Lovely cottage we love it here we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

It is clean cozy in a gorgeous area and Tim the owner is there if you need him and very helpful but never intrusive we always have a wonderful stay 10/10 superb

Really comfortable place with everything needed.

Pub a short walk away. Close to all the local sights on roads that were not too busy. I didn't want to leave and hope to be back.

We had a wonderful week at The Croft.

It’s a perfect spot for a touring base. Just right for two people. The cottage is clean, well presented, and has everything you could wish for in a holiday cottage.

It's perfect for us as a couple, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Tim, the owner is helpful and friendly but respects your privacy. The General Burgoyne is a great village pub. We love the location, lots to do within easy reach.

What an utterly lovely place to stay: very comfy bed, large shower in the en-suite, fully equipped kitchen.

Feels more spacious than it physically is. Good base to explore the area, especially meanders around the Tarn, pin-drop silent at night. Downstairs is a kitchen/lounge with clever use of space: fridge freezer, oven, dishwasher, and washing machine. Crockery, cutlery, glasses and kitchen utensils. Comfy sofa, table for two and a collection of books alongside the TV. Upstairs is the bedroom - double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinets and a corner en-suite with a large shower, sink and loo. There is a decking area outside, but the weather was never quite dry enough for us to use it! Just big enough for two, or a single guest that likes a bit of space. The only point that might cause pause is maneuvering into the parking space.

The Crook was a perfect base to see the Lakes and beautiful surrounding areas.

The cottage was very clean and tidy and had all the facilities you require for your stay. A very comfortable bed and wonderful shower room. We would definitely stay there again. We would highly recommend the Crook. Thankyou.

It's cosy, and clean, in a nice quiet village. Tim, the owner is friendly and on hand for any questions. The cottage is well equipped with kitchen and bathroom cleaning products and a welcome pack of milk, tea, coffee and biscuits is always provided as well as the extra touches of a bottle of wine and fresh flowers. We enjoy sitting out on the decking too which is quite a suntrap. Since our last stay the TV and microwave have been replaced. A very good for value property.

Would return next year as the premises were spot on.

Lovey break .

Cottage clean and comfortable and cool in the heat wave . Easy access to the lakes and local town for shopping and attractions. Tim was welcoming and left a lovey welcome pack. wine , flowers etc. The Bed was very comfortable we both slept well. we would recommend local pub 12 minutes walk very friendly staff good food and ales. and any the local attractions none of which disappointed. when we return to the lakes we would be happy to be based here. The Crook Cottage is tucked away in the beautiful village of Great Urswick.

The owner was very helpful in helping us find it initially using what3words. The cottage was excellent, well equipped with a sun-drenched (we were lucky with the weather) decked patio for most of the day. We used the cottage as a base to discover the many walks and attractions in the local area around Ulverston and Barrow. We were blessed with the exceptionally good May weather, which was an added bonus to the rest and relaxation offered by this holiday. There are no shops in the village but there is a popular local pub within less than 10 minutes walk away, which also offers food and Sunday lunches. To the owners, our hosts, who were very friendly and welcoming we would like to say "Many Thanks".

It was a great stay at the crook, a lovely comfortable little cottage.

A great place to come back and unwind after a day full of activities. The owner was very welcoming and checked in from time to time to see if there was anything we needed. Plenty of information provided and plenty of advice regarding things to do. Overall very happy with our stay and would recommend to others. May also look at revisiting again in the future.

Friendly owner and well-equipped in a good location for the Southern Lakes

Lovely property, very nicely presented, warm and with everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.

The owners were friendly and on hand if any problems, but were very unobtrusive. This is a lovely corner of the Lake District, convenient for the coast and fells and is an ideal base for a walking holiday. We would certainly like to return again.

Warm clean cottage , everything you need!

We had a lovely week, the cottage was just what we wanted, perfect location, very peacful area.

Dr Beard was on hand you if needed and we very much appreciated the very thoughtful biscuits, flowers etc. The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean. It was equipped with absolutely everything you would need. The owners came to introduce themselves and nothing was too much trouble. The bed was the most comfortable one I've slept in. We would definitely recommend it and we will go again.

Access to garden outside space and ample parking. Shame that both local pubs had recently closed!

Great value for money, a lovely cosy break from it all.

Friendly and helpful owner is always a pleasure to deal with. Perfect for a couple. Shame the nearby pub isn't as consistently good. Watch out for the chaffinch which taps on the back door glass every morning. The noise baffled us at first until we saw what was making it. A good place to base yourself within easy reach of so many attractions we didn't know existed until we stayed here. Many nice walks around the common and the Buddhist temple plus many other places.

This was a nice cottage ideal for our needs.

