Everything was thought of, we were both so sad to leave on the last morning. On arrival there was a procesco and pie in the fridge. The lodge is so cosy. We were lucky as we had great weather which helped. It was easy to get around locally, not too far from anywhere but no neighbours really really close. We will be back!!

!!! This small family run business is certainly one to look out for. The location itself is magnificent, with amazing views! We stayed for 3 nights, and it was just perfect. The hot tub is definitely the thing that captures people for these types of getaways. Enough cannot be said for the location, or the family that run these hideaways. If you want a private getaway this would be the one. I was so impressed with the cleanliness, the overall look of the lodge. We had everything we need. The owners were excellent always there for us when we needed them. It is an easy drive into the Lake District for walks, and site seeing. Not to mention the views themself from the lodge. Its quiet, its private, it unique. I would recommend this lodge to anyone! If you want to relax on some annual leave, or you just want a break, this is the place. I will certainly be coming back, to explore even more. Family run businesses are too and far between nowadays, but this one hits the spot, it just shows there are still small businesses who care!!! Get yourself down to the hideaway and lodges, you will not be disappointed! I just want to say a massive thank you to the family that run this, we had an excellent time, and really wish them all the best.

All the members of this family run business were friendly and very helpful. Shepherds hut was lovely. Great design thoughtfully kitted out and tasteful decor. Huts were well situated and the views from the under cover hot tub were a bonus. We were not originally down to visit here and had to change at short notice but now very glad we did. 100% recommend to anyone and will be spreading the word to family and friends. Wayne & Liz

Loved the little personal touches like the welcome shepherd's pie, pink fizz and cosy dressing gowns for us both, and even a bed, bowl and towels for our dog!! A lot of thought really has gone into these bijou little shepherds huts to make sure you have an amazing time. The owners and their family are sooo lovely, and clearly go out of their way to make you feel truly welcome. We really didn't want to leave! Will definitely be returning at some point over the next year! There's so much to do and see locally, and the lakes are only 40 mins away, well worth a visit.

) From the moment we walked up it was clear this was a special place to stay. The views of the fields with cows and sheep in the distance. And the privacy was unmatched. Walking into the cabin to fairy lights and lovely furnishings was a cherry on top. My absolute favourite part was turning the lights on outside the first night and seeing all the colijrs. Absolutely fantastic. As a 6ft 4 person however I will say the main light in the room may be a tad low, but thst was just a mild inconvenience the first time I walked into it :) Perfect holiday.

The total privacy and lovely views made the week so much more relaxing. The facilities are excellent and has everything you need for a self catering break. The hot tub set up is really good and again private. My only issue is the bathroom that is very small and is made to look much bigger in the online Images, however this did not spoil the holiday.

  • "What an incredible little hut!"

From the moment we stepped out the car we loved it - the owners were so welcoming and accommodating for us and there was a complimentary shepherds pie & bottle of bubbly waiting for us in the hut. The hot tub was ready for us to use. It is such a lovely, secluded area that we never wanted to leave. We drove about an hour away from the hut each day to visit the different lakes but that was personal choice, there is lots of walks nearby and places to visit that we could have. We had dinner at a local pub which was lovely. Cooking facilities in the hut were great, bathroom was lovely and the space was incredible. The views you could not get any better than that, there were a lovely herd of cows just outside the back fence of the hut which was lovely scenery. The town surrounding the hut (Brampton) was great, and a short 20 min drive to the lovely town of Carlisle was great - we did this one day then visited Keswick the next, and Windermere after that. Hot tub was perfect and very private. All round amazing experience and will be booking again. Everything we needed was available at the hut, and the owners were more than accommodating to anything we asked.

There are ample facilities to store and cook/prepare food so we had some breakfast at the hut each morning before heading out and then an evening meal on return. It was lovely to kick back and watch TV on the comfy bed after using the hot tub. The hut is isolated enough to enjoy the long views and sounds of the countryside. From the moment we arrived we were blown away by how magical this place was and we knew we were going to have the most amazing time. We were greeted with the warmest welcome from Brenda and Dave who are such a lovely couple and were on hand for anything we needed throughout our stay. They had also kindly decorated our hut for my fiancé’s 30th Birthday! They provided us with a 2 day food hamper on request which was filled with everything you could possibly think of or need for the duration of your stay, including produce from local shops and suppliers, and not forgetting all of the delicious home cooked and baked items from Brenda herself. We would highly recommend ordering the food hamper, not only was it convenient but everything was such amazing quality and so tasty! The complimentary Shepherd’s pie (which was out of this world by the way) and bottle of Prosecco was such a lovely touch! To access The Shepherd’s Hideaway you go through a small gap in the hedges and down a winding path lit with festoon lights until you reach the spectacular Hut which was made by Dave himself! The hut is decorated so tastefully and is fully equipped with modern appliances, cutlery, crockery and glassware including a log burner, TV, and your own private hot tub with incredible views of the sunset over Scotland. The complimentary fluffy robes and slippers were also great! As soon as we arrived we already knew we wanted to come back, and our parents have booked off the back of our glowing recommendation! My wife and I booked at High Rigg for our "mini-moon" (the original having been cancelled due to Covid-19). We were taken a back by everything about the accommodation. To get to it you disappear through an entrance in a beech hedgerow and follow the fairy lights festooned through the trees to the lodge - totally enchanting and even more beautiful when the sun goes down. The accommodation was of the highest standard and we were greeted with a homemade shepherds pie and a vegetable lasagne plus a bottle of prosecco courtesy of our hosts. The bed was supremely comfy and the log burner made the lodge super cosy. Everything was spotlessly clean and our privacy was maintained throughout our stay. Life didn't seem as if it could to get much better as we sat in the luxurious hot tub sipping on the finest champagne and admiring the endless views towards Scotland. We were so thoroughly taken with this lodge that we had already booked to stay again in 2022 before we set off back to reality. I for one, cannot recommend High Rigg highly enough

About the location

Carlisle 10 miles.

The market town of Brampton is the ideal base for exploring Hadrian’s Wall. The town boasts a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border reivers from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings, plus bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton. In the centre of the town is Moot Hall, which was built in 1817, and now houses the Tourist Information Centre, and there is a large motte to the east of the town, which is 135 feet high and has the statue of the 7th Earl of Carlisle on it. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 120 acres of farmland and woodland, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Two miles away is Gelt Woods, which is an ancient woodland and RSPB nature reserve and has the River Gelt running through it. Brampton is a wonderful base for exploring this historic and scenic area.
