“The week before we were due to arrive at the Hayloft I read some of the reviews left by previous visitors one mentioned a stained mattress.”

I called Sykes to voice my concerns and was assured by the young lady I spoke to that the owners would be aware of any comments left in a review and hopefully they would address any problems. When we got into the cottage we checked the mattress and it was still stained we thought we would turn the mattress over and use the other side but that was also stained. There are no mattress protectors on any of the beds so we ended up having to go and buy a mattress protector to safe guard ourselves ...

There are no mattress protectors on any of the beds so we ended up having to go and buy a mattress protector to safe guard ourselves against the stains on the bed. In the information sent by Sykes it informs you that you cannot now because of covid enter the property until later 5pm and leave by 9am (there is no reduction in price for less time in the property). We thought as we were traveling quite a distance we would first find the cottage & then go and sight see & stock up with food, we arrived at the cottage at 11.45am to see the cleaners leaving so we could have gone in at the original time of 3pm. When we returned back to the cottage and being advised that the cleaning takes longer the work tops in the kitchen needed wiping down and during the course of the week we found a chocolate wrapper under one of the chairs in the living room. We had bought some frozen food when we went to get our shopping and then spent about 20mins trying to get the built in freezer to work. It was broken so a note on the freezer would have been appreciated. There is a tiny freezer at the back of the kitchen. There is a parking spot allocated to the property which is ideal for a smaller car but we have an estate car and found the space a bit of a squeeze so had to park in the visitors space. The bin day is on a Monday not as stated in the information pack which states it is on a Wednesday. In the listing for the property it mentions a games room we never did find the games room. Apart from the above the property is nicely appointed and a comfortable place to stay just a shame that other things let it down.

The property

The Hayloft is part of a beautiful traditional Lakeland stone barn conversion, with slate flagstone floors and original beams, nestled within an award winning development in the South Lakes village of Lindale, a perfect place to cast aside the stresses of everyday life and unwind.

Set within the magnificent Lake District National Park, only 5 miles from Lake Windermere, and close to The South Cumbrian Coast, The Hayloft boasts heartwarming modern accomodation, a perfect "home away from home" ideal for couples, families and small groups to enjoy.

Pass through the gated courtyard and enter the spacious slate floored hallway and into the sumptuous kitchen/diner which also features slate flagstone floor, beams and contemporary units, with an extensive selection of first class appliances, for all your culinary needs.

On the first floor you will find the comfortable homely sitting room, again with beamed ceiling plus feature fireplace with electric woodburner type stove, ideal for heat on those cooler evenings, together with TV, DVD player, books, games and tourist information.

The sitting room gives access onto the south facing balcony, perfect for morning coffee or a glass of wine on those sunny summer evenings.

Also on the first floor is the sizeable and stylish contemporary bathroom, featuring a smart white suite with shower over the bath, plus light and shaver point over the washbasin. The Hayloft lies on three floors, the upper level presents you with two immaculate bedrooms, both with original feature beams; a spacious master, south facing, with stylish oak furniture and a comfortable large double bed and a twin room with views across the village providing a pleasing sight to wake up to.

Lindale, a small village situated in the south of The Lake District National Park, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and just a few miles from Lake Windermere, makes the area a perfect holiday destination.

Set amidst the charm of The Southern Lakes, this attractive village, with handy gastropub, The Royal Oak, makes an inspiring choice from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area.

Just a few minutes drive from The Hayloft, brings you to Cartmel, a delightful village to wander around, famed for its delicious sticky toffee pudding, 12th century priory, National Hunt race meetings and gourmet restaurants.

You could also visit Grange-over-Sands, a charming seaside Edwardian town.

Take a stroll on the promenade and return through the quaint narrow streets with some lovely tea rooms and specialist shops including a bakery, chocolatiers, and award winning butchers.
