Church Farm Cottage

Had a lovely stay at the cottage, all was as described online and more.

All the little homely touches were there. Bed was large and comfortable, very peaceful no noise and two lovely nights sleep. Surroundings were nice next to the river and near to the church and lovely neighbours.

Jill met us when we arrived and she was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

The accommodation is part of a working farm next to a church, which was used in the recent series "All Creatures Great and Small." Its situated in a picturesque location next to a river and at the foot of hills surrounded with fields. Very quite except for of birds and running water and occasional cows mooing and dogs barking, very idyllic. The accommodation is perfect for a couple, a lounge with real fire, for when its cold, and a fully fitted kitchen with everything you could need. Upstairs is the bathroom with a shower over the bath and a lovely large bedroom. As the house is very old everything creaks and is wonky, but that's what makes it special.

This cottage is extremely comfortable to stay in.

It has everything you would need. The owners Gill and John have furnished the cottage with beautiful decor right down to the mugs. Great area for walkers. With a very handy pub across the bridge

Holiday perfection.

The cottage was extremely well equipped. Clean and comfortable. The bed was more comfortable than ours at home, if I could have packed it away with us I would have done! The hosts Gill and John were very friendly and helpful. A nice welcome tray with Yorkshire tea and chocolate brownies awaited us. Milk and fresh eggs were also left for us on arrival. It's a very spacious cottage. Beautiful location for us as we enjoy hiking in the area and enjoyed the remoteness, so be aware there aren't any local shops for daily essentials. Water was nice and hot. Towels and bedding supplied. 10/10

A comfortable and spacious historic cottage, nestled in the valley just across the bridge from The George pub [very much enjoyed their pie night].

Plenty of walks from the door, as well as further afield. Also a great place to rest and watch the rain sweeping down the valley when the weather was inclement. Well equipped, including a fantastic selection of generously sized mugs in lovely designs. Toiletries too, which few cottages bother with. Grateful for the generous welcome treats, including eggs from their own hens - delicious.

A most well equipped and cosy, comfortable cottage in a stunning location.

We were made very welcome by Gill who was friendly and helpful during our stay. Was lovely to come back to the cottage after our walks and relax in the garden looking across at the stunning scenery. We were so blessed with gorgeous sun and blue skies for the week of our stay. April is a fantastic time to visit the dales with fresh greenery, wild flowers in the meadows and woods and new born lambs in the fields. Would definitely recommend this 5 star accommodation.

It was very well equipped and ideally located for some stunning walks. I would highly recommend.

We had an excellent staying at Church Farm Cottage in beautiful Hubberholme.

Initially it was quite chilly, with Storm Dave about, but gradually it became very sunny and warm. The glorious weather really showcased this stunning area. We even managed to sit outside and gaze at the view in the afternoon on two or three occasions. Gill and John are fantastic hosts - very kind, helpful and generous but not at all intrusive. We really appreciated their local knowledge and very much enjoyed our time here. We were very organised with taking everything necessary with us. We shopped at Booths on our way up. The freezer is a good size and very handy with no local shop. The George is a super pub and only a minute or two away. We were very happy in the comfortable cottage and became more and more relaxed as the week progressed. Spring and lambing time is a wonderful time to be here. The wildlife is wonderful. So much to see and enjoy and it is all so joyous and uplifting.

Delightful small cottage set on a working farm in a beautiful area of The Dales.

We found Church Farm Cottage to be very comfortable and well equipped, in a beautiful situation and we had a lovely relaxing week.

Gill had kindly left us some wine, tea bags, coffee pods and brownies, but be sure to take essentials such as milk and bread with you, as the nearest shop is 11 miles away, and the nearest large supermarket 20 miles/40 minutes away, in Skipton. We enjoyed lovely walks from the door, and ate in the George, just over the bridge four times during our stay- be sure not to miss the Sunday roast and Monday Pie Night. We certainly hope to return.

Gill and John were excellent hosts and the cottage was excellent with large but cosy rooms, ideal for relaxing after long walks and days out visiting the local attractions.

The added advantage of the George Inn 100 yards away with excellent food and a great host was also welcome. When we were looking for a property to stay at in the Dales, having read A A Wainwright's A Pennine Journey which he did in 1938, describes Hubberholme as delightful and he was loth to forsake its charms. We had to come and stay! Hope to return soon.

This is our third time stay in the cottage and we loved every minute of it,it is such a lovely area and we are booking again for next year.

This is a beautiful cottage, tucked away in the dales.

