“The cottage is very comfortable, well equipped and in very good order.”

It is also very convenient for local shops and pubs. But the off road parking space is very small and awkward to access, with a larger car it might be better to park on the road or in the square.

The property

Nestled amidst the countryside setting of the North Pennines AONB in the pretty village of Allendale is the holiday cottage The Forge.

This stone built semi-detached cottage property can host friends and families in pursuit of exploring this wonderful part of Northumberland.

Enter into the sitting room where the wood burning stove takes centre stage and relax after long walks on the moorland.

Enjoy preparing and dining in the spacious kitchen/diner where appliances are arranged in a contemporary setting.

Head upstairs to the bedrooms and the well-appointed bathroom with a bath and walk-in shower.

The master bedroom is a large room with a double bed and a single bed - ideal for families with young children - whilst the two remaining rooms both have twin beds.

Within a short distance of the cottage is a shop for picking up essentials, a family butcher, cafe and a selection of pubs for well-deserved relaxation after an action packed day.

After exploring the village enjoy a gentle stroll along the pretty River East Allen or sample Allendale real ale from the town’s own brewery located at Allen Mill.

The surrounding countryside setting of the North Pennines AONB is popular with both walkers and cyclists and it is easy to see why with its plethora of routes taking in moorlands, waterfalls and wildlife.

For the serious walkers and fell runners the 26 mile Allendale Challenge takes place annually.

Immerse in the history of Northumberland by visiting the UNESCO World Heritage site Hadrian’s Wall, which provides wonderful walks with breath-taking scenery of rugged landscape.

Other places to visit whilst staying here include the market town of Hexham, Killhope Mine, the city of Newcastle and the Heritage coastline.

The Forge is a superb base for that long awaited holiday in Northumberland.

About the location

ALLENDALE

Hexham 11 miles; Allenheads 8 miles; Newcastle 34 miles.

The town of Allendale was once the centre of a busy lead mining area, and many relics of the mining era remain around the area. Allendale is ideally placed for access to Carlisle and Lake District to the west, Hexham, Newcastle and Durham to the east and the Hadrian's Wall just to the north, as well as the Scottish Borders. There are lots of walks, cycling opportunities and unspoilt villages in the surrounding North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is an ideal location for exploring the surrounding countryside or travelling further north to the glorious Heritage Coastline. Allendale is home to the New Year tradition of Tar Bar'ls well worthing seeing or visit in the autumn to visit the Allen Valleys Folk Festival. Furthermore Allendale is a popular stay for cyclists carrying out the Coast to Coast.
