  • "Lovely property with great facilities."

Plenty of room for 8 adults giving you your own space if needed. Central heating kept the property very warm. The location for Ambleside town centre is excellent albeit quite a steep walk back. I would definitely recommend and use this property again.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us at Hillhead and liked the property and facilities. We hope to welcome you back again. The owner relations team - Lakelovers Property Owner

We enjoyed sitting on the balcony listening to bird song . Great location for walks from the house, 10 minute walk from Ambleside centre ( steep uphill:) ) , plenty of space to store all our walking gear and useful utility room to get stuff dry. Kitchen is well equipped, would definitely like to return

Always impressed by the cleanliness and comfort and the fact the owner maintains it to a very high standard. We loved the refitted shower room, so much so we've decided to do the same in our own home. We've also occasionally stayed in other independent properties in and around Ambleside, Grasmere, Hutton in the Forest, etc but none can compare to Hillhead and because of this we have booked again for August.

We were a family of 6 adults and 1 baby and it was extremely comfortable for us all. Having 2 lounges was great to be able to do/watch different things, kitchen had everything you could want. However we could only fit 2 normal sized cars on the driveway but there was plenty of parking on the street close by. Just be aware it is a steep climb up from Ambleside - however well worth it as you are away from the main area but with easy access should you need it.

The Kitchen was the most equipped we have ever had. The bedrooms were great and really comfortable. The Cottage is about 5 minute walk into Ambleside, but it's really quiet away from the town centre and it was nice to sit out on the balcony having a drinks. There are lovely walks straight from the cottage.

  • "Hillhead is a fantastic holiday home in a peaceful location and with a beautiful lounge and kitchen overlooking Wansfell."

It is equipped to a very high standard and lacks nothing. The only problem we had is likely due to its positioning within the hillside which means that part of the downstairs is built into the ground. Although ventilation is good and there is no damp one bedroom in particular (the ensuite without shower) smelled musty. Given the choice we wouldn't have used it but this was not an option, Instead to kept the door closed and windows open to avoid it impacting the other bedrooms downstairs.

Thank you for your comments, we glad to see that you enjoyed your stay. We will ask our Maintenance team to look at the bedroom. Thank you. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

Excellent response from Lakelovers when we called them out to reconfigure a bedroom when we arrived, and when we locked the keys in the house! One small constructive point. It may not be under your control but was surprised all waste was requested to be put into one bin without any separation of glass/cardboard/plastic etc. for recycling. We did leave all the glass next to the waste bin as it seemed dangerous to put into black sacks with the other waste.

We would be happy to book again. Observations - One relatively small oven is not really sufficient when cooking meals for eight people - enhanced TV facilities such as Sky or BT Tv would be nice addition - It doesn't get much better than sitting on the balcony, with a glass of red, relaxing and enjoying the scenery

  • "Hillhead was everything and more expected from the advertised listing."

The quality of furnishings and decor was excellent. In particular the kitchen facilities with its superb equipment, utensils, crockery and cutlery was exceptional and allowed for easy and enjoyable self catering. The view of Wansfell from the living room and kitchen was delightful. If there was one drawback and that was parking in the drive which required some expert manoeuvring which we eventually mastered. You could indeed with a squeeze get 3 cars in the drive so long as they were not large SUVs. The property has a pleasant garden and the terrace is ideal in good weather with the view. The property also comes with membership of a superb health club facility about 10 minutes away in Troutbeck Bridge. Being at the very top of the hill at the Ambleside boundary we initially thought would be a burden, having to walk down to the town and then climb back up but the advantages outweighed the effort. On the one hand we were away from the busyness of the town and virtually in open country, yet with all the facilities of Ambleside just 5 minutes walk down ( 10 minutes up) which proved on several occasions to be a pleasant pre-breakfast walk to get the newspaper and the odd food item ( essential shops open from 7am). We have been to The Lakes over many many years and we can honestly say that Hillhead is one of the very best self catering facilities we have found and hence we all highly recommend for a holiday home for families.

  • "Although the bedrooms were very comfortable there was damp in the bedroom under the flat roof with a smell of damp downstairs."

We were disappointed only 4 toilet rolls were provided for 7 people for 7 days.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at Hillhead: although it was disappointing to read your comment. We have discussed this with the owner who has explained to us that they have had an assessment to check for damp/rising damp and there isn't any here, it is related to condensation. Following the recommendations they installed a device which creates a steady air flow through the property and following on from your comments the owner is having the assessor return to the property to see what can be done to further combat this. We do apologise that this was an issue you encountered. We do only provide one toilet roll per toilet as this is self catering accommodation. We do hope that you still enjoyed your holiday with us and very much hope to welcome you again in the near future. Kind Regards, The Owners Team Property Owner

  • "Hillhead was absolutely beautiful."

The house had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. It was even better than the photographs and took our breath away when we saw the views from the balcony. The garden was a lovely, sheltered, private suntrap. The house is set on a hill so all we could hear was birdsong and sheep. The walk up from the town is uphill but well worth it for the peace and quiet. We loved every minute of our holiday and I wanted to pack the house up and take it with me. Would definitely recommend.

  • "We loved it ."

The house is really well equipped- Better than we could have imagined. Not only is it well equipped but everything is decent quality. We brought things with us (eg a hand mixer and cake tins) that we didnt need so an inventry would be really useful. The only thing we brought that we were glad of was a portable USB lamp for the outside table at night. there is a light on the balcony but it wasnt bright enough and cast shaddows. The driveway is just about big enough for 3 cars - two of ours are little so we managed but you'd not get 3 large cars on. This is a really lovely house thats kitted out like a home and would be great for 2-3 families or 4 couples.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
