  • "An incredible week in this gorgeous cottage."

The views are astonishing and allow for endless walks straight from the front door. It’s been restored in such a way as to feel like we’re in a traditional local cottage but with all the modern amenities to make life comfortable and easy. The week here has done us the world of good. We will be returning!

  • "Lovely cottage."

Very well equipped. Perfect location and tastefully decorated. The views were amazing and the garden a plus (even in late October). I have already recommended Thomas Cottage to my aunt. We hope to return again to complete some more of the local walks.

  • "Outside the cottage was beautiful, the gardens also."

However inside was a huge disappointment. Not cleaned properly only surfaces wiped. When was this property last deep cleaned? No welcome pack and the sofa has clearly well past its best, it was a disgrace to think that's acceptable for guests to use. We love Hartsop and have stayed at many places all over the lake district, however this is by far the worse place and especially for the price we paid. We left a day early due to being so uncomfortable here.

Thank you very much for letting us know how you found your stay at Thomas Cottage. It is always helpful to get feedback. We have purchased a new sofa, and will be looking into the cleaning. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic cottage."

So comfortable, characterful and warm with glorious views from every window. The owners have thought of everything. Although it is adjoined to another cottage, it feels as if it is detached. Walks in every direction from the door. Would definitely recommend and will return.

  • "Thomas Cottage was perfect for our short break - super peaceful (except when the jets go over but that's also awesome, not often, and highly anticipated!"

). The place is well maintained and equipped, and we felt like we were home the minute we got there. Lovely garden which is simply heaven in the sun. Excellent location for hiking and exploring the hills!

  • "Lovely cottage, very warm and comforting."

The location is also fab, our Autstic son doesn't sleep great generally but whilst staying at the cottage he fell asleep early and slept all night. Loved the log burner, and the fact we could bring our little sausage dog took the stress off us. All in all a lovely cottage with all he facilities needed and more.

Being there felt timeless hugged around by rolling hills and nature. Thank you so much for sharing this experience, I would move to Hartsop in a heartbeat, what a different way of life! We have already booked the cottage for next year before we left!

  • "Our stay in this pretty cottage was perfect."

It's location has wonderful views & a very private garden. Inside there are all mod cons, whilst the original character has been retained. It was a very comfortable place to come back to after a days walk. I very much enjoyed listening to all the birdsong and we all felt much relaxed & restored following our stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you had a relaxing stay with us. We hope to welcome you back soon. The Owner Relations Team - Heart Of The Lakes Property Owner

  • "We had a fantastic time staying at Thomas cottage."

Very rustic which we like. Could do with a new sofa, after long walks it was OK but could of been softer to sit on. Loved the layout. Woodburner cosy. Views amazing, location superb. Shower was brilliant, so powerful and much needed after a day walking. Beds comfortable and clean. Loved the window shutters, we slept like logs. Cottage had a lovely feel about it. We will definitely be booking again next year. Thank you ❤️

  • "The property was absolutely lovely and in a gorgeous location, we have stayed before but this time the cottage felt in need of a good clean."

A lot of the surfaces were dusty and sticky. The facilities are excellent though and we had a good stay.

  • "We've stayed at Thomas Cottage several times before this trip and must say it is a real home from home."

We really enjoy the convenience of having so many glorious walks on the doorstep. The cottage is comfortable with all the usual amenities (dishwasher, great shower, nice bed/bedfing). One small thing is a hand held shower attachment for cleaning our mucky doggy in the bath would be handy but we managed nonetheless ..!). Thanks, again and look forward to our next visit..!

  • "We hadn't realised quite how remote the cottage was, which was both a positive (peaceful) and negative (long way to shops, pubs etc."

) point. The cottage was very roomy and well equipped. The powerful shower and ready hot water was a pleasant surprise in such a remote location. Some items could have been cleaner - for example, a couple of chopping boards had residue on them! We felt some more comfortable chairs were needed - four people and only one settee for two, a small chair and a wooden rocking chair did not provide enough comfort for four adults after a long day in the Fells.

Thank you for your feedback about the seating at Thomas Cottage. It was helpful to hear this, and we now have provided another comfortable armchair. Property Owner

  • "The microwave table didn’t rotate effectively, and may have caused a crack in a mug."

The induction hob was simple and effective, but the main oven we never got working, after trying many combinations of the control buttons. Two reading lamps were investigated for some time, including bulb change, without production of any light. Excellent garden.

The property

This charming, stone-built Lakeland cottage sits in a peaceful location within the tiny hamlet of Hartsop with its working sheep farms, right in the heart of the Lake District.

The cottage has been lovingly refurbished in a totally original farm cottage style with original lime plaster walls, ancient floors and lots of reclaimed furnishings dating back to the 17th century, yet providing a comfortable and cosy home with 21st century touches.

Enter the property and wander into the open-plan reclaimed farmhouse kitchen to find all the essential appliances and cooking utensils to whip up a sumptuous feast, with a large pine table for all to gather at mealtimes.

The sitting area with its simple yet stylish interior is where you can end each evening amongst the warmth of the woodburning stove in front of the television.

Move upstairs with a refreshing beverage in hand and enjoy a rejuvenating soak in the bath, before choosing one of the two bedrooms to rest your head.

The property boasts both a zip/link super-king-size bedroom which can be arranged as a twin on request, and a king-size bedroom, with both rooms benefitting from fine decoration with original wooden flooring and beautiful kelim rugs.

Spend a moment in the morning sun in the garden with a coffee or even dine alfresco in the evening, with scenic valley views to be admired all day.

A few paces from the front gate, past the neighbour’s working sheep farm adjacent to the house, there is abundance of walking routes towards High Street, Fairfield and St Sunday Crag.

The village of Brotherswater is a mile away and has a traditional inn and a local shop for picking up any essentials, or you can head into Patterdale for a greater choice of shops.

A Lake District holiday wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Lake Windermere where you can enjoy circular voyages around the water before stopping off at Ambleside for a spot of lunch or to browse the many independent shops on offer.

The ever-popular towns of Bowness and Windermere are also within easy reach, offering something for everybody to enjoy.

Boasting plenty of personality and comfort, you will want to return to Thomas Cottage each year.
