  • "We had a wonderful 4-night stay in this charming cottage."

It was the perfect base for exploring the beautiful Lake District, offering a warm and comfortable place to return to after chilly April days. The cottage was as described, and our young family enjoyed our time there. While the sofa could have been a bit more comfortable, that's a minor detail in an otherwise fantastic stay. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a Lake District getaway!

  • "Fabulous Cottage , kitchen had everything we needed ."

Smart Tv was excellent too . Beautiful bathroom amazing shower . The whole house was decorated really well . Having the small enclosed garden at the back was a bonus with the dog . Only a 29 minute walk to Bowness, 10 minute walk into Windermere. The only negatives were the bed mattress could be better and the sofa’s downstairs were not the comfiest. However I will definitely be using Lakestone again .

  • "Had a lovely time staying in the cottage for a long weekend!"

The kitchen was very well equipped. If you’re planning on coming here, then I recommend bringing extra toilet roll (as mentioned in other reviews) the plug in the bath is also still broken so it drain’s constantly when you’re in it. Also bear in mind that logs are not provided for the fire which we didn’t mind going to get but would’ve been nice to know ahead of time so we were better prepared. The cottage is beautiful and we hope to return in the future.

  • "The cottage is a great location to Windermere, a short walk see’s you amongst the shops and cafe’s."

The beds were warn and uncomfortable, the bedding was ripped. The sofa’s were also quite creaky and uncomfortable. The bathroom is very nice, although much like a previous review - the plug in the bath doesn’t work. I tried to have a bath and it was a waste of time. However, it would seem that flagging these issues don’t really make change, there is still only 4 cups, 4 folks, no toilet rolls and we only had two towels left for us. The cottage is pleasant, it’s nicely done inside and the fire is lovely after a day on the Fells. A shame that the company/owners don’t react to the negatives to improve this stay for others. The reviews are at least a heads up to the next guests that they can’t expect a comfortable sleep or hot bath.

Like the decorating that's been done downstairs and to the room on the 2nd floor, big improvement. First impressions count so maybe tidy the appearance of the front garden and a new porch door. Comfortable, clean cottage.

  • "Broken mirror in the bathroom is dangerous."

Shower has a weird window that juts out, very easy to bang you elbows on it when showering. Bath plughole didn't work, so no relaxing bath! Summer duvets in -4°C in January. 4 forks and 4 mugs in the whole house, 2 random wine glasses, but 10 prosecco glasses? Only 3 chairs for the dinner table in a 4 person listing house - Had a foldy chair under the stairs but not very nice for paying customers, is it? No kitchen roll provided at all, and only 1 toilet roll for 4 people for a week. No frosting on bathroom window so you have to put the blinds down every single time you go to the toilet! Form over function as the house looks great on arrival, but the moment you scratch the surface it becomes obvious it's missing even the most basic things. Would not go back, and we are always coming to Windermere for work, but there are better places for the price.

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the issues encountered. Unfortunately the missing dining chair was broken by a previous guest and a matching replacement is on order. The folding chair is a temporary measure. Thanks for reporting the missing items in the kitchen and the mirror, these will be replaced ASAP. I will speak to housekeeping regarding additional toilet roll. Property Owner

4 of us and a dog had plenty of space and good facilities. Reading previous reviews I took things such as loo roll, bin bags, sponge etc but seemed the company had listened to feedback and all were available. One improvement could be more than one set of cutlery/glasses and a welcome pack of milk and tea would have been appreciated. Thank you

  • "Fantastic location, property as described."

Very clean when we arrived which was appreciated, bedding and towels good quality. Very minor improvements - the front porch, door, guttering all need some TLC - they definitely don’t match the quality of the interior of the property. Equally, some little extras (eg. washing up brush, more toilet rolls) would have been appreciated! Brilliant stay overall - and wouldn’t put us off booking again!

  • "Lovely cottage."

Very clean and really happy with stay. We chose the place as dog friendly and pleased you couldn’t tell dogs stayed here before. Easy to find and parking was great. Only suggestions would be that a welcome pack would have been nice about the place rather than signs on wall. Maybe some milk in fridge or few goodies? Other places have this and is a nice touch. The other reviews about the appearance outside property are correct as look unloved but we stayed in October so no need to sit out.

Peeling paint back and front. Rotting guttering, broken step on the rear. The back yard was not appealing and the garden furniture needed cleaning. The inside was spotless modern and comfortable. The only things missing were a pair of scissors in the kitchen, a mirror and hairdryer in the upstairs bedroom. Unfortunately we had to call Sykes because the shower wasn’t draining properly. This was dealt with immediately to our satisfaction straight away.

We loved that we could control the heating and could make it perfect for us. The house was spotlessly clean. We loved the location and it suited us well. The only downside for us was the sofas & beds weren’t as comfortable as we’d hoped, although this wouldn’t stop us from booking again. Great park up the road for taking the dog to the toilet as he wasn’t a huge fan of the garden (lots of gravel). Would certainly recommend the cottage to others and reconsider booking for the future; thank you.

Small shop at end of street for any essentials. Fabulously clean and tidy. Comfy beds. Well stocked kitchen, had everything we needed for our stay and a decent sized table and chairs for 4 to eat at. Free reign to adjust heating as necessary which was great and house warmed up very quickly. 2 lovely double bedrooms and a large bathroom with separate shower and bath. Our girls used the small TV room upstairs too. Parking was fine, right outside property for unloading etc. Small yard at rear with table and chairs for the warmer months. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

  • "It's a beautiful cottage throughout, with everything required for a comfortable stay."

