  • "A lovely little cottage."

    Nice welcome pack on arrival and everything needed was available. Cottage must of been refurbished recently and to a very high standard. Situated in a lovely small village which had two nice pubs, cafes and a co op. Surrounded by lovely walks.

  • "This is a lovely cottage, in a great location."

    The welcome hamper was very generous. The instructions were very clear and detailed. There was everything you would need in the kitchen and bathroom. There was wood and kindling provided for the fire. The place was decorated nicely and felt comfortable. I have only rated it 3/5 stars due to a few negatives. There is no parking at the cottage. You have to park on a street about a minute walk away, and there is no guarantee that there will be a free space. This felt deceptive, as it states in the cottage description “roadside parking for 1 car”. Also, unless you light a fire, the downstairs is freezing, the radiator seems to do nothing. The shower pressure isn’t great. Finally, the kitchen worktops are an issue. The owner is very precious about them and makes this clear. They are made of wood. The kind of wood that stains very easily, and can only be cleaned with certain products. Not the best material choice for a holiday let. With this in mind we always felt very cautious when in the kitchen and couldn’t fully relax when cooking. Overall a nice cottage, but I wouldn’t stay again.

    Bed extremely comfortable, the welcome pack greatly appreciated. The village the cottage is set in is welcoming, two good pubs with good food and real ales. Nice craft shops and a well stocked supermarket.

  • "A beautifully decorated cottage with all you need to make your stay perfect."

    I went by myself and felt completely safe. The locals make you feel so welcome and can't do enough for you. Thank you for the goodies and the most comfortable bed ever. I've stayed in this village a few times and I'm never disappointed but this cottage is exceptional. I will definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

  • "We have had a fabulous stay at Larl cottage and we really enjoyed exploring the local area."

    The cottage is wonderful and really made our short break so special. The property is a credit to its owners with its tasteful decor and furnishings and is only a 5 minute walk from the village centre where there is a well stocked supermarket and plenty of places to eat.Middleton and the surrounding area is so beautiful with plenty of walks right on the doorstep.We will definitely be returning. Thank you

  • "The cottage, one-up and one-down as it was, was beautifully fitted out and wonderfully situated for gorgeous countryside."

    It had easy access to local walks and shops and to the Pennine Way. We used the car to go further afield for more splendid walking and to visit Barnard Castle. We enjoyed our stay enormously. The local Methodist church was on good form too.

    The cottage is exceptionally clean and finished to a high standard. It is very well thought out and has all the facilities required to enjoy a relaxing break. The beautiful cosy cottage is situated in a small village which as shops cafes pubs etc. The lovely welcome basket was much appreciated and very thoughtful would highly recommend this cottage we had a perfect stay thankyou

    Modern bathroom,and bedroom. Kitchen and sitting area sufficient for 2 people. Welcome pack was appreciated. Instruction binder provided details of fixtures, fittings etc and details of local amenities.

  • "The property is maintained to a high standard with very high quality contents, especially the bedding."

    Whilst a little dark inside, the lights are more than adequate. Apart from a measuring jug which we couldn’t find, the kitchen is also extremely well equipped. Our only negative is that we had no contact with the owner, apart from a pre-typed text response to an unanswered phone call we heard nothing. Apart from that, the text was useful to find the property and the welcome basket was great.

Larl Cottage, a truly delightful stone-built end-terrace cottage, is located in a quiet corner of the pretty Pennine town of Middleton-in-Teesdale, County Durham.

Situated just four miles from the absolutely stunning High Force Waterfall, Larl Cottage has been renovated to a very high standard and provides a tranquil retreat for a couple looking to recharge their batteries and enjoy this beautiful area of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The interior of Larl Cottage has been stylishly restored and elegantly decorated with fine attention to detail throughout, with a beautiful double bedroom with en-suite shower room to the first floor and an open-plan living area on the ground floor.

The owners have added elegant styling and luxurious little extras such as an AGA woodburning stove to warm your toes, a Rangemaster cooker for preparing gastronomic delights and gorgeous designer cushions to sink into at the end of a long hard day.

Outside your cottage, is a gravelled patio area which is a little sun trap, perfect for getting some fresh air and planning your day's adventures.

There is a secure shed ideal for holding muddy boots and bikes to be stored.

A short walk from your cottage takes you to the town centre where you can pick up necessities to help ease your self-catered stay or visit the charming pubs, tea rooms and restaurants.

The surrounding area is perfect for walking and cycling with many routes providing the chance to enjoy much of the local countryside.

For those who prefer to drive, the Northern Dales are waiting to be discovered and visits to medieval Raby Castle with its deer park, Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, High Force Waterfall and Egglestone Hall and Gardens are not to be missed.

The North Pennines is the perfect place for stargazing and has some of the darkest skies in the country where you can see 1000s of stars on clear nights, it is home to stunning landscapes of open heather moors and peatlands, attractive dales and hay meadows, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, welcoming communities, intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past, distinctive birds, animals and plants and much more.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park is also easily accessible by a short scenic drive and is home to a myriad of attractions and the iconic three peaks challenge which the brave among you may try to complete.
