  • "We had a lovely 3 night stay at Wellhope View Cottage."

    The property is beautiful with stunning views at the back. Everything was thought about in detail by the owners and the welcome package of home-baked scones, bread and jam was delicious. Very clean and we had everything we needed. The owners are lovely people and very welcoming. There were lovely walks in the area and we were near enough to visit Hadrians wall. Alston is a lovely place 10 minutes by car. Next time hopefully we can stay for longer. Thank you xx

  • "Lovely short break in this cottage."

    Wonderful views, quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the welcome pack and our little dog was very secure in the garden. Would like to thank Eric for helping us clean our mucky pup after a walk along the river to Alston.

    Lovely cottage would definetly recommend very clean and had everything you could want the beds was very comfy we had a lovely Christmas there the dogs loved the walks my only suggestion would be maybe a little light in the back garden to see at night time when letting dogs out but other than that absolutely perfect

  • "A lovely cottage, in a lovely place, run by lovely people."

    Very comfortable and perfect for exploring Cumbria and The Lakes (about an hour from Ullswater). There is also access to a small, enclosed field for an early morning leg stretch with the dog. I would definitely recommend Wellhope Cottage :)

  • "A wonderful cottage with the best nature TV!"

    The views are phenomenal and being able to have doors to the garden from the living room was a huge plus. Also, one cottage that accepted 2 dogs! Great walks from the cottage and Inna perfect place to explore Cumbria, County Durham and Northumberland. A very clean and very comfortable cottage, warm and well equipped. We didn't use the fire as it was just not cold enough. The owners were super helpful and kind. We loved our stay and would definitely come back! Highly recommend.

  • "We received a warm welcome by the owners of the property and they were helpful in providing information about the area."

    A welcome pack of delicious home made scones, rhubarb jam, butter coffee tea and milk awaited us and was just what we needed after a long journey. The cottage was exactly as described in the advertisement and just right as my friend needed a downstairs bedroom due to mobility problems. The kitchenette was well stocked for those who wanted light meals only or those who wanted to cook a full meal. Cleaning and laundry materials are provided for because of the wastage system in place. The cottage was set in a lovely area of Cumbria and in a location that makes it easy to visit other places of interest.

  • "Immaculate cottage on the outskirts of Alston, that was very warm and inviting."

    Hosts, Melanie, Helen & Eric were exceptionally kind (the welcome pack was amazing) and friendly. The cottage has a beautiful view over the North Pennines. We took the 1hr 30mins walk to Alston down the river, it was stunning. All in all, amazing cottage, with fantastic hosts. Thank you so much for having us. Would highly recommend to others.

  • "Enjoyed a lovely few days away at the cottage."

    The views are spectacular and sitting out watching the sunset and listening to the owls was a particular highlight. Plenty walks down by the stream and short stroll to Alston. Hope to be back again soon. Hosts were very welcoming and friendly

  • "Clean comfy cosy cottage."

    Enclosed garden was good for the dog. Log fire and underfloor heating were lovely. Breathtaking views and the lambs were so cute to watch. Beds were comfortable This cottage ticks all the boxes we had a lovely welcome pack with warm bread and cake. Friendly owners next door. We hope to return.

    The cottage was very welcoming with homemade goodies, it's in a perfect central location so an 1hr each way you can visit lots of beautiful places, the local village is very is just a short distance away with pubs and a petrol station that sells everything, we didn't need the log burning as the heating was perfect

Wellhope View Cottage is a charming 2-bedroom rural barn conversion, blending rustic character with modern comforts.

Nestled in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside, this property boasts exposed wooden beams, vaulted ceilings, and an abundance of natural light.

The open-plan kitchen and living area offer a warm and inviting space, which is completed with a wood-burning stove.

Externally the cottage features a private garden, perfect for al fresco dining, alongside ample parking.

The cottage is surrounded by picturesque fields and serene rural landscapes and offers an idyllic retreat from busy life.

A comfortable twin bedroom and a well-appointed family bathroom are located on the ground floor.

Hudgill Farm Cottages

Wellhope View Cottage is one of two sympathetically restored barn conversions, at Hudgill Farm. Situated in a rural location, two miles from Alston in Cumbria, Middlefell View overlooks farmland which leads down to the River Nent. The cottage is located in an idyllic setting, providing a quiet getaway for families and friends. The cottage has recently been upgraded and is furnished and equipped to offer comfort and warmth. The underfloor heating and woodburning stove offer a cosy welcome after an invigorating day in the Cumbrian countryside. Attention has been taken to retain and enhance the character of the building, with the exposed framed wooden beams and a private garden where you can relax and enjoy views over the valley. Footpaths lead across the moorland and the local area has very little light pollution, so this is just the spot for sitting back and stargazing beneath the night’s sky. Nearby Alston retains its traditional country character, with a selection of welcoming coffee shops and pubs serving real ale and good food. The Pennine Way passes through the town, which is also on the Coast to Coast (C2C) Cycle Route. During the summer months you can visit the South Tynedale Railway and enjoy a scenic trip through the majestic North Pennines landscape. Immerse yourself in the local history at the Killhope Lead Mining Museum, the Nenthead Lead Mines and the Epiacum Roman Fort. Local walking routes are plentiful with stunning views over the local landscape, including the nearby Ashgill Force, which is a stunning waterfall offering a calm spot for a picnic and the idyllic Beldy Waterfall. In the colder months, Yad Moss Ski Tow offers an exciting day out on the slopes for both skiing novices and pros alike. For a touch of serene spirituality coupled with fascinating local heritage, visit the Weardale Museum and High House Chapel. A little further afield and within an hour’s drive, you will find attractions such as Hadrian's Wall, Beamish Open Air Museum, Durham Cathedral, Newcastle and the MetroCentre. The stunning Lake District National Park with its rugged fells and mountains are also within easy reach.

Alston is set in the North Pennines in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by a unique landscape of moorland, hills, rivers and waterfalls, and is England's highest market town. This intriguing town, with its cobbled streets and fascinating nooks and crannies, was the location for ITV's productions of Jane Eyre and Oliver Twist. Alston and the North Pennines have long inspired artists and writers; the poet and writer W H Auden loved the area and today Alston is an inspiration to the craftspeople who live and work there. There is a host of unusual shops in the town including quality crafts and galleries. Take a ride on one of the lovingly-restored steam and diesel engines through the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne valley on the South Tynedale Railway which runs from Alston through to Slaggyford. The River Tyne is also noted as one of the finest salmon rivers in England and day-ticket fishing is available locally. The North Pennines used to be one of the wealthiest lead mining centres in Europe, and the Killhope Lead Mining Museum offers a great family day out with interactive exhibitions. With the drive along the A686 recognised by the AA as one of the world's best drives, and northern Cumbria, County Durham and Northumberland, all within easy reach, this makes a superb base.