It was very clean throughout. We stayed during the extreme heat and due to having a dog we stayed indoors during the hottest time of the day and found the property cooling. There were plenty of games,DVD's and books to keep us occupied. I thought I read prior to going that tea towels weren't provided but when we arrived, there were two provided together with a cleaning pack containing a dish wash cloth, scourer, black bin liner, and dishwasher tablets. I took my own dishwashing liquid and paper kitchen towels but that's something I always do. The kitchen is also suitably stocked with every type of pot/pan you require to prepare your own food unless, of course, you prefer to take out. There's a large 60/40 fridge freezer which is more than adequate for a week for 4 persons. There was even a bowl for the dog. There is a small cloakroom off the kitchen that housed the washing machine, hoover, iron, ironing board, mop, washing basket, pegs, high chair, and outside seating cushions. The small backyard is covered in shingle and had a garden table and four chairs. The parasol was found in the outhouse which is secured and opened with the same code as the keysafe at the front of the property. The bathroom was huge and gorgeous with a very deep bath and a separate walk-in shower with plenty of towels provided. There were two toilet rolls provided, so if you require any more you'd have to either bring them or purchase them. There was also a small amount of liquid soap in the bathroom however I'm not sure whether this is provided or whether it had been left by a previous guest. My advice would be to bring your own, just in case. Both bedrooms were a good size and each had double beds, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There were plenty of coat hangers in each wardrobe which was refreshing as usually, I find they are lacking in holiday properties. A hairdryer and diffuser were found in the chest of drawers on the first floor. I even noted a travel cot under the bed. The bedrooms are on separate floors and on the top floor is a small office-type room housing a desk, chair, futon and wall-mounted tv. My teenage daughter loved it and spent time reading there. The property is situated about a 10-15 min walk from the centre of Windermere and a 25 min walk from Bowness. There is an incline to get to the property from Windermere but it isn't too steep and as someone with a heart issue I didn't find it difficult. However, depending on the route you take, the incline from Bowness is much more difficult and anyone infirm may find it a challenge. There is a corner shop at the end of the road for any essentials you may need. I have three small criticisms and that would be in regard to:- 1. The double bed on the first floor. It's quite soft and whenever my husband turned in the bed the movement was so great it woke me up. 2. A tall mirror would be beneficial on the 2nd floor - there was only a small cosmetic mirror provided. 3. The first aid kit needs to be replenished. One of us developed a blister and need a plaster but there were none in the kit. It's a super property and a great base from which to explore the area and I would definitely return and highly recommend it.

Neighbourhood very quiet area and close to all amenities. Windows could do with a clean outside too. I thought you had until 10 am on your departure day, it was just after 9.30 when we departed as soon as we got in the car a woman was out of her car and down the steps. As you have to leave the house as you find it, it will only take an hour at the most to tidy round and remake the bed so why you can’t actually get into the cottage until 4 PM I’ve no idea. Obviously crockery pots pans and glasses aren’t checked we found a dirty pan and 2 drinking glasses one with a crack and another with a bad chip . Oh and one last point lovely shower but rather slippery.

  • "This property is in need of some love and attention."

The front garden is overgrown and does not have a seat outside as the image suggests. The paint and gloss work inside is looking tired and the carpet needs a good clean. The oven does not shut properly (I did contact prior to my arrival to ensure this was fixed since it was flagged up by a previous guest…it has not been fixed. The door issues however have been resolved). The shower would overflow and needs the drains unclogging. The toilet seat hinge snapped while we were there. It looked corroded so couldn’t be helped but seemed like another example of this house needing some maintainable. The mattresses on the bed were extremely uncomfortable and when we stripped the beds I was mortified to see the state of the quilt we had slept in.

  • "Very disappointed with this cottage."

The pictures used to advertise the property must be very old and do not show a true representation of the current state. The advertised ‘Enclosed rear patio / garden with patio furniture’ are not as pictured. The patio areas are covered with weeds and the furniture has gone. There is not a ‘Secure bike shed’ as listed. The lock- up in the back yard had old furniture and logs in it so there is nowhere to keep bicycles safely. There were no mattress protectors on the beds and the provided bed linen was of poor quality. The oven was broken and although this had been reported by two sets of guests prior to us, nothing had been done about it. The crockery is not the same as that pictured, instead there is old chipped crockery with cracked glazing, totally unhygienic. There has clearly been a change of ownership and the new owner hasn’t redecorated or spent much time making the cottage comfortable and there has been no quality control by the cottage company. I would not recommend at all.

  • "While generally satisfactory it failed in the following: 1."

The fire extinguisher validity was years out of date. 2. The first aid kit validity was years out of date, a pack of bandages was partially used. 3. While there was a fire blanket it was not in the kitchen and rather was on a shelf in another room, time would be lost locating it. As it was not fixed to the wall it would require two hands to access. 4. On arrival a number of cups, plates and glasses were chipped and/or cracked. 5. Not all of the pillows had pillow protectors and only one bed had a mattress protector. 6. The oven door could not be closed and although this had been reported by the previous occupant and by ourselves during our stay, it remained unresolved. 7. The draining board area is of poor quality and water does not drain leaving crockery sitting in puddles. It simply require a dish draining rack to be supplied. 8. The most serious issue, faulty door locks, was resolved within 48 hours of us reporting it. However it is of concern that the previous occupants had reported this earlier. The housekeeper used the key she left in the key safe. She would have been aware the outer front door lock was faulty. The back door was impossible to open and had seized up. It is surprising this had also not been noticed by the housekeeper and reported.

Firstly, we had a major issue with locking and unlocking the main entrance door, which needs to be sorted as this could be a fire exit hazard. Secondly, the main oven door did not close properly, which we didn’t use as it released heat and shouldn’t be used especially around children. The rest of the property was well maintained, comfortable and clean. Best regards Jonathan Hostler
