  • "On arrival, settee covered in fluff, floor area near sink dirty."

Cupboard with SPARE items was empty ( apart from hair drier) so no spare toilet paper. I object to be asked to replace the spare roll for next guests surely owners responsibility to equip cottage. Despite previous guest comment about mop & bucket in wardrobe it was still there! For a 4 person cottage sad lack of coat hangers, none in mop wardrobe. No kitchen roll. Many cottages have welcome tray but here no milk, teabags, coffee etc, would have been nice gesture for those arriving after long journey.

Thanks for your feedback. I have asked the cleaner to do a deep clean and send the covers to the dry cleaners (which we do every year). The present cleaner can't carry a mop and bucked to the property so I am looking for another solution. There will be soon be more hangers to replace the missing ones. Property Owner

  • "Very comfortable and extremely well appointed - rolling pin, sieve, quality saucepans - things often not found in holiday cottages."

Lovely little garden out the back, comfortable furniture, everything worked. Couldn’t fault it.

Thanks for your feedback. I am pleased that you enjoyed the cottage. Property Owner

  • "Cottage was excellent and location ,albeit very rural, was idyllic."

and within 15 mins drive of Keswick. The cottage is equipped to a very high standard. The only thing that could improve this cottage would be an upstairs WC. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely return. Highly recommended.

  • "Well appointed property."

A couple of observations:- Cracked mug & chipped glass on arrival . Electric socket to left of hob hanging loose - needs urgent attention. The dining chairs drove us mad . Previous occupants raised this issue . You can't move them without creating a screeching din- so loud it made next door's dog bark . Even with foot thick walls . Please sort.

  • "Everything was first class apart from the grating of the chairs when they moved on the floor."

This could be easily rectified by fitting some felt or something to the bottom of the chairs. On the whole a very well appointed and comfortable cottage. One other minor detail. Whilst the kettle worked perfectly well one part of the lid had fallen into the kettle. It was like this when we arrived..

  • "This is a lovely cosy cottage in a very quiet location."

It is very well equipped with excellent facilities and quality fixtures. Within easy access to Keswick and all that the Northern Lakes has to offer. We spent a really enjoyable week here, made even better with cloud free summits and sunny afternoon walks round the beautiful Derwentwater.

  • "The cottage was so fresh and clean."

The location was perfect for us as we were doing the Coledale 10 and starting from Braithwaite which is just a few miles away. We also adored the little garden and enjoyed looking out over the fields of sheep and cows. We'd definitely book again. Thank you

The property

The front door opens directly to the welcoming open plan living and dining space, with cosy log burning stove and TV, dining table area, and handmade oak kitchen with granite worktops and quality appliances.

There is a washer/dryer within the airing cupboard in the shower room and a separate WC with basin is also on the ground floor.

The master bedroom has been cleverly created on the mezzanine above the living area, with beautiful original oak beams (tall people need to duck!) and second bedroom and family shower room are on the ground floor.

To the rear of the cottage there is a small enclosed garden with table and seating for al fresco drinks.

To the front of the cottage there are views across the valley to Skiddaw that dominates the skyline.

With a great choice of walks from the door, easy access to the high fells that dominate the northern Lakes, or just a lakeshore wander, a great choice of local pubs and places to eat in the area and the market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth both within fifteen minutes' drive there is plenty to see and do and an array of beautiful scenery waiting to be explored.

2 minutes’ walk away is the award-wining Lake Distillery?

why not pop along and sample some of the amazing range of spirits on offer and dine in the popular bistro.

Nearby you can view the Lakes Ospreys and visit Alpacaly Ever After – a fabulous and fun family experience where you can walk with rehomed alpacas and llamas.

About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
