Macaw Cottages No 4A

The cottage was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated with well equipped modern kitchen appliances The bathroom has a shower that is easy to control no freezing or scalding to find the perfect temperature.

It's a lovely position close to the centre of the village. The ideal scenario for guests who are keen walkers. We parked on Faraday Road only a short walk from the Cottage. No restrictions or charges. Lovely break highly recommend. Maggie & Tony. September 2026

Superb holiday let.

The property is Very clean and warm The juliette balcony is fantastic The upstairs living space has everything you need Downstairs, the bathroom and bedroom are amazing And the village has a wide variety of watering holes to suit ALL tastes

Wonderful accommodation, extremely clean, with everything needed and a fabulous location in the town center.

My only comment is that visitors need to be advised that parking is on the road behind the property, which is located in an alleyway off the road, as sat nav may send you round in circles.

We had a great few days staying at Mackaw cottage in Kirkby Stephen, the cottage is quite modern with a beautiful lounge/dining area, the huge bed was really comfortable, bathroom facilities excellent, a really beautiful cottage with easy access to the high Street.

We will definitely stay here again

A comfortable property which is an upside down house.

This was great in the recent heatwave as the bedroom remained cool overnight. Kirkby Stephen is a good base for walking and enjoying the Lake District. There are local walks for those less adventurous. Lots to see and do.

Always such a pleasure to stay at Macaw Cottages, so comfortable and clean, with every thought having been put into making it the perfect holiday cottage for a couple.

Really nice place to stay with a modern setup in side with all update appliances for you to use ans shops just on your dooe step for all you need.

Beautiful cottage great location, everything you need, lovely and warm.

Only one issue the settee was not very comfortable but the arm chair was comfortable. Our favourite places to have a drink was the la nook and the taggy man very cosy. Must go to The Tan hill inn we had our tea there excellent 20 minutes by car.

Really enjoyed are 4 days in Macaw cottage we were privileged to see 2 of the macaws on Monday Kirkby Stephen is a lovely town done some lovely walks had some lovely lunches in the local pubs all were excellent we also took the train to settle over the viaduct we highly recommend Macaw cottage thank you Katie

The Macaw cottage was a lovely place to stay for a relaxing break.

The owner Katie had provided everything that you would need, and was on hand if you needed anything ( which we didn't). The locals where really friendly, we enjoyed the local micro pub La'l Nook where we were made to feel welcome. Plenty of places to eat, either in or as a takeaway, the Chinese food was excellent.

Such a beautiful and welcoming place.

Me and my partner really enjoyed our stay, the bed was cosy, the living space was perfect to relaxing in the evening. Definitely recommend it to anyone for those who want to get away and relax.

We loved this little cottage.

It has everything you hope to have when you stay. It has been thoughtfully modernised and furnished beautifully. A real gem. It is exceptionally clean and very well maintained. Loved the location just off the high street as it’s so central but also quiet too. Friendly place and lots of walks from the doorstep too. Both loved our stay here and would like to return one day.

Great little cottage in a perfect location.

A very helpful host, and the town is so friendly, as well as being beautiful. There is a little micro pub on the end of the row, La L'nook, where the cottage is, though you wouldn't know it as outside it's so quiet, and the couple that run it, Dave and Wendy are so welcoming, as is the whole town, we'll definitely be back.

This was the second time we stayed at Macaw Cottages, albeit Nr 4a, last time it was Nr 4.

The property is a delight - spotlessly clean, everything finished to high standards, a lovely and generous welcome basket and good and clear communication throughout. The cottages are just perfectly located to explore the Lakes or Yorkshire either straight from cottage on foot or via short car journeys or public transport. Nice pubs and shops very close by, nevertheless the cottage is very quiet at night. The super king size mattress is super comfy! Will very happily come back again and again!

Cottage was very comfortable and spotlessly clean.

The photos do not do it justice!! The location was excellent. Only suggestion would be more cutlery and crockery. This would mean the dishwasher could be run less often. I would recommend this cottage.

Lovely and comfortable place to stay, close to amenities.

We were able to park car close by and never used again for the week. Plenty of places to walk from the doorstep and train station within walking distance.

This was a lovely property with everything for a restful holiday.

ideally positioned in the town, for shopping, entertainment, local walks or to travel further afield. We found the shower tray very smooth and my wife would of like the use of a shower mat. Thank you for the use of your property and will be coming back.

One of the best places we have stayed, we walked into the property and it smelt amazing, immaculately clean, loved the lay out, small but very spacious at the same time, very quite peaceful area, extremely comfortable perfect for two.

Great parking, on a quiet street near by. Katy is a great hostess. There are so many places to eat out in Kirby Stephen it is hard to pick where to go. We would highly recommend Century Chinese, we ate in. (they have take away to) Would highly recommend Macaw cottage 4a and looking forward to returning in the future.

Great central location in Kirkby Stephen and excellent quality cottage.

Can happily recommend for a week's stay. Loved the upside down layout. Can recommend Berry, Grape and Grain as a place to eat (brunch on our last morning) and Brysons the Bakers who do great pies, and rolls to take on a day out walking

A perfect little upside-down house for two.

