Brenda and David extended a warm and genuine welcome, making us feel right at home. Their hospitality was exceptional, and their attention to detail was evident in every aspect of our stay. The surprise of Shepheards pie and a bottle of fizz upon arrival was a thoughtful and welcoming touch, setting the tone for a memorable getaway. This lodge is set within a private garden which creates a real peaceful environment to relax in after exploring the many places the area has to offer. Had the best time, totally relaxed vibe, fantastic pub within walking distance and lots of places to explore. Met the lovely owner just as we were leaving after 3 days which made us feel very welcome and trusted with their property and our privacy respected. We knew they were only a few feet away if we required any help but didn’t as everything had instructions and was well thought through. Can’t wait to go back and although all the accommodations are In beautiful settings, I think ‘Sunset’ offers the best views and privacy. Congratulations on your vision.

It was so peaceful away from it all . Hot tub was brilliant & relaxing A few minor observations which didn’t spoil our stay & are intended to be constructive 1 A welcome letter from owner with a few simple instructions for heater, cooker etc would be good 2 There were some cobwebs above the chimney over the fire 3 Some form of clothes hanging/ storage would help As I say we enjoyed it but these would have made it even better

  • "We had a lovely relaxing stay at High Rigg last weekend."

The accommodation was beautiful and as described. The owners had thought of everything that you might need, including a filling meal and fizz for your first night. Shepherd's Sunset is located towards the back of the property, down a little walkway so there are no passing cars, if it wasn't for the cows and the cats you wouldn't see another soul. The views were stunning and would change with the seasons. The hot tub is under cover so can be enjoyed whatever the weather. Lastly, the owner is a lovely friendly and helpful chap. I have already recommended this little gem to friends and colleagues, it's perfect!

Beautifully done & all facilities required to make your stay so comfortable. Very private & the hot tub was such a great relax after a day out.We did struggle to find it at first, but just gave the owner a quick call & he kindly gave us further instructions. A lovely touch was the shepherds pie waiting in the oven and a chilled bottle of fizz. We popped up to Gretna Outlet for some shopping therapy, took a drive to Penrith & then into Pooley Bridge, which is beautiful with easy access to Ullswater. Do not hesitate, if you want a relaxing few days away in beautiful surroundings then please choose this accommodation. Thank you for a wonderful break. Julie & Darren

However, the son made us feel welcomed and made sure any issues were rectified. The only issue was the fire alarm kept sounding, but this was fixed immediately. The lodge itself was very comfortable with everything you need, from pots and pans to utensils. The hot tub was serviced everyday and was needed after a long day of walking. We did meet the owner on the last day and he was very friendly. The nights were silent and relaxing which made the stay even better.

About the location

Carlisle 10 miles.

The market town of Brampton is the ideal base for exploring Hadrian’s Wall. The town boasts a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border reivers from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings, plus bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton. In the centre of the town is Moot Hall, which was built in 1817, and now houses the Tourist Information Centre, and there is a large motte to the east of the town, which is 135 feet high and has the statue of the 7th Earl of Carlisle on it. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 120 acres of farmland and woodland, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Two miles away is Gelt Woods, which is an ancient woodland and RSPB nature reserve and has the River Gelt running through it. Brampton is a wonderful base for exploring this historic and scenic area.
