Always so great to stay and a fantastic holiday made especially nice by the warm family welcome given by the owners and Mac the dog.

This was by far the best cottage I’ve ever stayed in.

Christine & Andrew so so kind in leaving a lovely hamper. The cottage was perfect and they had thought of everything. It’s in a beautiful location with stunning surroundings too. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

This was our second stay at Longwell, we came before at Christmas and this time in Summer.

The property had everything you could want. If we are ever back in the Lake District again we would certainly stay here again. To enjoy breakfast while looking out over rolling hills, swallows on the wing, sheep in the fields, wonderful. It was such a peaceful location and only 5 miles from Kendal.

The property was so clean and very true to pictures and description when booking. This has probably been one of the best holiday let's we have ever stayed in and if we ever ventured up that way again would definitely try and book this holiday let again. Cottage clean, well resourced and ticked all the boxes for us. Good base for Southern Lake District and Yorkshire dales. If we return to this area, would definitely want to return to this delightful cottage. Very much recommended.

We loved Longwell House.

The property was equipped with everything to make our stay extremely comfortable, cosy and relaxing. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We would not hesitate to return and hope to do so before long!

This is the third time we’ve visited and so it really feels like home.

There’s everything we need provided, much more than we’ve experienced in lots of properties. The beds are sofas are very comfortable (and I suffer with a bad back) and the views are to die for. Although on a working farm, the house is so quiet and the family very friendly. We stayed for two weeks and were sad to leave.

Friendly hosts, excellent welcome pack and absolutely everything we needed throughout the house from toiletries to bin bags.

Not quite full marks as settees weren't too comfy and we would prefer lamps or dimmer switches in the living room for a more ambient light...this is minor though and just our preference so wouldn't stop us staying again if possible when we are in the area.

My hubby and I had a wonderful weeks stay at Longwell house the location was perfect and central to get to every location within the lakes, it’s situated well back of the main road be careful when going down to the farm as there are sheep feeding at the beginning and are sometimes on the road leading down but they will move and go onto the grass it’s quite a way down to the farm but keep to the left and you will come to the houses you can park on the left and the house is in the middle.

You will be greeted by Christine who will show you around the house and tell you a little about it !!! The house is beautiful you will not be disappointed it has everything you need for your stay it’s very warm and welcoming just like the owners, there is a brown folder on the dresser in the lounge with all you need to know and there are instructions on how to use the oven and washing machine/dryer and the dishwasher if you are unsure, the log burner is easy there is a cupboard at the back of the sofa with kindle paper and lighters in and a basket of wood logs at the side and instructions in the folder how to prepare and light it, if you have never done one before.The Farm was very quiet but getting ready for lambing as we were coming away, very peaceful and quiet pitch black at night but very warm and cozy.The weather was not good rained the whole time for our stay but that didn’t stop us from going out couldn’t do the foot path walks because the visibility was awful we did go to Beetham on the only dry day we had and did the fairy steps walk that’s a good 3-4 hour walk in the forest you need your walking boots for that as it’s quite muddy but a good walk.We had a lovely week at Longwell House very relaxing and Chris and Andrew the owners are so welcoming, and we will be returning, we hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

We loved the location away from the hustle and bustle, the views from the big windows are awesome. It's not far to Kendal for good shopping, Marks, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Aldi. Travel to Windermere 30 mins. We had a fantastic stay.

My stay at Longwell House, Selside, near Kendal, was excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday. The cottage was perfect and Andrew and Christine Gibson, the proprietors, looked after me very well indeed. I intend to return to the farm again in 2026.

Cosy and comfortable lounge with toasty log burner decorated for Christmas was so welcoming. Dining Kitchen with top appliances and a hamper of goodies to enjoy. Very cosy cottage with everything you need

Everything is top quality and there’s nothing cosier than a wood burner in bad weather (which we had).

Christine and Andrew made us very welcome.

The house lacks nothing. It's comfortable and warm and perfect for a peaceful retreat from traffic and urban life. We'll be back.

Spacious property with everything needed for a comfortable stay on a working farm.

The family were perfect hosts. The farm is well-positioned for exploring a quiet corner of the Lakeland fells (we went for a walk above Longsleddale and saw six people all day) as well as Kendal and Windermere.

We highly recommend this cottage, it had absolutely everything we needed for our stay.

