Another wonderful week at Smithy cottage.

We absolutely adore this place. Peaceful, comfortable and homely, with beautiful gardens and an abundance of wildlife to enjoy. This week, as well as the usual garden birds, we were treated to magnificent barn owl and the friendly local ducks wandering into the garden… Such a treat! Thank you to our hosts Ann and David for being so welcoming. We can’t wait to return.

It is really well located within the Lake District- plenty to do in all directions! Ann and David are exceptionally welcoming and helpful- lots of good advice and local recommendations.

Smithy cottage at Lindeth is an excellent holiday cottage.

The owners, David and Anne take a real pride in the outside and inside space. Everything is clean, tidy and attractive. The cottage is extremely well equipped. The bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is spotless. David and Anne are extremely helpful and welcoming.

From the moment we arrived at the property we were made to feel incredibly welcome by the owners.

The house itself is a beautiful cottage situated along an exceptionally quiet but easily accessible lane. The house sits opposite a beautiful field where you will see Barn Owls, Woodcock, Hares and so much more like we did. Again I have to mention how incredibly quiet it is. Internally the house is beautifully presented, clean and very comfortable. Bedrooms are light and airy, Kitchen has everything you need to cook everything and has a beautiful window view onto a nature wall and a window seat that my 12 year old daughter was sat every day. Living room is cool and comfortable. The highlight for us was the seating in the front overlooking the field with both Ducks and Chickens randomly wandering round. They were really lovely and loved to be fed much to the excitement of my daughter. Finally there is a tree supported swing which went down a storm. The house is just a short walk to Brant Fell view point which gives 180 degree view over Windermere and over to the sea behind. It’s also possible to walk to Hill Top, Beatrix Potters house as we did which was delightful as you take the ferry to cross the water. This really is a lovely place and we will be visiting again.

An absolute gem!

We’ve just enjoyed another fabulous week in this gorgeous cottage. A million miles away from your average holiday cottage, Smithy is a beautifully furnished yet extremely cosy 17C cottage. It feels like a home and has been lovingly filled with quirky curios, interesting ornaments and gorgeous framed Lakeland photography. The kitchen is equipped with every utensil imaginable and a vast array of lovely crockery. We didn’t make use of the log burner this time, but in colder weather it turns the cosy living area into a retreat that’s hard to leave. Anne and David are fabulous hosts, so welcoming and accommodating, they are passionate about the area and have a wealth of local knowledge. We’re grateful to Anne for her suggestion this time of visiting Holehird Gardens which was stunning. And of course for her delicious home-baked cake which is such a welcome treat on arrival. The cottage is a haven for wildlife. It’s so restorative to sit in the glorious, peaceful garden and listen to the birdsong, and if you’re lucky, to be greeted raucously by the neighbours’ delightful ducks. There are wonderful walks from the doorstep too – you don’t have to climb very high to get panoramic views of the picturesque Lyth Valley and surrounding fells. Thank you so much Anne and Dave, we’re full of admiration for the effort and skill you put into making Smithy Cottage the very best holiday accommodation, not just for us but clearly from looking at the comments in the visitors’ book, for everyone who stays, time after time. It goes without saying that we’ll be returning as soon as we can!

Amazing historic cosy cottage.

All you could imagine a country cottage would be. Fabulously serviced just as if you were at home, only with magnificent views of Lake Land countryside. The owners Anne and David gave us a warm friendly welcome. Would highly recommend this cottage

This was our first stay at Smithy Cottage and the only thing that let us down was the weather!

Smithy Cottage was a little gem, so pleased we found it. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and even though they lived next door, did not intrude on us during our stay, but it was reassuring to know they were there if needed. The lemon drizzle cake made for our arrival was such a lovely gesture - thank you! We found the cottage very comfortable, clean, cosy & quiet.... good access for car parking, the beds were very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, the shower powerful and always hot and good internet access.... a must for our 17 year old son! The variety of wildlife on the doorstep was a treat too. We would recommend this cottage to friends and family and hope to return for further visits ourselves when we need to step off the treadmill of life again! Thank you!

As always, Ann & David were the perfect hosts, and it’s always such a treat to catch up, and the delicious cakes made by Ann are an added bonus! Smithy cottage has everything you need and never fails to delight… peaceful and beautiful & the spectacular garden is visited by most wonderful wildlife. A fabulous cottage with all you need .

Some lovely local walks and not too far to drive for other attractions. The garden and wildlife were amazing so many little birds buzzards barn owl red kites. Hares deer stoat are just a few. Anne was lovely and so was her delicious coffee and walnut sponge. We will definitely return for another visit. Thank you for making us feel so welcome

We had a lovely, relaxing week at pretty Smithy Cottage.