Beautifully appointed and clean with lovely things. We walked in to homemade cake and mugs left out for tea, with fresh eggs in the fridge. A stunning place to walk for landscapes and wildlife. Friendly people, lovely pubs. We hope to go back! Thank you

We enjoyed a great week in this well equipped and comfortable cottage in a beautiful part of the Dales.

The owners are friendly, very helpful and left a much enjoyed welcome pack! Excellent walking and cycling is available from the door with further options only slightly further afield. Having a pub practically next door is a real bonus, although it is very food oriented during the serving times. Nearby food shopping options are limited in terms what they stock, Grassington is probably the nearest opton for a mini-mart, but even there is sadly lacking such as bakers and butchers (unless we missed them!).

The whole property was clean, comfortable and very well equipped.

The kitchen in particular had everything you might need for cooking and some thoughtful welcome wine, local eggs, biscuits, tea bags as gifts were a lovely touch. Gill was an excellent host, and very helpful. One minor issue with the shower water pressure was due to a timing clash with the farm just having used up some water and only happened once. A note that there isn’t really a private garden - you are situated on a working farm with a kennel and lambing shed right outside the kitchen - the patch of garden allocated had a car parked on it for two days, so this detail needs to be removed. Also, The George Inn has strict opening times but the food is delicious (huge portions!) - booking strongly advised.

A beautiful, quirky and fabulous cottage in the most glorious, quiet and unspoiled area of the Yorkshire Dales.

Warm, comfortable, cosy and well equipped. Gill and John, who live on the working farm next door, are helpful, generous, kind, yet not at all intrusive. The welcome hamper was absolutely splendid and the very local pub excellent. The church next door - the other way - is a wonderful old building with many really fascinating features. It is a beautiful old cottage with modern comforts and many original features retained. We love it and we would return in a heartbeat. It suits us perfectly. We had a fantastic week of walking, exploring, birdwatching and relaxing. There are buses from Buckden - about 30 minutes on foot - to Hawes (Sunday) and Grassington. The bus service is infrequent but reliable. Thank you for really a great week.

The accommodation at Church Farm Cottage was of a very high standard.

The cottage has been renovated to provide a comfortable living space, but with lovely traditional features. Also much appreciated was Mrs Huck's welcome hamper! A great stay in a lovely setting.

As always, as we’ve been here several times now, the property is just perfect for our needs.

On a working farm with own parking for the cottage. Well equipped cottage so you don't have to worry about anything. Pub 1 minute walk away and other neighbouring pubs near by. We booked this in January 2023 before a prolonged stay in hospital for me which resulted in limited mobility!

However, we coped! A banister on the first 5 stairs would thus have been helpful as would a loo on the ground floor but also a better performing shower in the bathroom is essential. A note accompanying the complimentary goodies for guests would also be advisable in future. A comfy bed indoors and beautiful scenery outdoors - what more could you ask for?

So well equipped you have everything you need. Beautiful peaceful setting. It was so nice to have tea , cake and biscuits for our arrival. So many little extras makes such a difference. Will definitely return.

A lovely cottage which was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed.

We did find it very difficult to regulate the temperature of the shower. It either came out cold or boiling hot. We resorted to having very quick showers!

For us, an idyllic location in Upper Wharfedale. 30 yards from the river, on a working farm & barely 100 yards to the pub. Great walking options in every direction. Access, parking etc very easy with the helpful owners next door. We found nothing lacking in the cottage.

We loved staying at Church Farm Cottage!

It was the perfect spot, in the most beautiful area, of all the places we stayed on our trip. Gill and John were kind and hospitable, and the basket of food much appreciated. The cottage is decorated so nicely, the bed is comfortable, the shower is hot, and all was just perfect. We can't say enough good things - all in all a wonderful memory!

Great location for walks around the valley and access to other areas. River outside is lovely. Cottage itself was amazing, very well converted farm building with plenty of modern necessities. Will definitely be a priority if we’re in the area again.

We're keen walkers & were so pleased to find that we hardly needed the car -- the walks from the door are great. The fact that there's a lovely old pub within a minute's walk was the icing on the cake. We'll certainly return at some point.

Step out the front door and you can walk up into the hills, or cross the bridge to the superb George Inn. Fantastic.

Church Farm Cottage really is a hidden gem!

In idyllic countryside beside a bubbling stream (or is it “beck” in this part of the world?) with church and pub for company, Beautifully warm and cosy, tastefully renovated yet with none of the original features lost. Modern bathroom (slight issue with water pressure on the shower but absolutely not a “problem”!) and fully equipped kitchen with delightful Emma Bridgewater crockery. The home baked cakes and complimentary wine, beer and cheese were a lovely bonus - thank you! Would return in a heartbeat!

