Knockendoch

During a hot,dry sunny week.

staying in a house with picture windows all around was not ideal ! But they made for spectacular views of Loch Kindar and Criffel. Ideal for birdwatchers too,as the resident house martins were very busy trying to persuade their fledging to leave the many nests. If you are afraid of birds do not choose this house in the Summer. There was a problem with the kettle but the owner responded immediately. The garden is large and would be brilliant for children to play in.

Great cottage to explore the area.

The house needed a deeper clean as quite a few cobwebs about the place and some TLC would help. Lack of recycling – it didn’t feel right having to thrown everything in general waste. Having said that, we found the house to be warm enough when the heating was on and the showers were great plus plenty of space for everyone. Appreciated being given option of twin or double bed so we could decide which room we slept in. The views from the windows are great and nice dog walks from the door – Criffel hill and woodlands walks plus a very large garden. Thank you for a great stay.

We had a great stay at Knockendoch.

Highlights were: games in the garage, the location for walking from the front door, the very well equipped kitchen had everything, the large and well maintained garden, plenty of parking space, and the weather!

This is our second visit to Knockendoch and again, we were delighted with the property which was clean, comfortable and in the most beautiful location.

The kitchen is better equipped than my own!! We thoroughly enjoyed every minute and would highly recommend. We are hoping to return for a third time!

We recently had a lovely relaxing stay.

The property was great and had everything that we needed. The views were fantastic and the location was good. The facilities in the property were great and the bbq hut was an extra bonus along with the coffee machine and other facilities. The garden is huge and the gaming for the kids is great. We could have stayed for longer, we had a lovely week.

Knockendoch is a very nice bungalow in a lovely setting with views over Loch Kinder and the nearby Criffel and the hills beyond.

The house is well equipped to a certain extent but the weather was atrocious and trying to dry clothes without a tumble drier was very difficult. We found signs of mould and damp and the carpets were very stained in some areas. On the whole, though, the property is clean.The steps up to property are extremely steep and there are no grab rails in the showers so I would not recommend Knockendoch to physically impaired people. Those are the negatives but there are plenty of positives. The beds are extremely comfortable, the showers are wonderful, there's plenty of very hot water. It's very quiet, private and peaceful and the gardens are very large with well established shrubs and trees. The games room was well used as the weather didn't improve!

Knockendoch provides very spacious and comfortable accommodation.

The house is overlooking Loch Kindar and sits at the foot of Criffel, which makes for stunning views from the lounge and sunroom. We really enjoyed the surrounding countryside and visiting the nearby coastal villages and towns - Kippford, Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas being our favourites. We had an excellent weeks holiday and can recommend Knockendoch. It ticks a lot of boxes!

We really enjoyed our stay at Knockendock and found it to be very clean and comfortable.

Comfortable beds and comfortable chairs to relax in at the end of the day with the most stunning view of the Loch, a beautiful kitchen full of everything you could possibly need for cooking and a huge fridge freezer. The only negative is that the washing machine didn’t work properly. We struggled to turn it on and it wasn’t possible to change the programme on it so could only wash on the one programme it came on at. However, I would definitely recommend this house to future guests and a huge bonus was the free use of the EV charger which saved any need to charge elsewhere. Communication was also excellent. Thanks for a great stay.

Well-kept house, beautiful gardens, spanking clean.

The games room was a lovely extra! And most of all, the most accommodating owner!! Suggestions to improve a really fabulous place: some more fans for the summer and a tumble dryer.

We have stayed in some lovely holiday cottages but this one was amazing - light, spacious, peaceful, very well equipped.

Wonderful views from lounge and sun room. Beautiful garden - great for sitting out or eating outside or for children to play in and lots of garden furniture available. Lovely warm conservatory at the back. Comfortable beds. Everything provided - enjoyed the coffee pods, thank you. Scenic walks from doorstep and nearby. 10/10

Knockendoch was one of the most beautiful houses we have stayed in - extremely clean and beautifully decorated with an abundance of space.

Views from main living area are just breathtaking - and the gardens just so stunning! We have had a totally relaxing stay and will book again.

This place is a perfect quite getaway we stayed for a week, unfortunately we didn't have great weather all week but with the games ranging from table tennis to darts and also the bbq hut we were not stuck for things to do.

The garden is well maintained and bigger than we thought which is great as we had a teenager with us who likes to play football. The views are amazing and only a short walk down the lane to walk up the the walk which is super handy, even with the car park being at the end of the lande the lane its self was very quite and not busy with lots of traffic. The host Steve was more than helpfull with any question and quick in response nothing seemed to much trouble even finding the information for a local market for us. We would come back and stay again the cottage was very clean and had everything you could possible need to hand for cooking and having food inside. We realy enjoyed the place a great find for our stay.

Another wonderful week at Knockendoch!

Yet again we were blessed with glorious weather, which enabled us to make full use of the beautiful garden and the barbecue hut. House was spotlessly clean and ready for our arrival. We cannot wait to return to this wee slice of Scottish heaven.

Lovely gardens. enjoyed the nice touches such as the coffee machine. It was a shame the air hockey didnt work, my children were looking forward to playing it.

A lovely property with amazing views and set in a good location allowing easy access to visit the surrounding area.

Very comfortable beds and good seating areas for the larger family/group. Fantastic enclosed garden which the dogs loved. A few issues around general maintenance but the owner was very helpful in dealing with these quickly.

Amazing views .

Clean, warm and comfortable.Weather was grim so we just couried in and enjoyed the house.The BBQ hut/artic cabin looked fabulous. Kids loved the garden and games room . Loved the generous coffee machine and coffee pods....even if non of us drink coffee!!! And the car charger being part of rent. What a brilliant idea. Would thoroughly recommend this lovely house ....just need more mugs !!!

