  • "A delightful cottage, ideal for us to explore the lakes by foot and road."

We particularly welcomed the communication on the first day and the package you left for us. The house was nice and warm; you could probably get a way with it being a couple of degrees cooler to save a little on bills. The kitchen is well equipped and the new oven was very efficient. Thank you for such a great stay.

The welcome gifts were much appreciated. Good views of Loughrigg from the front and nice watching the birds, sheep, cockerel and deer out the back. Great selection of books and games. Location ideal for us with a 10 min walk into town.

Very comfortable and clean with plenty of space and comfortable beds and furniture. We did have a visiting cockerel over the weekend, but he did let us have a lie in until around 8am.

  • "No complaints whatsoever, that said, just the one ‘tiny’ thing, speaking as a retired gas/oil heating engineer that is, with the lounge being open plan, the main radiator could maybe do with being updated to a more efficient model."

I found the whole house very acceptable, warmth wise, so just a little niggle really. We always recommended updating so maybe I’m still in gas fitter mode? Would seriously recommend this property to anyone requiring a very good, comfy and spacious place to stay. Excellent mattress’s too.

Thank you for your great review. Re the lounge radiator, our heating engineer has recently fitted a new boiler and is intending to update the radiator. Peter and Avril Property Owner

A wonderful, well-equipped and comfortable property in a quiet location within easy reach of Ambleside's amenities. If you are interested in wildlife, there is plenty to be seen from the kitchen window. Numerous birds on the peanut feeder. We also saw badger and a buzzard being harried by two crows in the field beyond the garden. Many thanks to the owners for making our stay special.

We met the owners too who are lovely people and I’ve told them we will be definitely back soon. Thank you to everyone, Regards the Day family.

Perfect central location for walking, eating and drinking. Accommodation was fabulously appointed, the owners had thought of everything. Lovely welcome pack and amazing wildlife visiting the property, all sorts of birds for enthusiasts, a deer and three regular badgers a real bonus! We were extremely comfortable and the addition of an EV charger made it a stand out. We very much hope to be back in 2024.

This was the 9th time we have booked a week there, and hopefully it won't be long before our 10th visit. We love everything about the cottage - it is cozy, spotlessly clean, and above all a very relaxing place to come back to every evening. It is in a brilliant location, is extremely quiet, and has fantastic views of the fells from upstairs. It is a credit to the owners, and we never rent anywhere else in the Lake District these days.

About the location

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