We enjoyed playing croquet on the beautiful lawn next to the cottage, feeding the ducks from the nearby field and seeing the many wild flowers in the hedgerows. The cottage is very comfortable and well-maintained, and the hosts, Anne and Dave, are friendly and helpful. A wonderful week!

Lovely immaculate 17th century cottage located in a beautiful setting, with frolicking lamb's in the adjacent farm field.

Very warm welcome from Anne and David our hosts. Lovely home made cake made by Anne went down really well after our long journey. Spectacular walks in the surrounding area where you will see deer, pheasants and other wildlife. Very highly recommended!

I recommend Smithy cottage for a host of reasons.

It is in a beautiful location with lots of wildlife to spot.There are plenty of walks from the cottage. The cottage is comfortable, well maintained and equipped with everything you need. The owners who live next door are welcoming and extremely helpful and friendly. The cottage is very convenient for visiting the local attractions. We have stayed many times and have always had a very enjoyable holiday, whatever the weather!

Another wonderful week at Smithy Cottage.

We were here earlier this year and couldn’t wait to return. It’s such a beautiful and charming cottage, homely and comfortable, extremely well equipped and very clean. Set along a quiet lane, it feels like your in the middle of nowhere, but you are only a few minutes drive to Bowness. The gardens are immaculately kept and the wildlife a joy to see. There are many lovely country pubs nearby.. perfect for a spot of lunch on a rainy day.! Anne and David are the owners and live in the attached cottage, although the walls are so thick you wouldn’t know anyone else was around. They are the perfect hosts.. warm and welcoming and so helpful, yet very discreet in their presence. Another one of Anne’s delicious cakes was waiting for us on arrival.. as was a lovely hug from Anne. It felt like coming home, and we have already booked for next year. Thank you Anne and David for another wonderful stay x

Wonderful stay.

Our hosts couldn’t have been any more helpful and the lemon cake was delicious. Thank you. The property was lovely, tall people beware of the low beams, full of character and everything we needed was there. Set in gorgeous countryside but a very short drive to some great restaurants and Bowness. The thick stone walls were a godsend in the hot weather and it stayed beautifully cool inside. We would definitely stay here again.

Smithy cottage was truly amazing!

! Ann was there to welcome us with homemade cake, the cottage it’s self was a dream, comfortable beds, everything you could think of was provided to make our stay like a home from home. The garden and outdoor areas were beautiful!! so peaceful on an evening sitting with a glass of wine after a long day walking the fells. Would Highly recommend and hope to be back soon.

Our second visit to the fabulous Smithy Cottage, which was just as wonderful as our first.

Anne & David are amazing hosts and just lovely, and really made sure we were well looked after, going above and beyond in too many ways for us to mention here - nothing was too much trouble. The cottage is spotlessly clean, well equipped with everything you could need and is full of charm and character. The gardens and grounds are immaculate and the property sits in a secluded and quiet location yet a just a few mins drive from Bowness - fantastic peaceful location. The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. It was so comfortable. A great for base for exploring the Lakes. Such a peaceful place and lots of local wildlife to see.

What a stunning cottage.

Very pretty, clean, homely and cosy, with everything provided that you could possibly need. The setting was perfect for us, nicely tucked away down a quiet lane, but close enough to the local villages. We spent hours watching the birds visit the garden, it was so peaceful. The icing on this very lovely cake, was Ann and David, the owners who live in the attached cottage. They made our stay so special.. they are such warm and welcoming people. We arrived to be greeted with a cheery wave and a homemade cake. Ann also baked more delicious goodies when she found out it was mums birthday.. along with a card & gift! Thank you Ann and David, we can't wait to return x

A delightful, clean, and well-equipped period cottage in a quiet rural lane, but in a very convenient location for exploring the Southern Lakes and beyond.

The owners, who live next door have created a beautiful holiday home that was always a pleasure to come home to after each day out. There are good pubs and restaurants nearby and some pleasant short walks from the front door. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Smithy Cottage to anyone visiting the Lake District.

Surrounded by lush countryside, immaculate gardens and the sounds of the natural world, Smithy is everything that you would hope for in a traditional Lakeland cottage.

We loved it! Smithy is very well equipped and comfortable; the welcoming and knowledgeable hosts were ‘discreetly available’ if needed. There are fabulous eateries, great walks, interesting houses/museums and more formal gardens nearby … something for everyone! We can’t recommend Smithy too highly; it is simply superb! Thank you Anne and David for such a great stay.

