  • "We had a wonderful stay at Rolo's Retreat."

The only thing we couldn't find was a clothes airer as we did a few washes because of the weather/mud! But other than than that the property was perfect. It was in a great location for us and everywhere we visited was only an hour away. We loved Grange over sands too. Thank you Amanda for the Easter card and treats, that was a lovely touch.

Thanks do much for your lovely feedback and 5* review. I’m so pleased you and your family had such a good time. Your suggestion of a clothes airer is much appreciated, I will certainly rectify that for my next guests. I realise you travelled some distance but I hope we can welcome you again sometime in the future. Best wishes Amanda. Property Owner

  • "We had a great week at Rolo's retreat."

Clean and tidy and well appointed property. Close to the area of Grange Over Sands. We enjoyed walking along the prom with our dog and visiting the local villages. All in a lovely quiet week.

Thank you so much for your 5* review, this is so much appreciated. It was lovely to meet you both and the lovely Bella! I look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the future. Amanda Property Owner

  • "Fabulous house, very clean and well equipped."

I couldn't find a hairdryer? Great location, far enough away from centre, but can easily walk there. Also at the bottom of the estate, pathway to a big field and a under pass to the prom. The owner Amanda was lovely. I forgot my dog's harness and she very kindly lent me one. We will definitely be back.

Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback. Thank you also for the comment about the hair dryer, I will certainly rectify this and supply one. I look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the future. Amanda Property Owner

  • "Really nice, comfortable and well equipped home ideally situated for exploring the southern Lakes."

Grange is an interesting small town with a Promenade along the bay and several parks so it was ideal for us to walk the dog. We used trains and buses to get out and about. We were two couples and we all had a very enjoyable holiday.

  • "Had a fantastic stay."

The property was really good - clean, comfortable and very handy for access to the town. It was also very quiet and peaceful as well as close to the town. You can access the prom from the bottom of the road through the playing field. Parking not a problem - so important when we choose a property. The owner was very friendly and if you need any advice etc you can just ask. We would definitely like to go back again.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It means such a lot to receive such positive feedback. I certainly hope you will visit Rolo’s Retreat in the future. Best wishes to you both, Amanda. Property Owner

  • "The property was almost new and in good condition."

Because it had recently been put on the holiday rental market all the non-structural items were new and in first-rate condition. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. On the downside Sykes proved to be a pretty poor rental agency and failed to warn us that there would be no Wi-Fi or smart TV despite having advertised these facilities . I would have expected Sykes to recognise their incorrect advertising and notified us, together with the offer of a modest refund of the price. We would visit again, but hopefully book via an alternative agency.

Thank you for your lovely comments, it was great to meet you. I’m so pleased you had an enjoyable time. Hope to welcome you again in the future. Amanda Property Owner

About the location

Cartmel 2 miles; Lake Windermere 8 miles; Kendal 10 miles.

The charming Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is set between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay and offers one of the mildest climates in the north of England. Formerly a small fishing village, the introduction of the Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands into a fashionable Edwardian resort. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, delightful ornamental gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts and excellent bird watching. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house. There is also the 25 mile Cistercian Way which starts at Grange over Sands. Set amidst the southern lakes, the attractive town of Grange-over-Sands makes a superb base from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area.