We had two small issues, a bulb replacement and ring main power tripped. Both were fixed very quickly. Tim was very helpful.

Excellent cottage in a beautiful village.

Quiet peaceful and relaxing. The cottage was spotlessly clean very well equipped with a very comfortable bed . The host is a really nice man who is very helpful. Would 100% recommend and we will definitely be returning.

We found the bed matress far too soft and would have prefered something much firmer.

As we are both tall we found the lounge chairs to far to low and no back and head support. Light bulbs needed changing in the lounge and the door lock mechanisms could do with oiling. Having said that we did enjoy our stay and it wouldn't stop us going back again.

We have just had our honeymoon here and it is so cosy and intimate, as the write up already says " It is lovely for a romantic getaway". We totally agree.

The Crook was an excellent choice for two people, small and cosy.

The owner seemed to think of all eventualities and supplied lots of stuff, including wine, biccies and flowers. Tim (owner) was pleasant and helpful. Had a bit of a laugh finding it though because it’s all winding lanes and hidden driveways. Was a bit disappointed with the local pub The General Bourgoyne being shut most of the week for some reason, caught it one day and it was a nice pub, really looked forward to a visit each day but hey ho that’s not the owners fault. Had a couple of good meals in Dalton-In-Furness “Hartley’s” lovely owner/waitress

We absolutely loved our stay in The Crook.

It's location was ideal for us as it was close to many nature reserves. There was so much to do in the area a week was not long enough! The cottage was very well equipped, just like being at home and the owners were very friendly and welcoming. If I were to be really picky, the one fault was the broadband connection which was poor in the evening but other than that a perfect base for exploring Western Cumbria and North Lancashire. We would definitely consider this cottage again for a further visit to this area.

The Crook is a very comfortable and cosy cottage situated in a lovely picturesque village close to Ulveston.

I received a warm welcome from the property owner and everything I needed was available to me. This is an ideal cottage for one or two persons. There are plenty of walks and sites to visit in the area and also easy access to the Lake District travelling by car. I would definitely recommend the property and area to friends and family.

I stayed on my own January 2022, the cottage was very clean when I arrived and had lovely comfortable facilities.

The temperature in the cottage was easy to control as there are extra heaters if needed. The owner Tim was very friendly and made me feel very welcome. I would definitely recommend this if you would like a quiet getaway.

First time at Lakes and in a cottage but definitely won't be the last

The cottage was beautiful and equipped beyond our expectations and the owner supplied various luxury extras that went above and beyond.

We booked this property due to its village location and the fact that it was in close proximity to 2 village pubs. It appears that 1 of the pubs closed down 18 months ago and unfortunately, due to covid19, the other is only open 4 days per week. so instead of going out for a stroll and drink in the evenings, we had to travel to get food or drinks which defeated the object of booking this location. If you want to eat or drink out on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, you have a long walk or a drive to get something.

The cottage and the owner were exceptional, it was our first time in the area and we enjoyed every minute, the cottage was really cosy and very comfortable, we took essentials with us but everything was provided for us including flowers, wine,Tim's homemade plum jam, it was like been at home

Cottage is Spotless, cosy and very well equipped Kitchen, excellent bathroom facilities, quality bedding and a comfy bed.

We had lots added extras with a lovely host which made our stay comfortable and cosy. The location is great, we followed the host guide and headed straight up to Birkrigg Common which was our garden.. We were happy to drive out to The Walks Scafell Pike, the Old Man and visited Keswick and the busier areas knowing we were returning to a peaceful hamlet with the locals

Crook Cottage is more spacious than some 'sleeps two' cottages we have used, and is very will equipped; very cosy, warm and homely. Tim Beard is a very friendly, helpful host. We would definitely use this cottage again if we were to hoilday in this part of the country again.

The cottage was absolutely spot less when we arrived there was a nice bottle of wine plus some flowers and milk + tea bags and milk The owner is very nice and friendly and help full we will be going there again .

Fantastic cottage, tucked away in a beautiful village near Ulverston.

Very handy for exploring the local area and a great pub nearby for eating out. Tim, the owner, was extremely helpful and had even left us biscuits and wine for our stay - perfect! The cottage was spotlessly clean with a well equipped kitchen, modern bathroom and the comfiest bed ever. The garden has many bird visitors to our dellight and was such a wonderful place to relax that we felt completely refreshed after our break. Highly recommend this cottage - a hidden gem.

Wonderful accommodation and on days when weather not as good it was great to come back to such comfort.