We were absolutely delighted with the property.

The whole house was clean, warm, spacious and welcoming. The kitchen facilities were superb, everything and more! The bedding was good quality and everything was in full working order. The views, from every window, are breathtaking. With regards to some recent reviews, yes, there was evidence of some mould but in the porch, NOT in the main rooms and not a woodlouse sight!! Already booked again!

House is really comfy, and spacious, the photos don't do it justice! Very warm, didn't use the log burner as were toasty just with the heating. All beds and showers were great. Plenty of utensils and crockery to cater for the family. Only slight drawback for us was the back garden wasn't enclosed as per the listing, not a problem as we just went out with the dogs on extending leads, might be an issue for some. Didn't use the BBQ Hut, although looks fab. Very very quiet with great views wherever you looked, we arrived the day before a storm, sitting in the living room looking across the loch was lovely. You're about a 15 minute drive from Dumfries for Supermarkets etc. although I believe you can get a delivery. All in, thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely stay here again. 100% recommend

Lovely property & area but unfortunately could do with some maintenance.

There was an excessive amount of black mould in the porch & conservatory, the radiator in the utility had a bubble (will burst at somepoint) on the front & there was lots of woodlice in the property. We had also read about these in the maintenance book that was left to fill in where multiple people had mentioned it.

The cottage is huge and very well laid out, facilities are all there and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The garage is great, and the EV charger is a very welcome option! The garden is enormous, and there is plenty of room for 2 or 3 cars out front. We have already booked a return visit!

Knochendoch is a lovely comfy property with great facilities.

It has everything you need and more in the kitchen. The beds are comfy and the bbq hut is great fun. The only constructive criticism we can offer is whilst the garden is gorgeous, a lot of the shrubs need pruning, however the birds love them, even a pheasant roosted in one, one evening!!

Equipped with everything that you could possibly need. BBQ hut was a lovely addition and we used this several evenings as was the games room. Garden is beautiful and the hydrangeas were stunning. Had a fantastic holiday exploring the local area and visiting the many hidden beaches. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we cannot wait to return.

Fantastic property with fabulous views.

We had a great week here relaxing, the house is very spacious with a lovely enclosed garden for the dog. The house is very well equipped, and the table tennis in the garage was a winner for the teens. We would definitely like to return here sometime in the future

We came here to surprise a friend for his birthday.

The house and gardens are lovely, the views are stunning. The house was fully stocked with everything we needed. The bbq hut and games room made the weekend extra special.

Knockendoch is a fabulous place to stay.

The house is spacious, very comfortable and well equipped. The views take your breath away and the extensive gardens are full of wildlife. We had a very relaxing week long break and enjoyed it so much we are returning later in the year. Steve, the owner, provided excellent support before, during and after our stay. Would highly recommend (as long as it doesn’t get fully booked up as we think this will be an annual visit!).

The house is fantastic; very clean, comfortable and warm, with wonderful views. It was a very relaxing stay. We just wished it could have been longer! Great communication from the owner, Steve, from asking if we had everything we needed at the start to sorting things for us when we had a small problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Knochendoch to others and we are looking forward to returning at some point.

The property was perfect , spacious, clean and extremely well equipped.

Views were outstanding . The gardens were beautiful and so much colour. Beds & furnishings so comfortable and kitchen extremely well equipped. One of the nicest places we have stayed in!! We only had short stay but would love to go back and make use of the BBQ hut !

Fantastic house with perfect layout to enjoy amazing views.

Very spacious, extremely comfortable and quality equipped kitchen. Everything you need and many extras provided. Very dog friendly, lovely big garden and short walk along the lane takes you woods with good footpaths. Also 10 minute drive to Mabie woods. Nearby Sandyhills beach, the RSPB Mersehead and Bainloch deer sanctuary are a must for a visit and a bit further afield but also a great visit is the Devils Porridge museum. Lockharts Farm and The Ship for drinkies and eating out. All in all brilliant so thankyou!

When you arrive at Knockendoch the views and surrounding area are simply stunning.

The property and facilities have been well thought out and everything you need is there. The bonus of the bbq hut and play area in the garage is a great addition. Would highly recommend and would definitely be back.

What a wonderful place to stay,fantastic views over looking kinder loch.Its everything as advertised,if not more ! Plenty of space for everyone, very well equipped,the owners seem to have thought of everything.Comfortable beds with nice linen.Great games room in the garage for both adults and children.The BBQ hut was a great addition.Good walks from the house,lovely Sandyhills beach about 15 minutes drive but worth a visit.Bainloch deer park worth dropping in for a coffee as you can see the deers from the cafe.Last but not least The Steamboat inn 8 minutes away from the house as good food and lovely friendly staff.Hopefully we will be back.Regards Chris and all the family

We had a great stay, the house was lovely and very comfortable.

The views were amazing and the sun room was so peaceful. We loved it all, and will definitely return.

The property was beautiful and set in stunning surroundings, the views from the windows over the loch and countryside were amazing.

The addition of the binoculars were a lovely addition. On arrival there was an awful lot of dead wood lice in the property but a quick hoover round soon dispensed with them. It was lovely and warm, with plenty of seating so everyone was comfortable. The dinning room large enough and the circular table was fabulous. The kitchen was really well equipped and always lovely to have a dishwasher and washing machine. The children and dogs enjoyed the garden and the table tennis was fun. Plenty of games for the children to play inside when it rained. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable and the bathrooms lovely. We did have one small issue, the owner was there straight away on the end of the phone trying to help solve the problem which we really appreciated. The barbeque hut was also a treat. All in all we had a fabulous stay, plenty of amazing walks and I would have no hesitation in recommending the property to other large groups / families. Thank you for a fabulous stay, its a great home from home.
