"We had a fabulous Easter week in Stone Arthur cottage and it had everything we needed for a great holiday."
We even managed to cook an Easter Sunday Roast lamb in the Aga with no issues! Cottage is beautiful and we loved the quirky traditional features (although our 6ft 4 son wasn’t built for the doorway height in those days!

"This was our first visit to Stone Arthur but I don’t think it will be our last."
A beautiful cottage in a great location. The cottage had everything we needed. Loved the enclosed garden. Despite it being early April, we managed to sit outside with a cuppa and enjoy the sunshine. Great walks from the doorstep. Great food at the nearby pubs.

"The cottage is in a wonderful quiet location with everything we needed within a short walk or drive, yet with amazing views and walks on the doorstep."
The rooms are bigger than I thought they appeared in the photos, and it looks like there has possibly been some fresh decor and replacement of some of the bedroom furniture like the huge new bed in the main bedroom since the photos were taken. We found the main lounge sofas very lumpy/uncomfortable and we were grateful for the additional small lounge off the kitchen/diner which was sufficient as there was only 2 of us. Overall I'd say the cottage was in good order and pretty clean considering the age and type.
Highlights were the lovely enclosed garden for our dog, good heating (underfloor, radiators, AGA) and plenty of hot water and decent showers, PIR security lights outside for late/early dog walks, spacious homely feel, lots of storage and well equipped kitchen, and wonderful location.
As other reviewers have stated you will need to bring everything you need aside from salt/pepper if you want to cook - by that I mean things we might normally find in our rental property kitchen like a roll of kitchen towel, oil for cooking, basic spices, cling film/kitchen foil, tea and coffee, dishwasher tablet or 2 - some of these things are shown in the photos but not provided.
It's also the first property we have ever been to (and we have come to the Lakes a few times a year for many years now) where there has been no welcome pack at all - not even the wine/biscuits other guests seem to have received! Again these things are not necessarily expected, however they do seem to be the norm based on our experiences.
Overall a really enjoyable stay and we'd happily return in the future.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review, we’re really pleased to hear how much you enjoyed the cottage, especially the peaceful location, spacious feel, and those wonderful walks right on the doorstep. It’s also lovely to know the garden worked so well for your dog and that you were comfortable with the heating and facilities during your stay.
We’re especially grateful for your feedback, and I’m very sorry that you didn’t receive a welcome pack. You absolutely should have arrived to find one, including wine, chocolates, and a good supply of cleaning essentials such as dishwasher tablets. We’ve raised this directly with Lakelovers, and while we suspect it may have been due to the booking being made last minute, that’s still no excuse and not the experience we want for our guests.
I completely understand your comments about kitchen basics. We genuinely wish we could provide more of those everyday items, but as we’re not local, it’s difficult for us to reliably keep them stocked and maintained between stays. That said, your feedback is really helpful and something we continue to think about improving where possible.
We’re delighted that overall you had such an enjoyable stay and would happily return, that truly means a lot to us. If you do decide to come back, please do let me know, and I’ll personally make sure you’re very well looked after… with double the wine and plenty of chocs waiting for you!
Warmest wishes,
Alison + Rob.

"Lovely character property in great, quiet location."
Excellent accommodation size and layout. Very well fitted out.
Experienced some issues with the heating - extremely hot on arrival then heating/hot water failed but Sykes maintenance team responded quickly. 2nd shower unit cubicle didn't get hot water all week (mildly warm at best).
Be aware of some low head height restrictions at a couple points which require ducking under and a couple of uneven interior steps but OK when used to it. Would book again as a lovely property and knowing that any issues get resolved.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, we’re really pleased you enjoyed the character of the property, its peaceful location, and the space and layout. It’s great to hear you’d happily return, and that means a lot to us.
We’re very sorry for the heating and hot water hiccups during your stay. It appears a valve in the boiler thermostat decided to call it a day, and not to be outdone, the shower thermostat also gave up the ghost shortly after! Not ideal timing at all, but we’re glad the Sykes maintenance team were able to respond quickly and get things moving in the right direction.
As for the low ceilings, yes, it does seem people must have been a bit more compact back in the 1600s! And you’re absolutely right about the floors too… a few of those tiles have certainly seen some history. If only they’d been keeping a step count over the centuries, we’d probably be looking at record-breaking numbers by now.
Thanks again for your kind words and your understanding, we’d love to welcome you back again for a smoother (and fully heated!) stay next time.
Warmest wishes

