  • "A really nice cottage."

Showers were excellent (although a bit more lighting in the wet room would be useful for those like me who like a shower before bed). The kitchen has everything you’ll need if cooking for yourself. We only used the downstairs bedroom but the bed was seriously comfortable. The garden is huge but not enclosed so we made sure we always went out with the dogs. Windermere village and associated pubs/takeaways/restaurants is a 10-15 minute walk away. Bowness is about a 30 minute walk via the path at the bottom of the garden. I drive an iPace and would not recommend trying to park with anything bigger as the approach road and turning area in front of the cottage are a bit tight. Only issue for me is there could be a blind on the side window as a path runs a few feet from it and people do like looking in! One guy actually waved at my wife as she was sitting down

  • "Tower Cottage is wonderfully situated, both in walking distance of lake Windermere and in a green area with lots of woodland."

Especially the garden is a delight with the impressive sequoia tree as highlight in it. In two occasions we spotted some deer grazing in the back. The house has got an easy access to several public footpaths - ideal for walking experiences to Bowmere, Grasmere and obviously Windermere itself. We truly enjoyed our stay and had lots of morning and evening walks to the lake with our dog. The house itself is spacious, with three bathrooms , a large kitchen and comfortable beds.In the evening we were able to admire the sun set through the large window overseeing the extended garden. We would surely recommend Tower Cottage to everyone for it is very suitable for doglovers and, or a family with adult children like ours. The kitchen though, might need a little upgrade; some more pots and pans would be handy, also the oven needs some maintenance. Just a note for the owner; most holiday homes provide hand soap and commons spices for their guests but there were not. Fortunately, a Booth was in walking distance.

  • "Great cottage in a fabulous location with a good sized garden but."

...it wasn't very clean, full of cobwebs and grime. Also the numbers and settings have rubbed off the dials on the range cooker so it was impossible to see what setting or temperature you were selecting, also the blind in the downstairs bedroom was broken, also the sun awning was non functional on the back of the house and there was no blinds or curtains in the downstairs living room which meant that the late afternoon and early evening sun was blinding and there was no way to shade it which made it pretty uncomfortable. Finally the garden was great for our 2 dogs, huge, but half of one boundary was not fenced in and completely open to the neighbouring property which meant that we couldn't just let the dogs roam and play in the garden, a shame. Overall it feels like a missed opportunity to create a truly 5 star property, with a bit of care and attention, it would be stunning and a really nice place to be, as it was it came up a bit short.

Thanks for your helpful comments. You mentioned previously, via Sykes Cottages, that you had spotted some cobwebs, but we were surprised to hear mention of ‘grime’; it’s a strong word! If you had advised on arrival that you spotted an issue with cleanliness then it could have been attended to. As it is we have let our cleaners know about your comment and we ask that you share with us any photos you took of the deficiency. As for cobwebs, this is a constant challenge because there are plenty of spiders around (the Lake District is, of course, a nature-abundant place). We will get the ground floor bedroom blinds fixed; it’s a regular one, every few months at least they get busted! You were lucky to experience good weather and some evening sun. We are sorry that you didn’t enjoy the sun flooding in when low in the sky; we think of it as a real pleasure! We aren’t keen on blinds in the ground floor living space, nor a replacement awning, because these would surely get broken too frequently to be viable. We are aware that the cooker dial markings have been worn off by over-enthusiastic cleaning, and we are trying to figure out a durable way to re-mark them. We are happy to hear that the garden was great for your two dogs. Regarding boundaries; it would be a major undertaking and costly to fence and gate the whole garden, the dry-stone wall edge, the hedges, and the open driveway, since these total several hundred meters in length, and we feel this would bring no benefit other than occasional containment of pets. We very much like that deer and foxes and hedgehogs can wander in! We do our best to give Tower Cottage more than a bit of care and attention, and so we thank you again for your constructive observations. Ivana, Tower Cottage Property Owner

  • "We are a family with four teenagers and a dog."

Tower Cottage exceeded our expectations, which were already high prior to arrival. The property is immaculately presented and the location is ideal being only a short walk to either Windermere town or lake. All bedrooms are warm and comfortable, bathrooms are stylish and the upstairs lounge/games room has stunning views and is a great chill out area for the kids. The garden just goes on and on, and would be lovely in the summer. Everywhere feels light, airy and spacious with very high quality fittings throughout. We are so taken with the property that we are considering another booking for later this year. Lovely cottage, great location, very welcoming and highly recommended.

Thank you for your lovely comments. You will be most welcome again, and do try the garden in the summer. Property Owner

  • "Wow! What an amazing holiday we had at Tower Cottage."

We came by train, all the way from London, in slightly over 3 hours. The cottage is in a brilliant location, just 5 minutes walk, downhill, from Windermere train station, near the village with all it offers to visitors, alongside the path down to the lake. We walked everywhere, and you really donÂ’t need a car to have a great holiday in this cottage (for example, Booths supermarket is only a 5 minutes walk away and stocks lovely local produce). The cottage itself is a real jewel! There are wonderful views, an enormous well-kept garden (the colours of the rhododendrons are really something), and itÂ’s beautifully furnished. We loved the designer chairs, comfy sofas, and my favourite was the rocking chair in the upstairs sitting room for reading in the afternoons while watching the sunset. Absolutely perfect! (The cottage was spotless, really well equipped, such as having 4 working showers in its 3 bathrooms). Thank you, we will be back.

  • "We had a fantastic holiday and we were lucky enough to have the perfect weather in the heatwave."

