  • "Helen and Richard are wonderful hosts, our welcome made us feel like friends."

They had gone to exceptional lengths to make West Reins a home away from home. The welcome pack, flowers and extras were a special touch. Views? Spectacular on sunny days and dull days. It has been the best Sykes cottage we have stayed in. 5 star. Thank you so much Helen and Richard.

  • "Fantastic cottage, so clean & comfortable & spacious."

Lovely to have meals in the conservatory watching the lambs playing, with a very scenic background. Welcome basket of goodies much appreciated. Friendly hosts, around, but not intrusive. A short walk into the village with good shops, chippy & many local walks. Highly recommend.

  • "A great, well equipped cottage with lovely views and equally lovely owners."

We were given a generous welcome pack plus fresh flowers. The owners live next door and Helen was always on hand if needed with nothing being too much trouble. One of the best cottages we have stayed in and we would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting to explore the area. It’s a short walk into the pretty village of Middleton with essential shops and more. If you don’t feel like cooking the food at the Teesdale Hotel is very tasty and reasonably priced.

Everything you could need and more. The village is just a short walk away with tea shops, small supermarket. It certainly is a walkers paradise, with walks from the doorstep. Barnard Castle is just a short drive away. The owners are not intrusive in any way but are there if you need them. Would certainly recommend. Thanks for making our holiday one to remember.

  • "This was our second stay at West Reins and we have booked yet again."

We think that says it all! The attention to detail both in the accommodation and equipment, as well as the most wonderful welcome "pack", show that Helen and Richard really care about their guests and want them to have the best holiday experience in their beautiful cottage. The access to stunning countryside, either on foot from the cottage, or a short drive away, makes it a perfect base from which to explore the area of Upper Teesdale. Or just sit in the conservatory & drink in the view!

There is nothing to fault about it. Everything is 10 out of 10. Highly recommended. The underfloor heating at the time of year we went (December) meant walking on it barefoot was not a problem. The welcome pack was 2nd to none. Helen, the hostess, was fabulous and very welcoming.

We received a lovely welcome from Helen, the basket of goodies left was very generous and thoughtful. We very much enjoyed sitting in the conservatory looking out at the beautiful view. We have stayed in many self catering cottages over the years and can honestly say West Reins fully deserves 10 out of 10.

  • "If Carlsberg did holiday accommodation, I'm not sure they'd be able to surpass West Reins."

It really is one of the most beautiful, comfortable, thoughtfully put together holiday rentals I have stayed in for many years. Directions were spot on, parking was easy and access to the property was without incident. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely welcome basket containing wine, coffee, biscuits, crisps and hand sanitiser, and a vase of beautiful fresh roses. The house was immaculate, the kitchen well equipped with everything you could possibly need, including salt, pepper, oil, tin foil, cling film, washing tablets and fabric softener the living area, conservatory and bedroom were all really comfortable with lots of home touches. The shower was wonderful and there were plenty of towels (hand towels, bath towels and bath sheets). I can't write a review without mentioning the view, it really is breathtaking and we spent several evenings just sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine gazing out across the valley. Helen and Richard were perfect hosts and really couldn't do enough to help and happily shared the lovely produce from their greenhouse. I would definitely recommend and very much look forward to visiting again.