"A wonderful cosy and comfortable cottage set in beautiful surroundings."
Booked for a 60th Birthday celebration and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
Well equipped spacious kitchen/diner/lounge we found perfect for entertaining.
Lovely cosy lounge with a log burner and comfy settees.
Bedrooms are spacious with high quality bedding with comfortable beds and plenty of storage.
Garden area was lovely, we stayed in December and so could not make full use of but idyllic for the summer months.
Grasmere is a 15 minute walk away with the added bonus of a lovely pub just 5 minutes walk away down the lane.
*Really nice touch from the owners with the cottage decorated out with Christmas trees and decorations.
We had a perfect week for celebrations so many thanks, we will be back !
Thank you so much for such a lovely review, it’s an absolute joy to read that the cottage helped make your 60th birthday celebrations so special! We’re delighted it lived up to the occasion and that you found it cosy, comfortable, and well set up for entertaining.
It’s great to hear you enjoyed both lounges (the log burner does have a way of stealing the show on winter evenings!) and that the bedrooms hit the mark for comfort—nothing better than a good night’s sleep after a day in the Lakes.
We’re especially pleased you appreciated the Christmas decorations. We like to think the cottage enjoys dressing up for the festive season almost as much as our guests do, I must admit I love spending a couple of days in the cottage with the fire burning and taking my time to decorate the trees. I think the cottage would look rather offended if we didn’t make the effort!
And yes, the garden does keep its best tricks for the warmer months, so that’s just another excuse to come back and see it in full swing. With Grasmere a stroll away and the pub even closer, it sounds like you made the most of the location too.
Thank you again for choosing the cottage for such a special celebration, we’d be absolutely delighted to welcome you back anytime.
Warmest wishes

"Cottage is in a great location."
The bed in main bedroom was extremely comfortable and the shower in the main bathroom was powerful.
However, the whole cottage needs a deep clean, it wasn’t up to the standard we would expect.
We couldn’t get the heating to work upstairs, it was cold and felt damp.
The downstairs toilet was horrendous, it had a terrible sewage smell.
No basics in the kitchen like oil, basic spices, kitchen roll, foil etc.
The welcome pack was not what we’re used - it was a pack of biscuits and a bottle of wine. We normally get milk, butter, eggs as well as a treat and a bottle of wine.
This cottage wasn’t cheap so we expected better. Overall a very disappointing experience!
Dear Angela.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re delighted that you enjoyed the cottage’s location and comfort, but we’re very sorry that other aspects of your stay did not meet expectations.
We always want our guests to have the best possible experience, and it’s disappointing to hear that yours fell short. Had we have known about your concerns during your stay, Lakelovers, who manage the property on our behalf would of course have attended the cottage the same day to rectify any issues. We have a full maintenance and house keeping contract in place with them to ensure that any problems can be resolved promptly.
Regarding the welcome pack, Lakelovers do not provide a fresh/perishable pack, and as we don’t live locally so are unable to supply one ourselves unfortunately. However, we do appreciate how much those small touches mean.
Please be assured that we’ve shared your comments with Lakelovers, and they’ve confirmed that everything has been addressed. We sincerely apologise for the disappointment caused and thank you for your valuable feedback.

"Great accommodation — quirky and comfortable
Best thing was being able to go on wonderful walks from front door
I only needed to get back into the car once in our week to go 10 mins to a lightweight’s take off for Hellvelyn and then walk right back home
Pub at the bottom of the drive had good food
Up there with the best places we’ve stayed at in the lakes
Book it!"
Dear Mike
Thank you so much for such a wonderful review! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the quirky comforts and that the walks right from the doorstep hit the spot (and saved a few car journeys too!). Sounds like you made the very best of Lakeland life, good food, great walks, and a touch of adventure! We’d love to welcome you back anytime, Hellvelyn and the pub will still be waiting.

"The cottage was absolutely stunning!"
Comfortable beds, big sofas, well equipped kitchen and very conveniently placed. The walks from the doorstep were amazing. We had a wonderful stay. Plus, having The Travellers Rest just down the lane was a huge bonus!
Dear Kate
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re delighted you found the cottage as comfortable as it is beautiful, those big sofas do have a way of keeping guests from venturing too far! We couldn’t agree more about the walks (and The Travellers Rest , it’s hard to resist that short stroll for a well-earned pint). So pleased you had a wonderful stay, we’d love to welcome you back for more lakeside lounging and doorstep adventures!

"Beautiful, Stunning cottage, so clean and has absolutely everything you need."
I was really impressed.
Bedrooms are beautiful too, so much space. You get what you pay for.
Kitchen is spacious, loved cooking on the Arger
Easy walk down into Grasmere, The Swan Hotel, fab food and hospitality.
Lovely shops, eateries and a beautiful walk around the lake.
Dear Karen.
Thank you so much for your fantastic feedback! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the space, the bedrooms, and even had fun putting the AGA to work, it does make cooking feel a bit more rustic, doesn’t it? We couldn’t agree more about Grasmere, great food, charming shops, and those lakeside walks are hard to beat. So pleased you had such a lovely stay and made the most of everything on the doorstep.

"Lovely cottage great location."
Plenty of room. We were a party of 6 with a toddler and dog.
Aga needs to be switched on all the time for it to work. Very warm downstairs.
Cosy. Lovely outside space.
Dear Angela
Thank you for your lovely feedback! We’re so glad the cottage worked well for your party of six (plus your toddler and four-legged friend) and that you enjoyed the cosy spaces inside and out. The AGA does have a mind of its own, but we’re happy it kept things toasty downstairs! We’d love to welcome you all back for another comfy stay.
