The place is clean and cozy. The people that live in the area are so friendly and will always smile and say hello to you. My dog loves going on his walks in the area to try and spot the rabbits and loves that there’s sheep so close to him. We will definitely come back here as much as possible.

The cottage is absolutely stunning and homely, the best we have stayed in. Excellent for the dogs too. Brilliant for watching Red squirrels and location perfect. A great base to explore the beautiful Pennines and the lakes. We loved the village of Nenthead, the locals were all very welcoming, the model village just out the back was a wonderful surprise too. We cannot wait to come back to Tree tops next year, thank you so much for a wonderful holiday.

A few little complaints like loose flags in the back yard, tiles in bathroom also coming loose and front door very hard to lock from the inside. But we would love to come back!

  • "Lovely area, great village."

Tree Tops clean and comfortable. One or two little niggles - the toilet seat was broken, outside table was badly burned and the outside area was disappointingly scruffy which let the property down.

Thank you for leaving a review. We are so pleased you found Treetops clean and comfortable and we hope you had a lovely time. Thank you for letting us know about the toilet seat and outside area, we will get this looked at straight away. Unfortunately the outside table was damaged by previous guests and we are in the process of replacing it. Thanks again for staying at Treetops. Property Owner

  • "This was our second stay at Tree Tops and it was just as wonderful as the first time we stayed."

The property is beautiful, very well thought out and well maintained. It truly is a home from home. The bedrooms are generous in size and beautifully decorated, the beds are super comfy and you're guaranteed a great night's sleep. The downstairs is also generous in size and the kitchen dinning area is the perfect entertaining space. The kitchen is well equipped and having the luxury of a double fridge / freezer is fantastic. The location is peaceful but it also has local amenities within walking distance, and Alston is only a short drive away. There are plenty of places to visit as well and all within easy reach of the property - which makes it a great base for exploring.

Thank you for your lovely review and coming to stay with us a second time. We are so pleased you enjoyed it as much second time round and had a lovely time. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely stunning property, did not disappoint."

We will definitely be returning. The property has been renovated to an outstanding level and in keeping with the age of the cottage. Loved the open plan feel of the downstairs area and the kitchen is really well equipped. The bedrooms are all an excellent size and the bathroom is beautiful. Outside the garden is a decent size but would benefit from an additional gate to stop children or dogs getting to the gate at the front of the property. One last things, the boiler makes a rather large banging noise when the radiators upstairs come on. Overall 10/10 property and outstanding area.

Great kitchen, well appointed, a pleasure to cook in and a lovely social space for meals and drinks. Comfortable beds, grand bath and shower, lots of hanging space and wooden hangers too ! Lounge in the lounge? we certainly did and the TV with all the channel and streaming options provided endless entertainment. With such amazing scenery on the doorstep and a vibrant and welcoming local community, Nenthead really suited us and we take very fond memories as well as a raft of stunning photos with us as we leave

Very comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. The photographs do not do it justice as we much more spacious than we thought Just feel the front gate needs attention in the way of a lock. We did close properly on exit, but found a couple times it was open on our return and the handle fell off a couple times. All in all though, one of the nicest we have stayed in

  • "Treetops is the most delightful place to stay, it is truly a home from home."

It has generous sized bedrooms, with quality furnishings and the very comfortable beds. The bathroom has the most wonderful shower and bath, and again is fitted to a very good standard. The downstairs of the property is also of generous proportions and is very well thought out. The kitchen / dining space is huge and allows for everyone to be together whilst cooking and eating. Both the living room and dining room benefit from the log fire and it makes the place feel even more homely. There are lovely little touches such as a pint of fresh milk in the fridge along with some tea, coffee, biscuits, chocolates and even a few dog treats on arrival - which are very much appreciated. The outside space is also of a good size and is secure which is very useful when taking a dog. There's ample on street parking for two cars (possibly more) directly outside the property and access to the property is simple and straightforward. We had the best time here, it was lovely and peaceful but also only a short walk to the local shop and amenities. We genuinely can not find fault with anything. We had great communication with the owners, who were friendly and polite. Its safe to say we will be returning next year and we can't wait to do so!!

The property

Alston 4.5 miles.

Tucked away in Nenthead, Cumbria, near to the bustling town of Alston, is this contemporary end-terrace cottage, Tree Tops.

Sleeping up to six guests in a spacious property, Tree Tops is ideal for a family or group looking for a getaway in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the North Pennines.

Upon entering the cottage, you are immediately greeted by a bright and airy kitchen/diner, containing everything you need to host a dinner party for friends or family, including a lovely corner couch with a rustic wooden table, double electric oven and Smart TV for entertainment; start the woodburning stove and ease your feet on the underfloor heating after a long day of exploring.

With dinner done and dishes in the dishwasher, retire to the peaceful sitting room just next door for a film night.

Heading upstairs, Tree Tops has three double rooms with storage space for hiking gear or your best going out clothes, as well as a bathroom featuring a large walk-in shower and free-standing bath for a refreshing end to the day.

Back on the ground floor, the French doors in the sitting room lead to a quaint patio with Tree Top’s spectacular stone wall as a backdrop, whilst you enjoy your morning coffee on the picnic bench.

The cottage is just around the corner from a shop, where you can stock up on the essentials, whilst wandering around the quiet Nenthead, which also has the fascinating Nenthead Mines for guided trips underground, the village also hosts The Hive - a converted Weslian Chapel that now is a wonderful licensed cafe, art gallery and craft shop, serving amazing food, cakes and drinks.

For a more bustling village, Alston is a short journey away, with pubs, restaurants and cafes to enjoy, historic cobbled streets to explore and local specialities to try.

A little further south west lies Melmerby, a small village at the foot of the Pennine scar that boasts picturesque views, winding streams and sits at the edge of Eden Valley for spectacular walks.

Just beyond Melmerby, you will find Penrith, a busy town known for its impressive 14th century castle, Roman Museum houses to discover local history and plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing and canoeing, as well as cinemas, leisure and cultural centres.

Resting on the edge of The Lake District, you'll find ample opportunities for walking and watersports.

About the location

NENTHEAD

Alston 4.6 miles; Stanhope 15.4 miles; Penrith 24.4 miles.

Nenthead is one of the highest villages in England and has a rich mining history. Many mines still remain which are open to the public and waiting to be discovered. The village was also the first to have electric street lighting due to the excess power created by the mining industry. This is a fantastic base for those looking to explore the area as the village has a pub, restaurant, shop/Post Office, children’s play area and a church set in an elevated position. There are a number of attractions available in the nearby area including taking a ride on one of the lovingly-restored steam and diesel engines through the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne valley on the South Tynedale Railway. The River Tyne is also noted as one of the finest salmon rivers in England and day-ticket fishing is available locally. With the entire North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on your doorstep you will need to return again and again to the area to explore everything there is on offer.
