  • "The property was generally very good and well suited to holidaying in Lakeland."

The heating controls were haphazard and did not consistently work as advertised. The tiled floor downstairs was quite grubby, we mopped and cleaned it ourselves. The TV in the kitchen did not work as advertised. The mattresses in both double beds need replacing as they have both sunk significantly in the centre. All of that said, it was a very comfortable, well equipped and thought out cottage

  • "Hardly a cottage - more a large, traditionally built, Lakeland house."

Well designed and constructed, high-end fixtures & fittings and attractive finishes. Lots of space throughout, umpteen TV’s and practical flooring downstairs. WiFi and heating that worked, including very welcome under floor heating. It offers a substantial, outdoor entertainment area, parking for two or (at a squeeze) three cars and it’s just a short walk into Ambleside town centre. Turn right and right again out of the property, up the hill and you can walk up and along the fell footpath before dropping down into the town or head further up towards Troutbeck, if you so desire. As has been highlighted by others, for those with dogs/children, beware the opening into the road from the unfenced drive/garden area. Scissors still missing and a few gaps on the glassware front but otherwise, everything that you might need during your stay. Overall, a credit to the owners and those maintaining the property.

  • "This is a beautiful property and we had a lovely stay."

Just a couple of things would have made it perfect. A chair in the master bedroom for doing hair & makeup and it would have been great if the garden was secure so we could let our dog out without having to harness her up. Just a picket fence and gate along the parking area/steps and a gate at the front would have done the trick. Having said this we would definitely return but would bring a folding chair with us next time!

  • "Fisherbeck Farm cottage is a beautiful cottage in a lovely location."

The beds were lovely and comfortable and there was enough space for us all. I feel that the garden area could be fenced off for the safety for dogs/small children. The drains however seem blocked and you could see water spilling out over the patio area when the main shower was being used. There was a very unpleasant smell and it would put anyone off dining outside. Also on our last night, after we had cooked using the oven, it went off completely at around 11 PM when my son tried to use it again. I did write in the visitor book and hope it got fixed for the next people arriving. We stay in Ambleside every year and have stayed in many different cottages. We would definitely stay again, if these problems were resolved. We did however have a lovely holiday. Thank You

  • "We had a lovely stay at Fisherbeck farm cottage."

The house itself was near enough perfect for us as a family of 4. The only negative was that the garden was not enclosed so our dog was not able to be outside by himself. This would also be a problem if you had small children. Location is amazing and lots of beautiful walks from the cottage. Ambleside town only a 5 minute walk away. Would love to return someday if the garden was made dog friendly.

  • "This is our second visit, and we had a lovely week."

A couple of points for the owner: 1 Pendant light bulb not working over dining table Electric reclining Sofa not stable, feels as if it has become unclipped in the middle. It would be beneficial if the grass was fenced, so our dog could run freely, when it is let out. Still one of our favourite cottages in the lakes, will visit again one day.

The house is large, very clean and can easily accommodate 6 people. Plenty of kitten utensils, beds are very comfortable and everything is very new and top quality.Outside furniture is great and well thought out with a nice bbq.The only negative would be that the garden is not at all dog secure which caused a problem as could not let our dog in the garden without being on a lead. Also the steps down from parking area are unlit, unfortunately the lights do not work, so are very dark during the winter months. We had to use the light from mobiles to see. A handrail is needed as in the wet or icy weather they become slippery and dangerous. Apart from that it is a top quality house, nicely positioned just a few minutes walk from the centre and would highly recommend and would like to return.

Thank you we really enjoyed our stay. The shrubs in the parking area need cutting back as they have become very intrusive and make it difficult to get around the car if two are present. Funny smell in the ensuite shower room. Could be the shower drain? A man came to sort out something while we were there, but he was not sure what he had come to do. Suggest that if he comes again he needs more specific instructions.

It’s very spacious with huge bedrooms for this area. All the fixtures & fittings are high end. We had an absolutely amazing week in the property and will be back. It’s a great location for exploring the walks, pubs & restaurants of Ambleside. The only small complaint was the strong drain smell from the en-suite.

