  • "Such a lovely cottage, the kitchen was very well equiped."

We would highley recommend this cottage, We gues in winter it is very cosy once the log burner is lit. Only one small suggestion would be to update the cottages folder with bin/recycling days?? We also could not locate any recycling box's at the cottage? But the folder suggested there were some and on speaking with a neighbour she thought the cottage had some? We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Dear Hayley, Thank you for staying at The Old Post House and thank you for your wonderful review. I text incoming clients each weekend with latest info however I was unable to contact you as your mobile number was incomplete in the booking system. We will update the bin day information and we are hoping to be able to implement a recycling system very soon, as it is very important to us and something we are fully bought into in our own home. We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and would be most happy to welcome you back. Best Wishes for 2024 and beyond. Mike and Gilly. Property Owner

It really does feel as if you are visiting someone’s home rather than a holiday let, the quality of the furnishings and appliances is much higher than a typical holiday cottage and all the little extras are really appreciated. The location at Witherslack is great for access to the south side of the lakes and also convenient for the north Lancashire coast. Communication from Mike is excellent and he really makes us feel welcome. I’m really looking forward to another visit!

Every comfort has been thought about. We were especially delighted to find the owner had recently installed an EV charger, which took pressure off us having to find fast public chargers, which are still hard to come by. We also appreciated the upgraded TV entertainment package. The garden is a lovely peaceful space and safe for dogs, with access directly to some lovely short walks. The location is an ideal base to visit the many local attractions but away from the hussle and bustle of mass tourism. There are many local eateries and a pub within walking distance. What more could one ask for!

Dear Hazel, Thank you very much for your kind words and thank you for staying at The Old Post House. We love staying there ourselves as much as we can and really appreciate the fact that you found it homely . Best Wishes for 2024 and beyond. Mike and Gilly. Property Owner

The decor is stunning, it's very welcoming and a real home from home with a superbly equiped kitchen. The owners Mike and Gilly have clearly given thought to our every need. Witherslack itself is a lovely village and unlike the busier, central Lakes villages, is quiet and a haven to retreat to at the end of a day's walking. There are some good walks from the village if you don't want to drive further afield. There's a community shop and the pub is just how a pub should be. We have loved our stay at The Old Post House. Can't recommend it enough. Thank you Mike and Gilly for sharing it. Sharon.

  • "Probably the best, well equipped, and most comfortable cottage we have ever booked through Sykes."

The location is ideal for exploring the southern lakes, and the secure garden and access to ‘Rocky Common’ through the back gate is a boon for dog owners. The kitchen is so well equipped it was like a home from home, but the local pub had good food and a great pint of local ale for those evenings when we didn’t want to cook. The only slight niggle was that there is no freezer or ice compartment in the fridge, so a quiet drink in the lovely garden was a warm G&T! However I can understand that it would we difficult to retro fit a freezer without spoiling the charm of the kitchen. We are definitely planning to come back again.

Thank you for your feedback - we really appreciate it. Apologies there was no freezer facility - a warm G&T is far from ideal !! We are addressing this in the next couple of weeks and there will be a freezer from the beginning of July 2023 onwards. Property Owner

  • "Thank you for our stay, the house was lovely, everything was perfect."

We loved the welcome pack, books etc. There are only two comments not for publishing we would make, the first I think on the listing it should be clearer that there is not a freezer, and the second is that it should be noted that the owners have a cat, simply due to the fact that there were some cat hairs, and we were considering inviting a friend who would have been unable to stay due to allergies. This does not take from the fact the house was lovely. Thank you!!

Thank you for your feedback. We will update the listing to reflect the fact that there is currently no freezer compartment in the fridge. Regarding cats, yes we do have a cat (hence the cat flap in the kitchen door) and we also allow all our clients to stay with pets. As a result the majority of our bookings do include pets. Obviously, we try to ensure all pet hair is vacuumed away on change-over days, but there is always the risk of a few escaping the vacuum. We are very sorry that there were some cat/dog hairs remaining and we will ask our cleaners to be more attentive of this. Many Thanks, Mike and Gilly. Property Owner

A quirky, but charming propoerty due to its former uses. The enclosed garden was great for the dog and a gate which backs onto Rocky common for the morning walk. The OPH is in a great location in the spreadout village of Witherslack and very close to the A590 for access to the rest of the lakes. The village is quiet and has a smashing pub, the Derby Arms. A proper pub, but more gems are on your doorstep: The Hare & Hounds in Levens, The Strickland Arms near Sizergh Castle which also has a great farm shop. Witherslack is also striking distance for many of the Lakes attractions, Windermere, Bowness, Ullswater & Coniston were the destinations we went to but don't overlook more local attractions Levens Deer Park and the Arnside Knott. A great week's holiday.

Far, far prettier than the pictures!! The furnishings are beautiful and of an extremely high quality. Everything was immaculate when we arrived, the owners provided everything we could possibly need. We were surprised to find a dog treat jar and even dog towels, blankets and food bowls. We were a family group of 5 adults getting together from various places around the world and found the accommodation was cosy and homely, the kitchen is definitely a great space to spend time with a cosy aga and eye catching details. The large farmhouse table was our meeting point for breakfast and evening card card games. The surrounding area is beautiful with rolling hills sheep and cows. The village is small and peaceful with a shop and pub which we used a few times. The pub was very welcoming and served delicious well priced food. It’s superbly located for days out to Windermere, Cartmel, Grasmere. We had fantastic meals wherever we went and the local lamb is delicious. We highly recommend The Old Post House.

It is beautiful. The thoughtful welcome hamper and dog treats for our dog were most welcome and throughly enjoyed. The information on the house appliances, where to eat and walks locally were all added in the information booklet. The attention to detail was outstanding. The photos do not do it justice.. would recommend updating the photos.. The kitchen is wonderful, with more facilities than expected of most holiday cottages. The lounge is lovely, however the sofa, whilst stunning is not entirely comfy, the sofa in the kitchen is extremely comfortable and it’s a shame it doesn’t fit in the lounge area. That said we didn’t spend any time in the lounge as we don’t watch TV, we played the vast array of games provided instead. The cottage is a perfect retreat for adults and potentially older children, I would not recommend it for families with young children, because of the many stairs in the cottage, and with the garden tucked away out of view. The bedrooms and bathroom are beautifully furnished with comfortable mattresses and soft furnishings. The shower is excellent. The location is perfect with lots of walks right from The door, as well as easy access to the lakes and beyond a shirt drive away. The local pub is nice and friendly and a 15 min easy walk. Would highly recommend this lovely quirky little cottage and we shall definitely be returning. Thank you!

It was well equipped with great wi-fi connection. There is even an HDMI cable to connect a laptop to the TV. Within a short distance there are plenty of dog friendly places to eat or visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The turn into the short driveway is tight and reversing out is tricky as you can’t see traffic but luckily the road outside is not busy. We had a dog with us and it was a bit stressful trying to keep everything clean as the cottage has very light carpet and furnishings but the owners provide helpful extras such as dog towels and throws.