It was a good base for exploring the area on foot. The George is a welcoming pub with a good choice of meals. The White Lion in Cray also has a good menu for lunch and evening meals. Thank you, Gill, for the fruit cake, cheese and wine. We really enjoyed our stay at Church Farm Cottage.

This was a delightful cottage, extremely well equipped and a lot of thought had been given to the presentation of the furnishings, kitchenware etc….

.The wood burning stove made it all feel very cosy…….after some very wet days and walks up and down the valleys! (Our only worry was drying wet coats and boots just inside the front door, although the clothes aired was useful)

Church farm cottage is in a beautiful location in upper Wharfdale.

Wonderful walks are available from the doorstep and there is plenty of local wildlife to watch. On our first day I was delighted to see a hare run across the front lawn. The cottage was clean and comfortable and Gill had left us a generous welcome hamper, which we really appreciated. The cottage has been nicely modernised without losing its quirkiness. It is only a couple of minutes stroll to the George Inn, which does delicious meals. We would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a relaxing break in the beautiful Yorkshire Dale's.

Good walks from the doorstep and a friendly pub nearby with good food. Gill the owner is really friendly and left some very tasty treats, tea coffee and wine, the attention to detail is excellent. The cottage is furnished to a high standard, very cosy and warm. There is a very well equipped kitchen, one of the nicest places we have stayed.

The cottage could not have been better.

It met our needs exactly and was convenient for walking as well as two nearby pubs - one in the hamlet and one just a 20 minute walk away. Gill was a very good host - friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely welcome pack of goodies and the one small problem of the water heater was soon sorted - our fault anyway! We will certainly want to return.

Church Farm Cottage was perfect for a relaxing break.

The property was really well equipped; everything you could need including wood for the wood burner. Being part of a working farm was part of its charm. We are very likely to stay again in this beautiful part of Yorkshire.

Large bedroom and living room. Great views from any of the rooms with a lovely pub across the bridge. Plenty of history and walking from the front door. River Wharfe is about 20 yards away - what more could you ask for? Gill is lovely and friendly, we will be coming back again.

Gill is a wonderful host. The location is superb - peaceful and fabulous walking from the door. The George serves great food in a friendly atmosphere - Ed calls everyone by their first name! We had a lovely short break while I was walking the Dales Way using the cottage as a base, but will be back to stay longer. Best welcome pack ever!!!!

9am is way too early to check out and 5pm check in is way too late.

That’s 2 days pretty much of a 3 night stay. Taking the proverbial with “covid” is what Sykes cottages are doing, there’s absolutely no need to leave at 9am, completely ruins the last day.

Church Farm Cottage is just wonderful.

Situated in a beautiful peaceful hamlet with a brilliant pub serving award winning food. The Dales Way runs through the hamlet making it easy to walk without taking the car anywhere . Hawes is a short drive away for shopping and an excellent museum of Yorkshire life.

The property was warm, cosy and welcoming.

Welcome hamper much appreciated with wine, beer, tea bags, milk, cheese, cake and scones. The cottage is very well equipped with good quality crockery, bedding and towels. There was a plentiful supply of loo rolls, kitchen roll and all manner of cleaning products and toiletries. There are lovely walks from the cottage door in both directions up and down the river and up over the hills. There is a lovely pub opposite serving nice meals, The cottage description does point out that there are some low doorways. We found them OK apart from the one leading into the bathroom and we had two ‘accidents’ and partner cut his head open twice. Apart from that everything else was fine.

This is our second time here within a year - it was wonderful the first time and then again this time.

The setting was perfect for us - quiet and away from the hustle and bustle but with walks from the door and the excellent George Inn a minute walk away with their great food and drink you do not need much else.

Church Farm cottage was the perfect base for our week in the Yorkshire Dales.

Really cosy and warm and with everything we needed. Gill had left the lights on for our late arrival because of storm Eunice, which was a lovely thing to do. There was milk,tea, wine, cheese and cake provided so we could make the all important cup of tea and relax. The village of Hubberholme is very tranquil with the river Wharfe being the only noise. The George pub just over the bridge were very hospitable and we ate out there 3 times during the week. We enjoyed loads of walks and runs from our doorstep but there were other delightful villages to explore less than half an hour's drive away. We would highly recommend a stay here.

Church Farm Cottage is a wonderful and relaxing place to stay, away from all the hustle and bustle.

It's a lovely cottage with everything you could possibly need including a huge, comfortable bed. We particularly enjoyed relaxing each evening in front of the log burning stove after a good day's walk. Looking forward to a return visit.

Lovely little place.