Tucked in a tiny alley off the high street so walking distance to plenty of real-ale bars, cafes and take-away. Plenty of street parking nearby. Lovely quality bedding and equipment. Could possibly do with a bit more cutlery and crockery if you're preparing your own meals. Lots of great walking either from the door or within 30 minutes drive. We would definitely recommend

A beautifully renovated cottage near to the Market town facilities of Kirkby Stephen. Just a very short walk to shops and cafés.

An enchanting retreat - very well presented and very comfortable.

Originally planned Kirkby Stephen as a base for daytrips further afield. Instead, ended up spending more time at the cottage and within Kirkby Stephen. The accommodation, cafes, bistros, pubs and bakeries were fantastic along with some great riverside walks. Well rested and thoroughly rejuvenated. Thank you!

This has been a wonderful stay at an absolutely outstanding property.

It is comfortable, with a bed you can ignore each other in. Comfortable seating, which is never big enough for us as we are total couch spreaders, but still the large footstool helps. The bathroom is great, I am disabled so the choice of giant barh or large shower was great. Total control heating which wasn't needed as the place is extremely warm. I don't cook, wash, iron on holiday but apart from.no washing machine it is all there for you. Apart from softer lights at the bed, we could not have been more at home. There is a local Fish and chip place, Pizza and pub choices who seem to favor pies. The choice is very good depending on your eating preferences, which wasn't ours, but we ate at anyway as everything is a short walking distance. We would return to this lovely place again. I am quite challenged and managed the stairs and everything was very easy for me. Well done to the owners.

Excellent place with everything you need.

50 yards from a real ale micro pub. 150 yards from a friendly Bistro/Bar. Local Chinese, Indian, Pizza, coffee shop and chip shops. Great base for touring the local countryside.

The location was great, the property was clean, cosy and warm. We really enjoyed our stay there and will definitely look to to be booking back there again in the future.

Maybe provide more washing tablets and other amenities such as salt, pepper and oil.

Great property in a super location

We made a last minute booking to Macaw cottage for a few days getaway.

The accommodations were perfect. Spotless and everything we needed for our stay. It is very central to the village and all amenities. There are a great selection of pubs and eateries as well as shops. There is plenty to do from the doorstep but also the cottage has great access to local attractions. We would definitely return.

Gorgeous cottage in a quiet little village plenty of local shops.

Lovely hamper and fresh milk on arrival. We visited Lake Windermere and Keswick on our stay both roughly an hour's drive. Will definitely book again.

Our second visit to these absolutely beautiful cottages, they are fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy your holiday, we can highly recommend either of the cottages for a lovely holiday.

Absolutely brilliant cottage, well equipped and spotlessly clean.

Thank you for our welcome treats. Just what we needed for a peaceful and relaxing break. Loved Kirkby Stephen which is a good base for visiting the Lakes and other local villages etc. Plenty of walks from the cottage if you don’t want to drive anywhere. Sunday lunch at The Black Bull at Nateby is a must!! The local pubs and cafes in Kirkby Stephen are good too if you just wanted a walk into the village. Will be sure to recommend and hopefully we will be able to visit again soon.

A perfect very comfortable cottage for a relaxing break.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will certainly be returning. It was ideal for us. We really liked Kirkby Stephen and it was great for getting to the Lakes and the Dales.

What a fantastic place to stay.

Everything was spot on and as decribed. Really was a home from home - lovely comfy bed, huge bathroom with bath and shower, great cooking facilities and big sofa to relax on in evenings. The welcome basket of goodies added an extra touch. Set in a quiet street with plenty of parking close by - you couldn't wish for more. Lovely village with plenty of eating places and local walks as well as a great base for touring the Lakes and Dales. Top marks - will definately be back.

Macaw Cottages had everything we could have needed for our trip away.

It was clean and nicely decorated, very spacious, light and airy. Great amenities and in the perfect location within Kirkby Stephen to be able to walk to local pubs, cafes and shops. Only around half an hour drive to get into the Lake District and the property had a very useful information book for places to see, which we found really helpful to plan trips out. Every single thing we needed and done out so lovely also. Just round the corner to the lovely village . The cottage was very quiet and peaceful also.

We found the cottage in a ideal location with regards to the small town ie: shops,coop supermarket ,pubs,places to eat,and a good base for a few walks from Kirby itself.

The cottage has all the facilities required as being of a new re furbished cottage.There are afew issues with regards to the Wi Fi which are being addressed,but did not spoil our weeks stay at all.The parking is just a few yards across the road,which was never a problem to park,So for anybody wanting a few bnights stay in a delightful ,peaceful cottage in lovely surrounding country side ,then i would certainly recommend Macaw cottages.

The bed was great. All newly done and decorated well. Easy parking on a quiet road very close to cottage. The village is literally 20 seconds walk away and lovely shops but cottage was equally very quiet..we slept very well. Would recommend to stay there . Good value for money and only 30 minutes from lake district.

This is a little gem of a find.

The cottage is very well appointed, clean and spacious. The bed very comfortable. The large bath was great after a days walking in the lakes. There is everything you could need to cook in the kitchen, although we made good use of a couple of the local eateries whilst we were there. The location of this property is ideal for access to the Yorkshire dales and the Lake District. We would stay here again.
