  • "This a nice quiet off grid location and a great base to explore Hadrians Wall."

It did say parking was available, but it’s hit and miss as the neighbours have 2 vehicles and a motorcycle and they occupy the pull in too, just past the house. I’d read from other renters that you can park 200 yards down the road, which is no hardship, but when I went to get the car on the second day, one of the locals gave me a hard time for parking where I had. Also, whilst walking to the car with the 2 dogs, I was trying to move to one side to make room, but the car did not slow down and clipped the bigger dog and brushed past the other. I don’t think “strangers” are particularly welcome.

  • "Beautiful cottage situated in a lovely and quiet area beside the River Wear."

Excellent facilities and the owner has thought of everything to give it a personal touch to your stay. Lovely comfortable beds and quality bedding, plenty of towels and amazing shower. Fully equipped kitchen with everything you need and loved the wood burner in the lounge. Just one minus, there wasn't a back garden for our dogs, but as you're surrounded by beautiful countryside it's not a big deal as there are loads of great walks to go on. Short driving distance to High Force, Stanhope and Wolsingham. Would definitely recommend. We loved it, as did our 2 pugs, Lulu and Peggy.

  • "Because there is no bath, this was not a property we would have chosen."

However, our original choice was not able to accommodate us and we were forced to look elsewhere at short notice. What a gem! This old cottage has been beautifully restored, was warm, comfortable and well equipped. Very often holiday cottages are full of ornaments and soft furnishings that are not at all to our taste. This had a few but they were not overwhelming. As vegetarians, we sometimes find that the oven/grill reeks of meat fat, a most unpleasant experience every time we turn on the cooker. Not so here, where excellent cleaning had taken place. The view is fantastic and the neighbours friendly. Altogether to be recommended.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Holme Pool."

The weather was against us, but Alexis was very helpful & made sure we knew what was happening in the area. The cottage is lovely & so comfortable. Views from the windows overlooking the river and farmers fields. Our cockapoo, Dougie, absolutely loved gazing out of the window at the sheep ❤️. A short walk either across the fields or along the road to St John’s Chapel with the local Coop & pubs. There’s a new central heating system which was having a few teething problems but Alexis dealt with it extremely quickly & we were cosy again in no time. Totally recommend!

Beautiful well equipped cottage but no TV in any bedrooms, we were there for Christmas and we have 2 children who had computers as gifts but couldn't play on them so that was the only let down for us but other than that it was a lovely stay

  • "This pretty little cottage was the perfect escape."

It was so cosy. The log burner was almost never off and the sitting room was very comfortable and welcoming. The kitchen was beautiful and well equipped. The bathroom was clearly new and the shower was great!. Large comfortable bed with quality bed linen in main bedroom and twin beds ideal if you were taking kids. Although parking directly outside was an issue, there's plenty of space a matter of 30 meters further up the track. The views are stunning and we had lovely walks. The owner Alexis was very helpful. All in all, a lovely stay despite awful weather and we felt cosy, warm and comfortable here.

Lots of lovely villages to explore nearby and streams to splash in. The house was clean and well equipped, with comfy beds. Also lovely to find a few welcome bits of food and treats for us. Thanks again for a lovely stay, we will be back.

  • "We've had a great time at 2 Holme Pool."

The property is really nice and well equipped, the owners are helpful, the neighbours are friendly and helpful and the local people are all friendly. We used the cottage as a base to visit some of the surrounding beauty spots and it was also well located for walks straight from the door. The only downside was the parking, which wasn't too bad. We parked a few hundred meters up the road where the road was quite wide as the farmers were hay bailing when we arrived and with the large trailers we decided to stay safe for the week and get the extra exercise. It wasn't a major problem though.

  • "Unfortunately the bathroom was supposed to have been refitted but work was not complete."

The owner was very helpful but I’m surprised it was completely refitted so close to a booking. Also the house is not really suitable for 4 adults due to the incredibly low ceiling in the twin room. The rubbish is a problem as you are supposed to put the large wheelie bin down 8 steep stone steps to have it emptied. Unsurprisingly this had not been done for a very long time so the rubbish bin was overflowing. This is a problem that needs solving. The parking is not really off road and with large farm vehicles constantly using the very narrow Lane, rather worrying. We learnt that the neighbour has had his vehicle damaged several times. Beautiful location but with issues that need solving

  • "Lovely place and lots of walks in the local area, with a really nice pub nearby."

However, given the current situation with the Coronavirus, we expected the cottage to be a lot cleaner then it was. We found several utensils and cooking trays with food on that clearly hadn't been cleaned, and tv remotes also needed cleaning.

  • "Just had a lovely week in this wonderful cottage."

It's in a great location overlooking the river and has all the amenities that you need for a weeks holiday. Plenty of crockery, comfy beds, a nice welcome pack, even dog treats if you have a dog. The village is really friendly, Chatterbox Cafe a must for their breakfast alone. The local pub The Golden Lion serves good homemade food. A great location to visit the area and a very friendly neighbour who can give you plenty of advice about the area. Hope to visit again soon.

  • "Not dog freindly or child freindly, front of house very high onto road, no fence and side of house, stream aprox 4 foot drop from paved area into stream, no fenceing."

Unable to shower no water presure in shower, only one of each size towels for 2 people. Kitchen plently of everything from glasses to plates, very large double sink but no drainage for washing up and very small work top. Only a front door no door at rear of house !! Great views and area, very nice people living next door.

Thank you for your comments after your stay at 2 Holme Pool. We have two young children of our own that spend many days at the cottage safely. Many of our guests are dog owners. Our property is advertised correctly and you can see the house in relation to the stream on the photographs. I am sorry about the lack of towels. We have addressed this with our cleaner and it appears to have been a one off issue on this occasion. The shower has been checked following your stay and is working fine. We do provide a draining rack that fits over the sink. Our property entrance is at the back of the cottage only as shown in the pictures. Property Owner