We had an absolutely lovely stay at the Longwell Cottage.

The whole experience was heavenly. The cottage is located in a lovely farm, and has the most amazing and caring hosts Mr. Andrew, Christine and family. They took care of every little detail and especially ensured that we were comfortable. The cottage is very cozy, beautiful and equipped with almost everything that you could imagine of. The area around the cottage gives some most beautiful views. Its located very near to Kendal, and has a superstore very nearby. Will definitely go there again.

Every little detail had been considered so we lacked for nothing. The welcome was warm and the farm was a busy place with lambing. Andrew and Christine were a joy to meet.

Beautiful house.

A real home from home. Cosy and comfortable and immaculately clean with easy access to the Lake District for hiking, wild swimming and visiting the picturesque villages. This has become our regular holiday home and would recommend 100%. Owners are very friendly and helpful.

Absolutely love this place.

There was everything we needed and more in the house, a lovely welcome basket and friendly owners. We were very lucky with the weather but when it turned colder the wood burner soon lit up and made the living room so cosy, not that we were cold in the rest of the house! The beds and sofas were good quality and very comfortable which is VERY important when you get to a certain age! We’ve already booked again for November.

Excellent 5* property in all regards.

Pleased to return after a 2 year gap with family now living either side. Everyone so friendly and helpful and the isolated farm location offers splendid walks from the door towards the church and the Howgills.. A scenic drive to Kendal and the A591 connects with the excellent bus service with roadside parking in Staveley and Ings. Many thanks to Christine, Andrew and family for another memorable week. Not forgetting the much appreciated and generous welcome basket of goodies.

Our favourite holiday home in the Lake District!

We keep coming back because we feel so relaxed and at home in this beautiful house. It has everything we need and the owners are very friendly and helpful. A perfect location for walking in the fells and swimming in the lakes or just relaxing in front of the log burner. Already looking forward to our next break at Longwell! If there were an option for 10 stars, that would be our review!

What a gem the best we've stayed at, and we holiday a lot in England.

We're definitely going back. The cottage was spotless we couldn't find fault in it. Christine and Alan were superb hosts and extremely friendly. Even allowed us to watch the sheep shearing. Such a quiet location but the Lakes and Yorkshire dales were within 30 mins. Perfect for our hiking holiday.

The cottage was spacious, very well-appointed and comfortable.

The kitchen was unusually well equipped. Andrew & Christine and family were lovely, friendly and attentive. Very special to have been there during lambing season for us town folk. The welcome basket was a most generous touch, and much appreciated. Surrounding countryside was beautiful, and not too far from the main centres for walking, etc. We will definitely plan to return in the future!

The best welcome basket ever…thank you again.( The freshest eggs we’ve eaten) Longwell house is a convenient cottage to explore the Windermere area and a warm kitchen to return to. Booths supermarket in Windermere provided the quality ingredients for our evening meals prepared in the well equipped dining kitchen. We plan to return next spring.

Welcoming, comfortable, peaceful, and settled in the lovely Cumbrian countryside, our week at Longwell Farm was perfect.

The farm's location made hiking in the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District very accessible. Our hosts, Christine and Andrew, are the best as was the welcome hamper they provided. The eggs from their hens were all double yolked! We loved the sheep, especially fun when the ewes and lambs were reuniting after the shearing was finished. Longwell Farm is our absolute favorite!

We are sure you won't find a more luxurious, comfortable cottage anywhere, in outstanding surroundings.

We had a lovely time staying for a week to relax with some great views of the countryside.

The house was very comfortable, very well presented with a clear eye for the little details. Andrew and Christine (the owners) were easily contactable and very helpful when needed. Lovely people! There was a maintenance issue with the dishwasher but this was dealt with swiftly and did not detract from the holiday. The house is on a working farm, but there was very little in the way of intruding sounds or other disturbances. The location is great for easy access to Kendal, Penrith, Keswick and much of the lake district. There are a few easy walks around the surrounding area of the farm with beautiful views. We will definitely return in the future.

We had left some beer glasses on our first stay, as we were travelling on a motorcycle we left them behind. Cant believe they had kept them and stored them for us. That's how attentive to detail they are. Highly recommend this cottage, can't wait to return again .