I was a little worried by some of the reviews when i booked but this house is very good value for what you get. The sofas have been changed and are comfortable. I found the dining chairs comfortable also. A few things do require TLC and particularly in the heat having blinds on the windows would have been really helpful as the rooms got sweltering . However we were there in a heatwave . A half blind would be useful downstairs and the blinds are broken upstairs. Nevertheless we would absolutely stay here again. The garden is beautiful with a walk at the bottom only 10 minutes from lake. We could get to bowness and the windermere high street easily on foot also. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. We will definitely be back.

  • "A lovely property which has plenty of space and great views."

Heating and showers all work well. Oven works fine although temperature symbols have all worn away so a bit of guesswork required plus it needed a clean on the inside. Kitchen pretty well equipped. Beds comfortable although some of the bedroom furniture is really dated and drawers nearly fall out when using. Sofas are also uncomfortable to sit on so any evening relaxing is not the best. Upstairs lounge is lovely but I agree with previous reviewer that the property may benefit from a reconfiguration as we didn’t really use it and thought it may be better as a bedroom with another lounge downstairs. Owner got in touch about an issue and was helpful.

  • "What a stunning cottage with an amazing view."

We had a brilliant stay. The view from the upstairs lounge was particularly brilliant but, with the dog we couldn’t spend much time here, so ended up downstairs which was a shame. The garden is beautiful and there’s a lovely touch with the swings and line at the bottom (even as a grown up!) but could do with a bit of a tidy. The only minor gripe was the downstairs sofas weren’t all that comfy after a day on the fells and the logs supplied were damp so we couldn’t really get the stove going on the last night when the weather turned. But a beautiful place which is really nicely decorated.

  • "Fabulous location: a short stroll into the top end of Windermere and a short walk down to the lake which our dogs loved."

Garden was great for our dogs too though you should be aware that it is not fully enclosed, especially if you have dogs or young children inclined to wander. Also a shame it is so overgrown. It was disappointing that there was no comfortable garden furniture just a table, a hard bench and plastic seats. I did expect better given the price. We stayed there just after the very hot spell and I'm glad we didn't want to enjoy the sun outside. Inside, the bed in the ground floor bedroom was very comfortable (we didn't use the other 2 bedrooms) and the upstairs shower was great. However, the rest of the facilities were disappointing. The sofas are not very comfortable and the chairs at the dining table were hard. The Wii upstairs didn't work. The kitchen was short on useful equipment, e.g baking trays and serving dishes. Also the crockery and glasses appeared to be a cheap job lot. I needed to use the instruction manual to operate the range (way too complicated). And finally, I do not expect to have to replenish toilet paper on the second day! All in all and given the cost, the accommodation was disappointing and such a missed opportunity to create a stunning comfortable property in a great location.

The Cottage has great facilities and is well furnished with great views in the direction of the lake. Access to the lake is very easy from the bottom of the large garden - not much more than a 5 minute walk away. Windermere town centre is very close by for shops and other amenities. We'd be happy to go back.

  • "We thought the garden was fantastic and it was a very nice quite location with fantastic views."

The laundry room was very good and the kitchen was well fitted out. The open plan downstairs worked very well too. However, the access to the property was very tight in a large car and the parking area was difficult to get out from. I think having 2 cars there would be very difficult. We also thought the cleaning could have been better, especially as the floors were slate and wood so it needs thorough cleaning on these types of floors. We also didn't like how the main master bedroom didn't have an ensuite and the bathroom for the master bedroom was the downstairs toilet by the front door. The blinds in the main bedroom also didn't fully close and the blind by the other window was missing. We also felt that although the property was nice in many ways, there lacked comfortable seating for the evenings after a busy day of activities or walking. The sofas were more day time seating, but if you wanted to relax in the evening there wasn't anything comfortable to do that on. The shower in the bedroom upstairs didn't work very well, hardly any water pressure from it, but the other showers were great. We felt the upstairs sitting room should have been the master bedroom with an ensuite added and the downstairs bedroom could have been a comfortable sitting room to relax in. We hardly used the upstairs sitting room so having that as the master bedroom might have been a better use for it. It also had the most fantastic views from there. We felt this property would be more suited to just one family staying there on their own given certain issues with it. But the biggest negative was the lack of comfortable sitting areas to relax in on an evening and lack of ensuite for the master bedroom.

The house is perfect, and well looked after. We had such a happy week, with a few friends. We had all we needed and loved the big slate floor sitting room and open kitchen, with those cool Robin Day sofas near the wood-burning stove; perfect for when be came home from our walks. • "There were a number of maintenance issues at the house."

The oven door did not close, the upstairs shower had clearly been attempted to be fixed, the sofas were very old, dirty and uncomfortable. The house itself is a good space but needs some updating of the decor also. We could see from the visitor book that some of these issues went back over 2 years, disappointing that they haven't been addressed. Good location plenty parking for 3 cars, although we only had one but you could easily have fitted 3 in the space if you parked carefully. Nice big garden but not secure.

  • "We had a lovely week at Tower Cottage."

The Cottage was clean, has a good number of bathrooms, two lounges and a wonderfully large garden (although rather overgrown and not secure for dogs that like to investigate, like ours). The owners also thoughtfully left a bottle of wine for us and a pen for the use of our dog, if needed. While there is parking for two cars, manoeuvring out of the parking space is more of a challenge for a bigger car. The best thing about Tower Cottage is its position in Windermere, a ten minute walk into the centre of the town and a 15 minute walk down to the Lake (using the path from the bottom of the garden). We have already rebooked for November. Sykes/Lakelovers were very responsive when we rang about a couple of points and resolved all queries quickly.
