Lovely hosts. Reviewed by TraceyOct 2023 "A very clean, comfortable and spacious property in a great setting." There’s everything you’d need for a family holiday, with a well appointed kitchen and washer / dryer. The rooms are all large, with loads of built in storage and we found the beds comfortable. Nigel came and introduced himself at the start, and was very welcoming. It was a nice touch to have some of the basics (tea, coffee, bread, washing up liquid and even shower gel) put out for us. I’d highly recommend a stay here. You’re not right “on” one of the Lakes, but we preferred the quieter setting and everything’s just a short drive away. There’s a lot of footpaths and local walks immediately around the farm, if you’re more active than us. Reviewed by HowardAug 2023 "We loved our stay at The Stable." The location is great and home is spacious and well equipped. Our children loved seeing the ponies and sheep just outside. Reviewed by JosclinAug 2023 "Nice peaceful location, open fire was great." Close enough to both Penrith and Kendal for those who want some shopping or days out, but far enough away that you hear nothing but the sound of nature. The owners couldn’t be more accommodating, would recommend to anyone. Reviewed by SarahMay 2022 "Lovely comfortable, clean and warm." The kids lived seeing the horses every morning & the cats. Reviewed by DeborahOct 2021 "The House was fantastic." Beautiful surroundings, wonderful people and loads to explore. I found the multiple messages from yourselves however, patronising and overbearing. I wanted a holiday away from interference which you failed at delivering with your emails and texts. The cottage itself is roomy and has everything you need, the owners were friendly and on hand if you had any problems. Although tucked away down a lane it's in a good position to explore the area, various days out are within range. There are a couple of excellent pubs nearby (driving distance!) for good food and a handy sized Coop shop for all shopping needs. Definitely somewhere we would return to in the future. Only disappointment was lack of Christmas decorations/tree as staying over Christmas week. Reviewed by JohnDec 2018 "Nigel and Christine were very welcoming." We arrived on a cold dreich day. The fire was lit and the couple ensured that we were settled in before leaving us in peace. If it's a quiet peaceful retreat you're after then look no further. All in all, we liked the place so much that we bought it--only kidding! However, on arrival to Scotland, we rebooked. The community pub, in nearby Crosby Ravensworth has good food and beer and is very welcoming - will probably need to book. Hunter Davies described the village as "one of the most beautiful villages in the country". It is a quiet picturesque village in Cumbria not far from the Eden Valley and about six miles from Appleby-in-Westmorland. It forms part of the parish of Crosby Ravensworth and stands either side of Lyvennet Beck which flows from the south through Crosby Ravensworth and finally enters the River Eden near Temple Sowerby. Nearby Appleby sits at the heart of the lush Eden Valley, and is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain; still today, many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. Visit Appleby in June and experience the famous Horse Fair, the largest Romany gathering in Europe, enjoy a walk on the Pennine Way at Dufton, or explore one of the local cycle trails. With the delightful Pooley Bridge, Penrith and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