Found the roads very busy and parking at various sights to be in very short supply. Parking at Lancaster very expensive if you exceeded a three hour mark and when you are looking around a city with lots to see then three hours is not a lot of time. Three hours was £3.50. But 3 hours and ten minutes was £10.00 which we felt to be a big jump. Left a feeling that visitors are being ripped off. Just a word for,visitors to be more aware than we were. We found our host to be charming and very helpful and for this along with the high standard of accomodation we would be happy to recommend this property to anyone.

The area is renowned for its beauty & it didn't disappoint.

The cottage was perfect, a joy to return to after our days out. Extremely comfortable & full of thoughtful touches. Tim had thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable, the only thing he couldn't fix was the weather, which after the exceptional temperatures of the previous week, we were back with rain! Still we found lots to do in the area, places to visit, just meant using the car more than we'd planned. Had a great week especially the lake cruise & the Eskdale railway. As always the week goes very quickly so we couldn't pack in everything we wanted so will have to visit this part of the country again some time.

This was a return visit to the cottage after 5 years.

It was as if time had stood still and the cottage looked exactly the same - very comfortable, clean and tidy, and well-equipped. The owner lives next door and the barn on the other side is currently being converted (by the man who lives opposite) into two holiday cottages.

The cottage was exceptional and is a credit to the owner Mr Beard.

We loved staying there and it was a very good base to travel out from to explore the surrounding area in Lake district. There was bottle of wine awaiting us and it was very much appreciated sitting out on a warm evening on the decking area. As well as milk/tea/coffee/sugar being there when we arrived helped immensely. The cottage was lovely and cool and the foresight to have a fan in the bedroom was inspired. Everything was spotlessly clean and the shower was excellent. would love to stay there again.

What a gem of a place!

- Modern, clean and cosy. Mr Beard was really accommodating and welcoming, giving us instructions on where the cottage was located prior to travelling. There was nice little touches around the home including milk, tea, coffee and even a bottle of chilled wine in the fridge! We really enjoyed our stay and the location was great for a relaxing getaway as well as being close to the lakes and activities. Thanks again

Accommodation not as listed.

Contact telephone number was incorrect. Photograph showing hotel entrance was the village pub, which ceased trading two months prior to our visit. After returning to the pub after a prolonged searching of the area to try to locate the accommodation, the ex landlord appeared in his dressing gown, has no idea where the property was, but offered a torch to search the area (which had suffered a power cut the month prior and was not yet rectified). Accommodation had no wired internet access and no bath as advertised. Power cuts had affected the boiler and therefore no hot water or heating was available. Sykes refuses to provide alternative suitable accommodation, offering instead 1/3 refund on the amount paid. After sourcing alternative accommodation at our own expense for two days (of our ten days stay), in order to gain heat and hot water and allow Sykes time to rectify the situation, we were instead contacted multiple times and offered the same 1/3 refund and ultimately left without accommodation for the remainder of our stay.

Lovely little hideaway, Tim Beard the Owner was lovely, upon arrival there was s bottle of wine chilled in the fridge, all beverages including Milk!

He had thought of everything. This has parking just outside the Property Great, dishwasher & washing machine and all facilities you need for self-catering. Big bedroom & living room. Perfect

The accommodation was comfortable, warm, furnished well and included all we could have required.

The owner welcomed us, was very friendly and checked that all was satisfactory during our stay.

This is our 5th year staying at this cottage from 2014 I think we will book next year need I say more.

The cottage itself was excellent, but the information said nothing about crossing a building site to the cottage.

When we arranged for the key collection, the owner told us there were some working around the entry point. Whilst these are not in the owners control the presence of lorries, diggers and concrete mixers between the public road and the cottage is very off-putting and the problem should be made clearer to renters. The owner's daughter tod us she would sort out any access problems we might have, and indeed we had none because the builders on the adjacent site werevery understanding......but it was still a building site we had not expected.

The owner telephoned us just prior to our holiday and gave us detailed directions and other information that was really appreciated.

When we arrived at the cottage, he had left a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge, a bunch of flowers and a packet of McVities chocolate thins, such a lovely gesture and a warm welcome after a long journey. Overall our weeks holiday ticked all the boxes. The cottage was well based for all the places we wanted to visit, very comfortable with all amenities you could want both in the cottage and the immediate area and an owner that gives that little bit extra. Very impressed

The owner was very Freindly. Lots to see and do around Ulverston. We especially liked the Safari zoo.

Lovely cottage situated in a quiet village but only a few minutes from coast/beach and 30 mins from the heart of the Lakes.

The cottage had all that we needed for our stay and the owner was friendly and helpful.

The Crook gave us easy access to the southern lakes but also introduced us to a very pleasant part of Cumbria. The village tarn is delightful and the common a lovely place for an evening stroll.

Realy nice location and cottage can’t say much more, we had a nice relaxing week, central heating struggled to warm the cottage but that was probably just us!