We had a wonderful week at Smithy Cottage.

The cottage was beautifully decorated and maintained, warm, comfortable and everything you could need, with a lovely garden and seating area. The location is perfect - quiet and rural, but just a few minutes drive to Bowness and a great location for exploring the Lake District. Anne and David were exceptional hosts, nothing was too much trouble and you can see how much effort they put into creating the perfect home for a holiday. If you are going to the Lake District then I think this is the only place to stay. We will definitely be booking again.

The best ever holiday cottage we have stayed in.

More like a home than a holiday let. Beautiful quiet location but within easy reach of Bowness. Clean comfortable and very well equipped accommodation. Wood burner a real bonus.

Excellent choice.

Set in a tranquil setting ; house dating from 1696. Has everything a guest could conceivably require. Very cosy and has a log fire( Logs not provided). Only 5 minutes by car from Bowness. Several walks available from the property. Hosts very friendly and helpful. In summary, if you require a period property with character then this is it.

My wife and I have just spent a lovely week at this beautiful home.

(24- 09-2022 to 1-10-2022) Smithy Cottage is a wonderful haven in which to relax in peace and tranquility. The owners Anne and David made us feel most welcome (and even baked us a cake!) The setting was magical, so much so, that we booked another week in June, even before we had finished our stay this time! Looking forward to our next visit!!

Myself and my partner cannot speak too highly of the cottage or the warm welcome we received.

To be met by Anne when we arrived with lemon drizzle cake was amazing. The cottage was so well equipped , clean and tidy , you can't ask for more! We would have no hesitation in returning to Smithy Cottage in the future and we wish Anne and David well.

There aren't words to describe how idyllic every aspect of Smithy Cottage is!

Ideally located close to the hustle & bustle of Bowness, whilst also feeling you're miles from anywhere. Ann & David have thought of absolutely everything to make your stay extremely comfortable & are wonderful hosts. We were extremely lucky with the weather & so made full use of the very generous outside space. A seal of approval from 2 teenagers an added bonus! Thank you & we hope to be able to book again in the future

What a lovely cottage this is.

Smithy Cottage is in a wonderful position, so quiet in beautiful countryside but close to lots of lovely walks and places to visit. The owners have thought of everything to make this a really comfortable stay, are extremely friendly and helpful. We hadn’t been back to the Lake District for probably 30 years - certainly will be returning soon. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We stayed at Smithy Cottage for a week in June and we had the most fantastic time.

The cottage is beautiful and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is in a really quiet location with lots of walks and wildlife around but close to Bowness for anything you need. Anne and David are the most wonderful hosts and even left us a cake which was very welcome. We loved the Lakes-so much to do whatever you like to do on holiday! I would totally recommend this cottage.

Lovely outdoor area & garden to the property itself and numerous walks straight from the front door. Very good attention to detail in the cottage & equipment, with a high level of cleanliness and comfort as well as hearty welcomes from the owners, Anne & David. Can thoroughly recommend this property!

Stunning 300 year old cottage in a beautiful tranquil setting.

Really comfy bed to the master bedroom. Plenty of outside space. The owner was lovely and welcoming and just next door if needed. We would come back again tomorrow if we could! Two points to consider, low ceilings downstairs and uneven stone stairs to the first floor, didn't bother us but something to be aware of.

Loved this cosy cottage - everything was perfect except my husband kept hitting his head because the ceiling was low.

But other than that it was fab x

Smithy Cottage is set in a beautiful location, it’s so peaceful, yet only a few minutes by car into Bowness.

The best thing about the holiday is that the owners, David and Anne are such lovely people. Their care and thoughtfulness is reflected in the superb cottage. It is clean, furnished tastefully, well equipped and immaculately presented. We love the garden, the views and the walks straight from the door. It is set in the heart of the countryside but is only a few minutes drive from Bowness.

A wonderful holiday cottage with everything we needed.

Owners were lovely and very accommodating and helpful. As older users my sister and myself did find the stairs a bit daunting as they were slate and unevenly laid (not unusual for an older property), we were very careful on them as neither of us could afford to have a fall - extra rails would probably be helpful. However, the owners were only too happy to help with taking luggage up and down! We thoroughly enjoyed our week.

We loved being so close to the bustle of Bowness and the attractions of the Lake District yet the cottage is totally peaceful.

Last year your handling of the re-arrangement - denied refund, makes me hesitate.

Wow. Wow. This is without doubt the best holiday cottage we’ve ever stayed in! Delightful cosy ambiance, fab walks straight from the door. We saw a pair of tawny owls just outside the front of the cottage, can’t wait to return and our thanks again!