Very quiet and peaceful and thoughtful welcome gifts. Super comfy bed and heating good enough not to need open fire. Only down side is you will bang your head using bathroom if around 6ft or taller and we had daily wasp visitors from somewhere which was a bit stressful but only as I am allergic to wasp stings (caught and released several throughout the week). Aside from that a nice little hideaway with a great food pub close by Sean & Sam from Southampton

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Church Farm Cottage.

It was definitely an 'away from it all' location, but great for walking, and with a super pub just across the way. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable, the bed especially so. We had no phone signal (unsurprisingly) but a really good internet connection compensated for that. We would definitely go back.

Everything you need for your stay is provided, just bring yourself and food. We would the George Inn across the river but recommend booking meals in advance, food was fantastic. Good Central location to explore the Yorkshire Dales.

What a fantastic place!

The lounge was so cosy it was difficult to leave and very welcome to return to, the bed was comfortable and huge! The kitchen is very well equipped and we had everything we needed to feel that we were at home. I can only echo other reviewers in terms of the generosity of the welcome hamper. Gill does an amazing job and the cottage is well located for local walking routes as well as the hop over the bridge to the amazing George Inn which does excellent lunches and evening meals. Special mention for Lucy’s brownies which we’re waiting for us on arrival. So good we bought more to take home! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Church Farm Cottage and would welcome the opportunity to return.

There really wasn’t anything we could have wished for that wasn’t there, including generous supplies of basics such as toilet roll and cleaner. There was even ice in the freezer for the local gin we’d picked up en route! It was spotlessly clean and we were able to settle straight in. The location was perfect for us too. Tucked away by the river with just the farm, the pub and the church for company. We can highly recommend The George Inn where we had a delicious Sunday roast and followed that up by returning for Pie Night the next evening. We booked ahead of our holiday for these meals - well worth doing as it is a small pub. I’d also recommend sticking your head in the door of the church - it is a beautiful building. The star of the show, of course, is Wharfedale. We walked from the door two days, though could have done do every day with a different route if we’d so chosen. It’s a stunning dale with pubs all along your route should you need refreshment! We were close enough to Wensleydale to enjoy walks there too. We would certainly recommend this cottage to like-minded holiday makers who enjoys good walks and a bit of pottering about.

This is a lovely, very well equipped cottage.

Lots of low doors which my tall husband learnt to duck through after a few days! A very good location for walking in upper Wharfedale. Beautiful views back and front. We enjoyed watching the birds coming to the feeders. The welcome hamper is very generous.

While the experience with Sykes was very good the thing that made this holiday was the property and the friendliness of the owner who lives next door.

While happy to give us space there was a lot done behind the scenes to make the cottage a home from home in a stunning location. We highly recommend it as a place to relax (or walk a lot!).

The cottage was excellent.

Gill, the landlady, was very helpful and friendly, the welcome pack was superb and the cottage is authentic but furnished with quality furniture and accessories - so many Emma Bridgwater mugs!! The location is fantastic, we walked out of the front door straight onto footpaths in the wonderful countryside. The river Wharfe is running opposite providing a soothing backdrop along with the sounb of lambs and cows in the barns. The George Inn just across the bridge serves great food and drink for when you don't wish to cook, and in colder times a log burner already to go - what more could you want.

The holiday was transferred from last year .

I was worried about going away but Gill and her family made us really welcome. The cottage was lovely and Gill supplied everything you would need for your stay , even left a hamper with wine etc in . The cottage is in a very secluded spot but there are amazing walks and a pub just across the rd and so many amazing roads to drive to get to pretty villages

I feel I am well qualified to give an opinion on any self catering property, having been self catering for over 50 years & having managed our Visitor Centre for nearly 20 years, which required inspecting all properties on our books.

Church Farm Cottage was probably the best self catering establishment we have experienced. Gill, the owner is wonderful & the welcome hamper amazing. The cottage is situated in an ideal position on the Dales Way, & there is no need to take the car out to enjoy some beautiful walks. The cottage was immaculate & we were particularly delighted with the warmth of the cottage, the masses of hot water and the large bathroom towels. Gill had provided everything we needed for a great holiday. I always come equipped with a quantity of items which are frequently missing. We have already booked for a return visit next year, when I know we won’t need to bring so many additional items. This is only the second time in 50+ years that we have returned to the same place. If it wasn’t a seven hour journey, we would be visiting more frequently.

What a wonderful, welcoming, warm place to stay.