Longwell is ideally located for visiting the Southern Lakes and is close to amenities on the outskirts of Kendal and even though it's a working farm it is a quiet and relaxing location. Ideal quiet location on a farm with sheep and hens, but aside from the odd wandering hen you'd never know it (no sounds to disturb the peace) Made very welcome with a lovely welcome hamper. The cottage was spotless, with comfortable beds, excellent facilities and in wonderful condition. Couldn't have been happier with the facilities and would happily return again without a seconds hesitation.

Our week in this gorgeous cottage was absolutely divine.

It was our first visit to the Lake District however certainly not our last. The farmer and his wife made us feel very welcome and the ‘welcome pack’ was such a thoughtful gesture. The cottage is kept to a very high standard and the views are breathtaking. We loved it that much we hope to book again for 2021.

The pre-COVID booking experience was such that I would never choose to use Sykes again.

In total contrast, and I mean total, the cottage and the whole experience of the time there was at the other end of the enjoyment spectrum. The whole place sparkled as if we were the first ever to use it. The facilities are the best we have ever enjoyed - anywhere! The welcome and care by the Gibsons made us feel like family and so much at home. Would we recommend the cottage? Sure!! Do we want to go again? Certainly!! Do we want to have to use Sykes? No way!

Wonderful one week stay at Longwell House.

As others have said, the attention to detail by owners/ hosts (who live next door) add greatly to the experience. The house is extremely well furnished: high quality bathroom fittings, beds, bedding etc have it an unexpected feel of luxury: which you don’t expect on a working farm! We loved the wood burning stove (and excellent instructions on how to get the best out of it!), info on walks from the farm, and of course the amazing welcome basket and flowers! We appreciated being invited to see the ewes being prepared for sale and a tour of the chicken shed (mid deep clean). Despite it being a very busy week for them Christine, Andrew and James always had time for a (socially distanced) chat and went out of their way to attend to our every need. We were 2 couples ( in our 40/50s and my parents in their 80s) and everyone was very satisfied. Due to Covid we cooked and ate all our meals in: the kitchen facilities were excellent too. Oh and the morning views across the hills! Gorgeous. We were struck by the wonderful silence especially at night (no road noise at all): and the comings and goings of farm vehicles and ocasional baaa, moo or woof was never a problem and only added to the charm. Many thanks to the hosts .

Carol and I have stayed in a lot of holiday homes but this is probably the best one ever.

Andrew, Christine and James made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble to them. From the welcome hamper(especially the free range eggs) to all the toiletries etc everything was first class. One morning my car would not start due to a flat battery so Andrew brought his tractor around and jump started my car so that I could get to the garage to get it sorted out!! That is what you call service, thank you. We had a fantastic holiday in the lake district and will return to Longwell house. We would recommend this house for your holidays! the weather during our stay was not very good, however to come back everyday to a warm comfortable house that met all our needs was lovely.

It was the best cottage that we have ever stayed in and the owners were so lovely.

We arrived to a lovely welcome there were basics like tea,coffee milk eggs biscuits etc, the fire was ready to light and the whole cottage was beautiful and comfortable.

Our hosts were friendly and very helpful indeed. Nothing was too much trouble.

This is a very relaxing place to spend time, despite it being a working farm.

We were not disturbed in any way by noise from farm vehicles, animals etc, and it was a pleasure to be there. The owners, Andrew and Christine, are very approachable and keen to ensure your stay is enjoyable. It is a beautiful cottage of character and history and one we hope to return too at some point.

The house was beautiful with everything we could possibly need for a relaxing break. Andrew, Christine and their son James were so welcoming and friendly, we felt more like neighbours than visitors. Even the puppies were happy to see us as we left for our hikes each morning. It was the perfect combination of friendliness whilst still being quiet and peaceful and our evenings were spent reading by the log burner....we didn't even switch the TV on once!! We will definitely be back to Longwell. The location is perfect for Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside as well as for walking in the Lake District or the north Yorkshire Dales. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Longwell House and Longwell Cottage next door is equally beautiful for larger groups. Looking forward to the next break already.

A well appointed, comfortable accommodation with excellent views of the surrounding countryside.

The owners, Andrew and Christine are very helpful and keen to ensure you have a great holiday. The accommodation is situated down a long concrete track on a working farm and it is a car drive to shops, restaurants and other facilities. This may not appeal to everyone, however to those to whom it does appeal - you will not be disappointed!

