  • "We loved our stay."

The cottage had everything we needed and a lovely welcome package of fresh bread, lovely biscuits, tea, coffee etc. We couldn't fault the cleanliness, I have worked in the holiday cottage business so I know what to look for. The bed and pillows were lovely and comfortable. The owner was very welcoming. We simply couldn't fault it and would love to return.

Thank you for taking time to write such positive feedback. We really try to create a relaxing , clean and welcoming cottage so this means a lot . We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Thank you Gill & Kev Property Owner

The owners Gill & Kev very friendly and helpful and at hand if needed. The views are fantastic from the property and very quiet. The village is just a short walk with ample pubs and cafes with a small very well stocked supermarket. We would highly recommend staying here and would love to come back up and stay again soon. Owner left a lovely welcome pack for us with bread milk butter jam and cookies, which was very thoughtful also provided lots of information on places to go. Views were amazing, we had lambs in the fields next door, which was a lovely experience watching them play. Our 2 cavapoos also loved the trip, enclosed large garden to the rear of the property, and lots of fantastic walks on your doorstep with amazing views, we will for sure return in the future we all had a wonderful time. • "We had a lovely stay at Hudeway View."

The cottage was very clean upon arrival, it was warm and cosy at all times and the views were superb. The location was perfect, as it is situated on the edge of town and feels to be deep in the Teesdale countryside but it is only a ten minute walk into Middleton, which is such a pleasant village with good cafes, shops and pubs. We met the owner on three occasions while we were outside the cottage. She was so friendly but never intrusive. She also bakes the most delicious bread !! I just wish there had been a visitors' book so that we could have read other people's recommendations on walks, eating places etc. and we could have left information regarding places that we had experienced.

Thank you for taking time to write such a kind review It was lovely meeting you both , I’m glad you enjoyed Hudeway View and the amazing area surrounding it. I will look into a visitors book it would as you say he beneficial to guests for recommendations Thanks again Gill and Kev Property Owner

Very good pubs in the village where we was welcomed everytime. The cottage itself was spacious and very clean. I would be very surprised if this property was ever given any negative feedback. Our only regret was we didn't book an additional week. Thank you for sharing your lovely property. We will be rebooking very soon

  • "Awful. We booked from 8th to 15 December '23."

We were rationed to heating for just 5hrs a day, in the middle of winter. Through the night it was freezing. I am disabled and one of my conditions is cold intolerance; to pay for a holiday and be put through such pain from being so cold was appalling. The control for the heating was in the owner's property, so we had absolutely no control of the heating to turn it on or off. The cooker fused on the first day, so we were without cooking facilities (other than a small microwave). The fuse box was also in the owner's property. I spoke to the owner on the phone, first thing on Saturday and was told she was away and wasn't back until Tuesday; five days into our holiday. There was no one on site to help us, in the owners' absence. Also, there were two huge steps into the property, with only one hand rail on the wall, which actually came off in my hand. So dangerous! When I spoke to the owner, I was told it would be looked at on Saturday, which was useless to me as our holiday finished on Friday morning.

We are extremely sorry that you feel your stay at Hudeway View was not enjoyable. We pride ourselves on offering a high-quality service, which is reflected in our 24 five star reviews to date. It is very unusual for us to be away from the property without my daughter who lives nearby to be on hand if needed. However on this occasion, as you were aware we were called away on a family emergency and my daughter was on her honeymoon. We had left a key to gain access to the part of the property that houses the boiler and fuse board. Unfortunately, you could not gain access to this using the key , I cannot explain why this was as it was fine for me when I returned home. When it became apparent that you couldn’t open the door, I explained where extra wood was stored so you could put the log burner on for the periods the heating was off, until I returned home to amend the heating timer on Monday . Plenty of the extra wood was used upon our return which suggested that the main living space would have been sufficiently heated, for the 2 days before I was able to amend the timer. We reimbursed you for the heater I suggested you purchase from the village to heat the bedroom after the timer had turned the boiler off. I returned on Monday afternoon rather than Tuesday as you have stated. I put the heating on for 24 hours a day and fixed the fuse which had blown the oven. I suggested we fix the handle at the front door, but you explained that you were fine without it, so this was fixed when you checked out. There is only one step into the property not two as you mentioned. You then had from Monday to Friday check out with all the amenities working and the heating on 24/7 . It's a shame that once these unfortunate issues were resolved you still did not enjoy your stay. The heating at Hudeway View is not rationed to 5 hours as suggested it is set for longer, but it is off overnight , unless requested. Thank you Gill and Kev Property Owner

Plenty of walks nearby for both human and dog( we can recommend Kings walk which takes you up to Hudeshope Limekilns right on the edge of Middleton) Gill was a lovely host, who kept in the background. An outside hosepipe would probably be an advantage for muddy, winter walks, otherwise it was wonderful and peaceful.
