach areas eg behind beds and cabinets.

We really were impressed with Fairfield Cottage.

Views were amazing. Just to mention garden area which is not enclosed. We had a toddler in our party so be aware that there is no grassy area to let off steam. Also we did have a problem with shower screen in main bathroom. After advising Lakelovers a maintenance man was quickly on the scene to sort. We really enjoyed our stay. Would certainly recommend Lakelovers and we will be back.

Mostly the cottage met our expectations.

In fact it was spotless but the third bedroom, which luckily we didn’t have to use, had a strange smell. Also the washing machine seemed to be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. All in all though it was a lovely little cottage with spectacular views.

The property is in a lovely position with beautiful views across the valley.

The accommodation is spacious and everything works properly. Some of the furniture is looking a little dated. There was very little information about the cottage unlike other Lakelovers properties we have stayed in apart from one A4 sheet stuck inside one of the kitchen cupboards. In overall terms however Fairfield makes a great base to explore and enjoy the Lakes.

A lovely cottage, very comfortable in a great position, nice walk into grasmere great views, everything and more was provided.

We would definitely stay here again , I would say that the outside area is not really suitable for a small child. Other than that it was fab.