Gill and the family really looked after us across our stay in this beautiful cottage. The bed is incredibly comfortable and plenty of room to relax in the living area. Immaculately clean with plenty of supplies and good selection of kitchen utensils etc. Location is great for walking straight out of the door and pub just over the road. With many wonderful walks on your doorstep and a fabulous pub a minutes walk away what more could you want. This was a gem of a cottage, perfectly situated near the river, a beautiful church and a first class pub.

We were greeted with an array of lovely Yorkshire treats and the cottage far exceeded our expectations. It was an idyllic retreat from which to explore on foot and bike. We will be returning and recommending to others for sure.

Overall Church Farm Cottage was a very pleasant, spacious and well equipped base from which to enjoy this wonderful area.

As well as the advertised facilities (including excellent fast broadband), we very much appreciated Mrs Huck's personal attention to detail during our stay, making sure we were comfortable, with lovely welcoming treats. In the light of covid restrictions which we were having to work around to meet up with family, we were grateful for the provision of extra outdoor seating, blankets, and a cheminee with a plentiful supply of wood, which was pivotal for the success of our holiday. Its location close to the George is another big plus (Monday evening's pie night was a particular highlight!) This is a delightful property and we would certainly consider booking it again.

Accessed via single track roads, in the most delightful, quiet hamlet, at the head of Wharfdale.

It was spotlessly clean throughout and very cosy with everything needed for a perfect stay in such a beautiful place. Gill was the perfect host. A wonderful few days of walking and relaxing which we hope to repeat soon.

Perfect location

what a beautiful, perfect stay.

The location is right in the centre of the Dales, not far from stunning walks and attractions (although due to storm Dennis we cooped up inside enjoying the log fire and playing games for the most part). The cottage is decorated just as you would imagine a quaint Dales accommodation to look like. All the expected amenities are provided and more... a goody bag of edibles upon arrival, soaps, firewood and games. Although on a working farm and joined to the owner's property, we felt totally secluded and in our own little world. A perfect valentines break.

A really beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Sparklingly clean, fabulously (and very tastefully) well-equipped, extremely comfortable, warm and cosy. An amazing cottage. Very welcoming and generous host - the welcome hamper was the best we have ever seen. Thank you. Gill was on hand if we needed anything but otherwise left us to our own devices. Just brilliant all round. We had a wonderful week of walking and exploring the beautiful local area. We hope to return soon.

We had a wonderful stay at this excellent cottage which is part of the Church Farm complex.

Gill, the owner, is very welcoming and indeed left a welcome hamper for us which had loads of local produce. The cottage is well equipped with a very well appointed kitchen. The lounge is very large and cosy with a wood burning stove albeit the property is well heated by electric heaters. The bedroom above the lounge is also large with a very comfortable bed. Plenty of storage space. The WiFi is very good. A parking spot is located outside the front door. Hubberholme is a small hamlet with the river running down the dale and close by. We understand that The George pub 5 mins away is excellent but it was closed for January when we were staying. Gill has great local knowledge and has many recommendations if you don't know the area. We will be back so long as it isn't fully booked in the future!

The cottage owner went above and beyond all expectations and truly spoilt us with the fabulous hampers to help us celebrate Christmas. We have booked again to come back in the summer 2020.

Our cottage was just what we were looking for, quiet, scenic, in a beautiful location.

When we arrived (we were late and it was dark) the lights had been put on for us. The cottage was really cosy, so much so that although cold weather prevailed we didn't have the need to light the wood burner! The cottage was immaculately clean and well equipped, the huge bed was very comfortable, lashings of hot water. What more could you ask for? Across the road The George Inn provided us with superb food and a great pint. Ed & Jackie were the perfect hosts. All in all one of the best holidays we have ever had.

This cottage is excellent, extremely comfortable, warm and cosy.

The kitchen is the most well equipped we’ve ever had. Gill was very welcoming and friendly making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The welcome pack is really lovely and the tea tray with fresh cake was very much appreciated after travelling.

The cottage had everything AND more.

It was spotless and had all the facilities we needed. The welcome hamper was exceptional and very welcome.

This cottage is such a lovely cosy place to stay.

Several treats were left for us which we greatly appreciated. I don't think I have ever stayed anywhere with such a comfy bed either. The location is great as well, with a river opposite and several local pubs and walks from the back door. Definitely a good retreat for anyone looking for a base for walking.

Great for walking, with the Dales Way passing close by, and a lovely cosy place to come home to at the end of a day’s trekking up the hills. The Sykes website entry is rather thoughtlessly composed, eg ‘you can easily cook up a delicious meal for the whole family’ in the kitchen. It is a two-person cottage! Cut out the patronising verbage and be accurate.

The cottage was 5/5 in all respects, cleanliness, comfort and all the little details were absolutely fantastic.