  • "A couple of issues: 1."

an unpleasant "drain" smell in the en suite to the master bedroom needs to be investigated 2. it would be beneficial if there was a gate installed adjacent to the front door ( to stop small children or dogs running into the lane) 3 a facility to securely store bicycles?

  • "The cottage was immaculate but unfortunately it was a let down as items we would have expected to find were missing."

No weighing scales, as I am Gluten Free this item is a must for me. Not happy with the leather sofas as they were uncomfortable and the one in the dining area had a really bad smell. Views were non existent as a large house was in the way out front and at the back was a grotty barn. Apart from the above it was in a very lovely spot as it was easy to get into Ambleside & Windermere so it wasn't all bad.

Excellent facility's and a great location and we were very lucky with the perfect weather. We would definitely stay again. My only other feedback would to make some of the garden area more secure for dogs as we had our dog with us. He didn't go out onto the street but we could not relax fully in the garden as we had to keep our eye on him. Our dog did enjoy the space in the kitchen/dining area to play though.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay in this lovely, spacious and well equipped cottage."

Great location within easy walking distance of everything Ambleside has to offer. Great outside space with plenty of seating to enjoy the evening sunshine. Our only gripe really was one expressed by several others in their feedback - the cottage just wasn’t very clean on arrival. It was clear some cleaning had been done - floors, etc., but the doors of the kitchen cupboards hadn’t been cleaned, the fridge was quite dirty inside, etc.,. Understand the issues with finding staff, but the same comments shouldn’t be coming up time and time again from guests.

1.No towels had been left in 1 of the double bedrooms -several phone calls were needed to get them on the Monday after our arrival. 2. By then ,we had discovered a damaged bedside lamp which had very sharp edges on the broken spherical lampshade-Cleaner’s should have picked this up. To be fair, the maintenance man did his best to supply the towels & must have contacted the owner who delivered 2 replacement bedside lamps on Thursday with other items that we had nothing to do with but also brought a bottle of Prosecco as recompense(very generous & not really necessary). It is a lovely cottage ,sensibly situated with great outdoor space & we really enjoyed our stay there.(a few small whisky ,breakfast juice type glasses would be a sensible addition)

Generally everything is to a high specification but there are a few items I’ve listed below which would improve the comfort and all round general experience which we thought you might like to consider………. Generally there is not enough kitchen worktop space and we were reluctant to use the glass top table for obvious reasons. Not enough microwave containers. The base for the steamers was missing. No large casserole for a family sized meal. Not enough storage space in bathrooms to store toiletries. Dressing table needed in main bedroom. Mirrors needed within hairdryer reach of power sockets in all bedrooms. Not enough Utility room hanging space or shelving for walking gear. Shower door in 2nd double room wouldn’t fold in - makes it difficult to run a bath without getting in the bath first. Only one hook on family bathroom door - 2 is useful for a bathroom that’s not en suite No hand towel for the kitchen No wooden spoons in kitchen

Situated in a superb spot for walking and shopping alike. Every detail was thought of. We would love to revisit. The only thing I would mention is that the en suite shower drain was very slow, turned shower off whilst it drained the water away. We noticed a few cobwebs but realise that certain jobs are done at different periods over time.

Thanks for your feedback. Really glad that you enjoyed your stay. I was up at the property last week putting Xmas decorations up, resolved the shower drain (clogged with hair), and did a deep clean. I also noticed some scuffed paintwork that will be re-paintex straight after New Year. Property Owner

One suggested improvement to make it even better would be to enclose the patio/garden so dogs and small children don’t need to be constantly supervised. • "Although we were pleased with the cottage there are three improvements which could be made."

Cleaning facilities for the BBQ. Glass tables are not ideal for holiday accomodation. Every member of the party managed to bump into the coffee table. A property for use by children and dogs should really have a totally enclosed garden. In this instance that could be achieved with a gate near the front door, a small fence at the top of the lawn and a gate at the top of the back steps.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
