  • "West Reins is the best cottage we have ever stayed in."

It was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and has great views. We were so pleased with the cottage that on our first night we re-booked for later this year. Helen is a lovely host and provided a great welcome hamper and fresh flowers. There are great walks direct from the cottage and a good range of shops and places to eat and drink in walking distance. We only used the car twice to visit Barnard Castle and Durham.

  • "Had a great stay here over Christmas 2023."

Lovely Host Helen, beautiful cottage with stunning views. Lots to see and do in the area, weather was challenging to say the least but managed to visit High and Low Force, many of the surrounding villages are very pretty particularly Romaldkirk which has a good pub, and Barnard Castle is worth a visit. Would have liked to have visited Raby Castle but maybe that is for next time. Accommodation has everything you could possibly need, lovely welcome hamper and even the Christmas decorations and tree were tasteful and made it feel very Christmassy. This is a cosy retreat with fantastic countryside views, did not want to leave! There is a butchers, co-op store and fish and chip shop within walking distance and some lovely country walks close by.

The views from the conservatory and kitchen are amazing. We were warmly greeted by Helen and we knew she was on hand if we needed anything. It was a lovely surprise that the cottage had been decorated for Christmas. The welcome basket was a real treat. Great location for visiting High Force, Barnard Castle and Bowes Museum.

The cottage is in a good location with just a short walk into the village and lots of nice longer walks straight from your doorstop so didn’t have to use the car. Not only that but we have already booked a fourth next summer. The owners have created a home from home with breathtaking views over the Durham Dales. Those looking for somewhere to relax need look no further. We are happy to “just be” and take stock, with the occasional local walk. There are lots of places to visit locally and the owners local knowledge of the area will be happy to help.