The cottage is superb, a friendly welcome by the owners and a hamper full of treats- everything you ever need is catered for-the views are divine and just ten minutes from Kendal town centre-Perfectly Sumptuous.

A divine cottage that has gorgeous, comfortable decor of the highest standard.

The cottage has everything you could possibly need, Christine has thought of every thing. Her little touches of Christmas decorations, fresh flowers and superb welcome basket as well as a bottomless wood supply for the fire, made this truely a perfect stay. Such genuinely gorgeous hosts. The view from the cottage is amazing and hard to pull your eyes from. The location is peaceful, yet easily accessible to everything you need and tourist attractions if you wish them.

We booked Longwell House on the spur of the moment so our expectations were not great however on arrival we were met by the owner and her "bodyguard" Mac who promptly made a fuss of us greeting us as if we were long lost friends.

The property far exceeded our expectations and we can say that this is one of the best cottages we have visited from Sykes who we have used over many years. The Gibson family should be very proud of the facility they have created. Thanks to Andrew, Christine and James for making our stay memorable and comfortable. It was an absolute pleasure to stay at Longwell House.

Christine and Andrew have created an ideal holiday venue. It was beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The views across their farmland to the Howgill Fells will stay in our memory for quite some time.

Longwell House is a beautiful well equipped comfortable house in a secluded spot on a working farm with great views.

Its so peaceful away from the bustle of the Lakes but within easy reach. Our hosts were very kind, leaving a hamper with fresh eggs. We'll certainly go there again and recommend to our friends.

We found Longwell House to be a very comfortable and well appointed property.

The farm location was relaxing, with lovely views across the eastern fells and the owners were friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. There is always an increased fly population at farm properties but the owners dealt with this well by the use of fly screens on open windows and across the front door. We had hot sunny weather all week and it was a pleasure to sit in the garden in the evening to watch the swallows and flycatchers. This is a great base from which to explore the Lake District and we would happily return to this property in the future and to recommend it to our friends.

The furniture and fittings and decor could not be bettered. The family owners go the extra mile to make the holiday experience one to remember. To add to that, the surroundings are peaceful and views are spectacular. The situation is ideal for access to north and south Lakes, and West Yorkshire Dales. In almost 50 years of staying in self catering cottages this has got to be the best.

Christine & Andrew have done a wonderful job of converting their farmhouse as a holiday let.

The standards of everything in the house was extremely high and they were perfect hosts... showing a warm welcome and interest in their guests, but not imposing in any way.

This property was perfect!

High spec fixtures and fittings, beautiful views and very peaceful, yet not far to travel to be in the heart of the Lake District. Christine, Andrew and their son were very friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. There was a lovely welcome pack waiting for us and we were very impressed with the whole experience. We can definitely recommend and will not hesitate to book again next time we visit this area.

We expected it to be good but not brilliant.

Fantastic comfortable clean accommodation. Great views, quality appliances throughout and very peaceful surroundings. We couldn’t want for more. Christine and Andrew are great hosts, making sure your every need were covered. You're on a farm with sheep and it was lambing season, great experience learning about the sheep and seeing a lamb born. Good size kitchen diner with full size table, every appliance that you needed was there, but not just basic stuff, high-end quality, such as Denby, Aga, AEG, with great quality fitted kitchen and marble surfaces. Both bedrooms have fantastic views where you can soak in the views. They are both doubles with ensuite facilities, one has a full size bath, both have tv’s, wardrobes and super comfy beds with great linen and pillows. I needed to work so it was important that I stayed connected, we had no issues whatsoever, we believe they are soon to get superfast broadband which would only make it better. Large tv in lounge and a woodburning stove for your extra comfort. You needn't worry about parking and access to the accommodation, It is way off the main road, with a long drive down on a concreted path (no mud track) safe parking. To top it all we had great weather, but that's something you cannot order! Thank you to Christine and Andrew, hope to see you both soon.

Beautiful cottage in a wonderful isolated setting yet just a short drive to Kendal.

The cottage was warm and welcoming. Great to have dry logs and a fire ,aid in the wood burner. A very generous welcome pack with wine, biscuits, tea bags, milk etc. Very clean high quality accommodation. Very comfortable beds. Highly recommended.
