  • "A lovely, clean, cosy cottage."

Sally Anne checked in on our first evening to make sure we had everything we needed, including information on walks in and around the area. All cafes, pubs and restaurants within a 10 minute stroll into the village. We had a very relaxing stay, a nice little get away from our busy lifestyles.

  • "West House was a wonderful place to hunker down and sit out not just one, but two storms!"

We were extremely comfortable, cosy and warm and, given that the weather largely curtailed our walking plans, the birds at the feeder kept us well entertained! Sally Ann, the owner provided a generous welcome hamper at the start, and very kindly checked up on us during the week. West House is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location, well worthy of 5 stars and we fully intend to return.

Highly recommend. Beautiful gardens, 2 large bedrooms. The owner was lovely and very attentive. 2 min walk to the village, shops including co-op, butchers, antique shop, chemist, lots of cafes. The local fish and chips were delicious. Nice bike ride along an old railway line, ended up at a little quaint village and we stopped and had lunch. The cottage was very comfortable can not fault it in any way, don't miss out and book before it goes.

The location was perfect and the cottage was very cosy. Set in the beautiful quiet countryside, and conveniently close to all amenities. We enjoyed watching the birds in the morning when we were having breakfast in the kitchen dining area. Our little two year old boy also enjoyed playing with the toys provided in the cottage. Sally was so lovely and helpful. She generously showed us around the farm and let Henry fed the lambs. He really loved the experience! Thank you so much Sally for the lovely stay! We will definitely go back again in the future!

Sally Ann is a welcoming owner and will sort out any issues promptly. The parking at this property will not appeal to everyone as although you drive in there is a long ( about 25 feet) narrow reverse out with a stone wall of another property on your left . Middleton in Teesdale is a great location for walking and bird watching. The village has two pubs a good butcher and there's a Co op. While we were there the Co op was under renovation and so had a limited, but adequate stock. The east coast is only 1.5 hours away and enjoyed visits to Amble and Coquet Island.

  • "Absolutely loved this cottage."

It was spacious, tastefully decorated, clean and well-equipped. We had high expectations after viewing the photos and those expectations were well met. We had cosy evenings in front of the wood burner staring out the window at the lovely view. And it was also unexpectedly warm enough to sit in the garden on a morning admiring that same view and listening to all the lovely bird song (top tip - put some bird food on the bird table - there's some in the storage room - we saw lots of visitors including a nuthatch). The main part of Middleton is less than 10 minutes walk and we found the service at both the pubs/hotels (Teesdale & Forrester's) very friendly. The food we had at the Teesdale was very nice (decent vegan selection too). High Force & Low Force waterfalls are close by and well worth a look.

We immediately felt at home in West House. It is lovely house, beautifully furnished, very comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is well equipped for keen cooks and the views are just wonderful. We were able to buy all our provisions locally, which is important in these challenging times, and would definitely recommend the local butcher who alongside delicious sausages also sells fabulous cakes! The local pub provides a very good takeout service for part of the week. There are lots of glorious walks close-by and a drive in pretty much any direction takes you through stunning scenery. There’s far too much to explore in a week- we’ll definitely be back!

It broke down altogether on New Year’s Day. Owner gave us a bag of logs for the wood burner pending getting a heating engineer the next day. Not a lot else owner could have done. However the thermostat for the heating is in sitting room which means that when the central heating is on at same time as wood burner the thermostat clicks heating off, thus leaving rest of house cold. The dining room was too cold to use any of the time we were there. Also the vast majority of doors do not fit properly. The door on the main bedroom has to be pushed down to open it. The bathroom door does not shut properly unless you bang it shut.....not conjusive to a good nights sleep if any one needs the bathroom during the night ! The second bedroom door does not close at all ! These are all things that could be addressed easily and without too much cost !

The owner's mum lives next door and gave us loads of advice about local walks, and the owner popped in a couple of times to check we had everything we needed and bought a new kettle instantly when the old one began to work intermittently. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very comfortable indeed, with an exceptionally well-equipped kitchen (not always the case in holiday cottages!) which suited us as we tend to cook for ourselves rather than eating out. The garden is completely private and quiet, so lovely to sit out in when the weather is warm. We have had a really lovely holiday and plan to return to West House within the next couple of years if we can. It is the sort of place we would be inclined to book once a year or for long weekends if we lived closer than Cornwall!
