  • "Cottage is in a great location."

The bed in main bedroom was extremely comfortable and the shower in the main bathroom was powerful. However, the whole cottage needs a deep clean, it wasn’t up to the standard we would expect. We couldn’t get the heating to work upstairs, it was cold and felt damp. The downstairs toilet was horrendous, it had a terrible sewage smell. No basics in the kitchen like oil, basic spices, kitchen roll, foil etc. The welcome pack was not what we’re used - it was a pack of biscuits and a bottle of wine. We normally get milk, butter, eggs as well as a treat and a bottle of wine. This cottage wasn’t cheap so we expected better. Overall a very disappointing experience!

Dear Angela. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re delighted that you enjoyed the cottage’s location and comfort, but we’re very sorry that other aspects of your stay did not meet expectations. We always want our guests to have the best possible experience, and it’s disappointing to hear that yours fell short. Had we have known about your concerns during your stay, Lakelovers, who manage the property on our behalf would of course have attended the cottage the same day to rectify any issues. We have a full maintenance and house keeping contract in place with them to ensure that any problems can be resolved promptly. Regarding the welcome pack, Lakelovers do not provide a fresh/perishable pack, and as we don’t live locally so are unable to supply one ourselves unfortunately. However, we do appreciate how much those small touches mean. Please be assured that we’ve shared your comments with Lakelovers, and they’ve confirmed that everything has been addressed. We sincerely apologise for the disappointment caused and thank you for your valuable feedback. Warmest wishes Alison & Rob Property Owner

  • "Great accommodation — quirky and comfortable Best thing was being able to go on wonderful walks from front door I only needed to get back into the car once in our week to go 10 mins to a lightweight’s take off for Hellvelyn and then walk right back home Pub at the bottom of the drive had good food Up there with the best places we’ve stayed at in the lakes Book it!"

Dear Mike Thank you so much for such a wonderful review! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the quirky comforts and that the walks right from the doorstep hit the spot (and saved a few car journeys too!). Sounds like you made the very best of Lakeland life, good food, great walks, and a touch of adventure! We’d love to welcome you back anytime, Hellvelyn and the pub will still be waiting. • "The cottage was absolutely stunning!"

Comfortable beds, big sofas, well equipped kitchen and very conveniently placed. The walks from the doorstep were amazing. We had a wonderful stay. Plus, having The Travellers Rest just down the lane was a huge bonus!

Dear Kate Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re delighted you found the cottage as comfortable as it is beautiful, those big sofas do have a way of keeping guests from venturing too far! We couldn’t agree more about the walks (and The Travellers Rest , it’s hard to resist that short stroll for a well-earned pint). So pleased you had a wonderful stay, we’d love to welcome you back for more lakeside lounging and doorstep adventures! Warmest wishes Alison & Rob Property Owner

Apart from that it was great.

  • "Beautiful, Stunning cottage, so clean and has absolutely everything you need."

I was really impressed. Bedrooms are beautiful too, so much space. You get what you pay for. Kitchen is spacious, loved cooking on the Arger Easy walk down into Grasmere, The Swan Hotel, fab food and hospitality. Lovely shops, eateries and a beautiful walk around the lake.

Dear Karen. Thank you so much for your fantastic feedback! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the space, the bedrooms, and even had fun putting the AGA to work, it does make cooking feel a bit more rustic, doesn’t it? We couldn’t agree more about Grasmere, great food, charming shops, and those lakeside walks are hard to beat. So pleased you had such a lovely stay and made the most of everything on the doorstep. • "Lovely cottage great location."

Plenty of room. We were a party of 6 with a toddler and dog. Aga needs to be switched on all the time for it to work. Very warm downstairs. Cosy. Lovely outside space.

Dear Angela Thank you for your lovely feedback! We’re so glad the cottage worked well for your party of six (plus your toddler and four-legged friend) and that you enjoyed the cosy spaces inside and out. The AGA does have a mind of its own, but we’re happy it kept things toasty downstairs! We’d love to welcome you all back for another comfy stay. Warmest wishes Alison & Rob Property Owner

The property

Grasmere 1 mile.

Stone Arthur Cottage is an elegant and original slate-built farmhouse property situated on the outskirts of Grasmere, Cumbria, that will appeal to everyone's internal lake lover.

Boasting the highest modern standards, while retaining the charmingly old-world character of Stone Arthur Cottage, this delightful abode sleeping six has everything you could ask for in the beating heart of Lakeland!

As soon you walk up to the Gothic cathedral-style doors, you can tell this is a special and thoroughly authentic property.

From the archaic lintel above the woodburning stove and the wonderful thick beams that line the ceiling in the sitting room, to the beautiful floors and furniture echoed throughout this excellent property, antique wooden grandeur is everywhere!

High quality, high comfort sofas let you curl up in luxuriant bliss near the blazing woodburning stove, and the wonderfully spacious yet homely country kitchen is open to the sitting room, and makes a great spot in which to enjoy those all important walkers' breakfasts before you hit the hills.

The bedrooms are generous and refined rooms, with the most wonderfully ornate and lavish antique wooden bedsteads, and ensure you wake well refreshed each morning to tackle the day's activities, and the superb modern bathroom facilities will also help energise you into top form.

Views to Grasmere lake itself and the fells all around make your cottage a real delight to stay in, and the location could hardly be better, perfectly central in the Lakes and offering a winning combination of adventure in all directions and blissful tranquillity.

The most glorious scenery anywhere in England is all about you, and it goes without saying that the walking is second to none.

Smaller fells like Loughrigg and Helm Crag make for outstandingly beautiful rambles, and there are plenty of larger mountains to conquer as well as a multitude of leveller walks by the lake shores.

This is Wordsworth country too, of course, so the cultural heritage is truly fascinating, and you can even walk up Greenhead Ghyll from Stone Arthur Cottage, and see the very sheepfold that inspired the poem 'Michael'.

We fully recommend a visit to at least one of the homes of the famed poet; Rydal Mount, Allen Bank and Dove Cottage are all open for your enjoyment.

With its perfect blend of historical charm, comfort, and an unbeatable Lakeland location, Stone Arthur Cottage offers an unforgettable escape for those seeking both adventure and relaxation.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
